Authorities raid home where New Orleans jail escapee appeared to shoot video pleading for help: source
Authorities have raided the residence where one of the two remaining escapees from a New Orleans jail apparently shot an Instagram video proclaiming his innocence, according to a source close to the investigation. Antoine Massey, 33, was not located during the raid, the source told Fox News. Authorities found clothes belonging to Massey at the residence, according to the Associated Press, who cited an anonymous official. Police were reportedly tipped off by Massey's relatives, who recognized the home. In a now-deleted video from an Instagram account, Massey appeared to tell viewers that he didn't break out of jail on May 16, but instead that he was let out. I couldn't afford a lawyer to prove my innocence." In the video, he also denied ever threatening Sterling Williams, 33, a jail maintenance worker employed by the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. Williams was arrested for allegedly aiding in the 10-man escape, but told police he was coerced into helping under threat of being "shanked." He said maintenance workers were only allowed near inmates if they were guarded by a deputy. So far, eight of the men have been brought back into custody. Derrick Groves, 28, a four-time killer, is the only other inmate besides Massey who has not been captured. He was being held in the jail while awaiting sentencing for an October 2024 guilty verdict in a double homicide during Mardi Gras in 2018. After he was convicted, he pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter. Massey was in jail pending a trial on charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle and a parole violation. This is the fourth time that Massey has escaped from police custody. One of the inmates still on the lam after the recent jailbreak in New Orleans has put out a plea for help directed at Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, and NBA YoungBoy. Officials did, however, say they found the clothes they think Massey was wearing in the clip. Massey was one of 10 people who escaped the New Orleans jail, fleeing through a hole that was carved out behind a toilet and then climbing over a wall. New Orleans Jail Escapee Antoine Massey Claims He Was ‘Let Out'
Law enforcement officials are investigating a social media video that appears to show Antoine Massey, one of two remaining fugitives from a historic May jailbreak at the Orleans Justice Center, disputing claims that he orchestrated the escape. The video, posted Sunday on an Instagram account and deleted Monday afternoon after news reports, showed a man identifying himself as Massey, displaying matching facial tattoos. The video has resurfaced throughout social media on numerous platforms, such as WBRZ: 'They say that I broke out. I didn't break out. I was let out,' the man said, denying allegations that he threatened a jail worker to facilitate the escape. He also claimed he fled because he faced a life sentence for crimes he did not commit. 'The reason why I left the jail is because these people were trying to give me a life sentence in both parishes for something that I did not do,' he said. Massey, 32, is one of 10 inmates who escaped the Orleans Justice Center on May 16. Eight have been recaptured, leaving Massey and Derrick Groves, 27, at large. Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair and another law enforcement source confirmed Monday that they were working to verify the video's authenticity. In the video, the man disputes the account of jail plumber Sterling Williams, who told police Massey threatened to 'shank' him. Williams is accused of shutting off water to a first-floor cell, enabling inmates to remove a toilet, crawl through a hole in the wall, and escape via a pipe chase, a loading dock, and over a fence before fleeing across an interstate. Police reports suggest Massey and others coordinated with accomplices in advance. More than a dozen people accused of aiding the escapees have been arrested. Massey, jailed in March for motor vehicle theft and domestic abuse battery involving strangulation, is also wanted in St. Tammany Parish for suspected kidnapping and rape. His criminal record, dating back to 2009, includes convictions for armed robbery, aggravated flight from an officer, felon in possession of a firearm, theft, simple criminal damage to property, and two instances of tampering with electronic monitoring equipment. The May escape marks his fifth, including two prior incidents of cutting off ankle monitors. In the video, Massey denies the domestic abuse charge, claiming it stemmed from a false report by a jealous girlfriend. He displayed paperwork he said proves she was attacked by others, not him. He also accused Louisiana authorities of corruption, alleging unfair prosecution and mistreatment in jail. Massey called on public figures, including President Donald Trump, Lil Wayne, and Meek Mill, for help. Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, who oversees the jail, urged the man in the video to surrender. 'If the individual depicted in the video is indeed Antoine Massey, we strongly urge him to come forward and turn himself in to the proper authorities,' Hutson said in a statement, per Fox 8 in New Orleans. 'Cooperating with law enforcement is in his best interest and may help avoid additional charges. It is important that justice is served appropriately and that due process is followed.' Rafael Goyeneche, CEO of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, told Fox 8 that the video could provide valuable clues to help law enforcement officers locate the fugitive. 'Those videos, and the social media sites that he posted those on, are going to contain metadata that will enable law enforcement to determine who posted them on what platform using what devices,' he said. The manhunt for Massey and Groves, now in its third week, continues. A $50,000 reward per inmate, funded by Crime Stoppers, the FBI, and ATF, is offered for information leading to their capture.

According to Baton Rouge ABC affiliate WBRZ, Massey was arrested in March on charges of domestic abuse battery and vehicle theft, and that he was also wanted for suspicion of rape and kidnapping in St. Tammany Parrish. At the time of his escape, he had not entered a plea yet. This isn't Massey's first reported escape either. According to local CBS affiliate 4WWL, Massey and five others broke out of the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center in 2007. He also escaped from Morehouse Detention Center in 2019. Orleans Justice Center maintenance worker Sterling Williams was reportedly arrested on felony charges for facilitating the May prison break. CBS affiliate KFVS12 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., reports that Williams claimed that Massey threatened to stab him if he didn't take part in helping the escape. The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office also said the inmates' jail break may have been helped by 'defective locks,' the outlet reported. Of the 10 fugitives, Massey and Derrick Groves are the final two inmates remaining at large. There's a $50,000 reward being offered for information leading to their apprehension. A fugitive who escaped jail 2 weeks ago seems to pop up on video, saying he's innocent and asking Lil Wayne and Donald Trump for help
A serial escapee who vanished from a New Orleans jail two weeks ago appeared to show up in someone's kitchen, claiming his innocence and invoking rapper Lil Wayne and President Donald Trump in a video posted to social media. Antoine Massey and nine other inmates broke out of the Orleans Justice Center on May 16 – taking advantage of bad locks, stolen bedding and a hungry jail employee to avoid capture. Eight of the escapees have been caught – mostly in New Orleans. Only Massey, 32, and convicted murderer Derrick Groves, 27, are still on the run. Massey has evaded hundreds of authorities in a multistate manhunt. But over the weekend, a man who strongly resembles the fugitive – including with three distinctive tattoos on his face – appeared in a video on Instagram. 'My name is Antoine Massey. I'm asking for help. I was one of the ones that was let out of Orleans Parish jail,' the man says in the video, shot in the kitchen of an unknown home. 'I'm asking – please – for help: YoungBoy, Meek Mills (sic) … people that have been through the system that we know is corrupt. Lil Wayne. Donald Trump.' He made a personal appeal to Lil Wayne, claiming the two share longtime family connections. 'Please help me. Lil Wayne: This is Big Antoine's son that's talking right now. I'm Little Antoine. I was in your mama wedding when she married. I was the ring boy. Lil Wayne, please help me, bro.' The man also holds a document to the camera – what he says is a stamped affidavit that proves his innocence. Massey was charged with domestic abuse involving strangulation and motor vehicle theft. But he said his ex-girlfriend, Diamond White, recanted her allegation of abuse in the affidavit. White has not responded to CNN's request for comment. She was arrested after allegedly helping Massey after his escape, Louisiana State Police said. In the video, the man says White 'thought that I was dealing with another woman. That's why she did what she did.' While some of the stamped affidavit is blurry in the footage, it includes the words 'MASSEY never physically came in contact with me.' CNN has asked the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office about the authenticity of the affidavit shown in the video. The video was posted on what appeared to be a burner Instagram account and has since been deleted. Authorities have not confirmed whether the man in the video is Massey, but 'there's a good chance it's him,' Deputy US Marshal Brian Fair said. 'If he's saying he is innocent, he can come turn himself in,' Fair told CNN on Tuesday. 'He can go through the legal process, and it will resolve itself one way or another.' Louisiana State Police, the agency leading the manhunt, declined to verify whether the man in the video is Massey. 'All video and surveillance evidence is part of the ongoing investigation and search for the escaped inmates,' state police said, and providing additional information 'may hinder investigative leads or law enforcement operations.' Identifying himself as Massey, the man in the video refuted claims he threatened to shank jail maintenance worker Sterling Williams if he didn't turn off the water in a cell to aid the escape. Williams told investigators he was instructed to turn the water off inside that cell, and one of the escapees threatened to 'shank him if he did not.' Instead of reporting the inmate, he turned the water off as directed, allowing for the successful escape, the attorney general's office said. Williams was one of the first suspects arrested in connection with the jailbreak. He faces 10 counts related to the escapees and one count of malfeasance in office for acting 'under the order of an inmate,' his arrest warrant affidavit states. His attorney has said one of the jail's deputies asked Williams to fix the toilet because it was overflowing. In the video, the man says it's ludicrous to think he could threaten to shank Williams because maintenance workers at the jail are usually accompanied by guards when around inmates to help prevent possible contraband or bribery. 'The guy who said that I threatened him with a shank – the maintenance guy – how could I threaten you with a shank, if you can't come around me?' he said. 'You cannot come (near the inmates) without a deputy right behind you. Because if they just let you (near the inmates), you could be persuaded to run drugs or anything like that.' Massey's history of escaping custody dates back to 2007. When he was 15, Massey broke out of a New Orleans juvenile detention center after being arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to A broken lock at the center allowed Massey and five other juveniles to access metal shackles, which they used to shatter a window and escape, reported. The teen remained on the run for more than two weeks before authorities found him on an interstate in east New Orleans. Two years later, Massey faced a charge of attempted simple escape in Orleans Parish, according to online court records. CNN reached out to the parish sheriff's office for more details about the charge. Then, when he was 27, Massey and another inmate broke out of a detention center in northern Louisiana in broad daylight by cutting and slipping under a chain-link fence in the exercise yard, Chief James Mardis of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office told CNN. Authorities believe the two fugitives were picked up by a vehicle with Texas tags. Massey was captured later that day in Texas. Massey has also twice cut off electronic ankle monitors, according to Matt Dennis, an employee with the company that operates the monitors, who spoke to CNN affiliate WDSU. Court records from late 2023 alleged Massey had 'tampered and/or removed the court-ordered GPS monitor.' Dennis told CNN affiliate WVUE he was 'astonished' that someone with Massey's history of escape was being held on the first floor of the New Orleans jail. 'There isn't an ounce of this man's history that doesn't say 'escape,'' he said. As for the most recent escape, authorities are searching Louisiana and beyond – 'following leads all over the place,' Fair said. Officials announced $50,000 in reward money for anyone with information leading to the arrest of either Massey or Groves. The combined $100,000 offered comes from Crimestoppers Greater New Orleans, the FBI and other agencies. CNN's Jason Morris contributed to this report.
