Georgia sheriff's deputy killed and another deputy injured during traffic stop shooting
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office confirmed the deputy's death around 6:30 p.m. and said the other deputy was taken to a hospital, WRDW-TV reported .
The suspect was identified as James Blake Montgomery, who was believed to have been in a camper near Mile Marker 194 off Belair Road, Columbia County deputies told WRDW.
Helicopters and drones were in the air as part of the effort to capture Montgomery, the deputies said.
Communication over police radio told officers to take a photo of the suspect 'in the trailer.' The focus was the Arrowood Mobile Home Community off Wrightsboro Road, WRDW reported.
Gov. Brian Kemp issued a statement on X about the shooting.
'Marty, the girls, and I are praying for the loved ones and colleagues of the Columbia County sheriffs deputy that has fallen in the line of duty, as well as his fellow law enforcement officer injured tonight while protecting his fellow Georgians,' Kemp said. 'As they remain in our hearts and prayers, we're also painfully reminded of why those who wear a badge have more than earned our enduring respect and appreciation.'

Teen accused of killing mom, stepdad in Carroll County denied bond
A teenage girl accused of shooting her mother and stepfather to death in their Carroll County home in February appeared in court on Tuesday morning for a bond hearing. Detroit anchor Hank Winchester, cleared of sexual misconduct, blasts investigation
Days after his attorneys announced he had been cleared in a criminal investigation, Detroit-based broadcast reporter Hank Winchester called the ordeal "the worst nine weeks of my life." Winchester, AGE, who serves as an anchor on NBC's WDIV-TV in Michigan, returned to his podcast "The Morning After with Kelly Stafford & Hank" to shed some light on a scandal that wracked the local news community. "I've lost both my parents. I've had testicular cancer. I've gone through a divorce," the veteran journalist said. "Nothing compares to this." The Aug. 18 podcast appearance marked his first since a local TV station reported that he was being investigated by law enforcement for sexual misconduct and that his home in Beverly Hills, California, had been searched. At a press conference on Aug. 15, Winchester's attorney, Neil Rockind, said he had been "exonerated and cleared," describing his client as "the victim of baseless and unfounded allegations." The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement that same day that the Beverly Hills Police Department had presented their findings, and "it was concluded there was no cause to file any charges against Mr. Winchester." Winchester, an Emmy-winning consumer affairs reporter who has been with WDIV since 2001, spoke candidly about what he called "an emotionally exhausting process." Despite his negative feelings about the investigation, Winchester said he had "the utmost respect" for police and prosecutors. "I will let you know that there was an allegation that was made against me by someone and police have a responsibility in these situations to investigate allegations," the anchorman said. "But they should also take the time to investigate the person making the allegation." Watch: Bear breaks into California home, eats dog food, cookies and chips
Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A bear broke into a California home to feast on snacks including dog food, cookies, a bag of chips and a container of sugar. Bridget Conley said she started getting alerts from the security cameras at her Pine Mountain Club home, located in the Los Padres National Forest in Kern County, about 6:15 a.m. Friday, when no one was home. "He was huge," Conley told KABC-TV. "This bear was the biggest bear that we have seen." Conley said the bear kicked open the door and spent about an hour going in and out of the house. "There were multiple snacks, because once he broke in, he would go in, ransack and pick something that he wanted to eat, come back outside to eat it and then go back," Conley said. The bear feasted on treats including dog food, cookies, a container of turbinado sugar and a bag of chips. "He went for the turbinado sugar, the dog food, and we think he took a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, and I think that maybe he thought it was syrup, and he threw that down. He did not like that," she said. She said not everything in the kitchen was ransacked. "He left the vodka," she said.
