Massey's Furniture Barn opening Ashley line store in Salmon Run Mall

Yahoo13-05-2025

May 12—WATERTOWN — For about 30 years, Massey's Furniture Barn has offered a limited selection of Ashley Furniture at its Sand Street store.
But now owner Shawn Massey is opening up a full-fledge Ashley Furniture store in the Salmon Run Mall.
"It's a big deal," he said. "It's a big investment." The Wisconsin-based national furniture chain approached Massey about opening a local store that would give North Country customers better selection of its line, he said.
Work began a couple of weeks ago on converting the former 30,000 square feet of space in the former Gander Mountain store in the mall.
He hopes to open the store in July but it may be in August instead, Massey said,
The Salmon Run store will be a "2.0," state-of-the-art, prototype outlet with a new floor design and displays. The mall store also offers a larger exterior area to sell outdoor furniture.
"It means customers won't have to drive down to Syracuse for Ashley Furniture for more selection," he said.
The store will employ 20 people.
With Ashley Furniture inventory moving to the mall store, Massey has added the La-Z Boy line at the Sand Street location, so "it's a rebranding" for Massey's Furniture Barn, he said.
The Ashley Furniture store in the mall will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
A few years ago, another franchise operator had planned on opening up a Ashley Furniture store in the mall location and began renovations but the venture never materialized.
Massey's Furniture Barn has been in business for 62 years. His father, Edward, started the business and ran the company until his death in 1998. Shawn Massey has been involved in the business since graduating high school in 1988.
For the past two years, Massey's Furniture Barn and North Country Hearth and Home have operated an outdoor furniture and pool equipment store in the old Stewart's Shops on Washington Street.

Vodafone and Three merge to become Britain's biggest mobile network

Vodafone and Three have vowed to improve Britain's patchy 5G coverage after completing their long-awaited £15bn mega-merger. The two companies said they have closed the deal to create VodafoneThree, which is now the UK's largest mobile network operator with around 27m customers. Bosses said VodafoneThree will invest £11bn over the next decade to create one of Europe's most advanced 5G networks. This includes a £1.3bn capital expenditure pledge in the first year. Margherita Della Valle, chief executive of Vodafone Group, said: 'The merger will create a new force in UK mobile, transform the country's digital infrastructure and propel the UK to the forefront of European connectivity. 'We are now eager to kick off our network build and rapidly bring customers greater coverage and superior network quality. The transaction completes the reshaping of Vodafone in Europe, and following this period of transition we are now well-positioned for growth ahead.' It comes two years after Vodafone and Three owner CK Hutchison, which is owned by the Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-Shing, first announced plans to merge their UK operations. The deal has been held up by a lengthy regulatory process amid concerns reducing the number of UK mobile network operators from four to three would push up prices for consumers. Unions and China-sceptic MPs also raised concerns about granting Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison access to critical national infrastructure and sensitive government contracts. However, the deal passed a national security review and in December the Competition and Markets Authority gave the green light to the merger. Vodafone and Three have made a number of legally-binding commitments, including the £11bn investment pledge and guarantees around some consumer tariffs. More recently, the launch has been delayed by negotiations between Vodafone and CK Hutchison over the terms of the deal. The newly-merged company will be 51pc owned by Vodafone, while Three will hold the remaining 49pc. Vodafone has an option to buy out Three's stake after three years. It will be led by Max Taylor, current chief executive of Vodafone UK, while Three's Darren Purkis has been appointed chief financial officer. Bosses said the combined company is expected to deliver cost savings of around £700m per year, unlocking more money for network investment. VodafoneThree's net debt is expected to be £6bn and the parent companies have agreed to contribute £800m of equity to support working capital requirements. Canning Fok, deputy chairman of CK Hutchison, said: 'As we have demonstrated in other European markets, scale enables the significant investment needed to deliver the world-beating mobile networks our customers expect, and the Vodafone and Three merger provides that scale. 'In addition, this transaction unlocks significant shareholder value, returning approximately £1.3bn in net cash to the group.'

Together, we'll work to help you achieve your short and long-term goals. Below are some industry-specific scenarios, illustrating how we've supported clients in addressing their unique needs: 1. Distributor scenario During a national health and economic crisis, a First Bank client needed to make larger purchases from a primary vendor to maintain inventory allotment and improve margin opportunity. We understood this business needed to have temporary debt capital in order to move forward. First Bank stepped up to support this distributor with what they needed. After the crisis, the client normalized to a new, larger level of business maintaining enhanced margins. 2. Manufacturer scenario A First Bank client manufactures and supplies to an industry with few customers, multiple needs and evolving demands. First Bank understands the struggles of high fixed asset investment, changing volume and rising costs. Wisconsin Recruiting Heats Up with Commitment from Bah

Wisconsin Recruiting Heats Up with Commitment from Bah originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After a slow start to building its 2026 recruiting class, the Wisconsin football program is starting to heat up. Using momentum during official visits, the Badgers are starting to add players to their class. Advertisement One of those players is defensive lineman Djidjou Bah, out of Germantown, Tennessee. The 6-3, 253-pound defensive lineman is considered a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports. Bah picked the Badgers over a handful of Power 4 teams, including Iowa, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, and more. He announced his commitment to Wisconsin on social media. While Bah is listed as a defensive lineman on the recruiting site, Bah's primary recruiter from the Badgers is linebackers coach Matt Mitchell. It may not mean anything, but it could also be an indicator that the Badgers are looking to use Bah as an edge rusher rather than a defensive lineman. Advertisement The Badgers already have Carmelow Reed in the class, who is also listed as a defensive lineman, but the Badgers are looking to use him as an edge rusher. Reed's commitment to the Badgers, however, may be in question after he took a visit to Ole Miss over the weekend. Bah was scheduled to take his visit before the Reed news broke. But now, Bah's commitment is looking like solid insurance for the Badgers. With the addition of Bah, the Badgers' 2026 class now stands at 10 committed players. Stay tuned, because there are likely to be more commitments in the near future. Related: Badger Commit Flirting with Rebels?
