Defending champion Sinner storms into Cincinnati semi-finals
Sinner delivered a dominant performance, capitalising on his opponent's 29 unforced errors to claim his first win in three meetings against the Canadian in just 71 minutes.
"Today I felt great on court. I think you saw that but every day is going to be different," Sinner said. "Tomorrow is a day off, which is good for me. We will try and put some reps in and then see what I can do in the semis."
The Italian became only the fifth man this century to record 25 consecutive victories on the surface alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.
He will face either Danish seventh seed Holger Rune or French qualifier Terence Atmane.
In the women's draw, second seed Coco Gauff secured her place in the quarter-finals with a 6-2 6-4 win over Italy's Lucia Bronzetti.
"For the most part I played aggressive. Maybe got a bit passive in some of those games. But it's tough. The balls are super light and they fly," Gauff said.
"She wasn't giving me much pace. I was trying to play with control but also aggressive. I think I did well. I missed a couple balls. But I learned from it and was able to close it out."
The two-time Grand Slam champion will next face another Italian, seventh seed Jasmine Paolini, who swept past Barbora Krejcikova 6-1 6-2 in a rematch of the 2024 Wimbledon final.

Skid snapped, Pirates pursue series victory over Cubs
August 16 - After ending their five-game losing streak on Friday, the Pittsburgh Pirates will look to claim their weekend series against the host Chicago Cubs with another win on Saturday. Jack Suwinski belted a ninth-inning solo home run that lifted Pittsburgh to a 3-2 victory in the series opener. His third home run of the season was a big hit for the struggling outfielder who entered the contest hitting .118 through 39 games and 93 at-bats. That average is not indicative of how the Chicago native, who led the Pirates with 26 homers in 2023, has played of late. Pirates manager Don Kelly called the game-winning hit "sick," not just because Suwinski, who grew up a White Sox fan, hit it against the Cubs but also because the left-handed hitter went to the opposite field in left-center. "Just so many things adding up, and a just really cool moment for him," Kelly said. "The hard work is paying off, and he's been having really good at-bats. That's just, really, really awesome." On Saturday, the Pirates will send rookie righty Mike Burrows (1-4, 4.66 ERA) to the mound and hope he can match the efforts of fellow rookie Braxton Ashcraft. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out three in five-plus innings during a 9-0 victory. The Saturday game will be the fifth between the teams this season in Chicago. Tennis courts in Rugby park reopen after £75,000 refurbishment
A set of tennis courts in Warwickshire have reopened following a near £75,000 refurbishment, Rugby Borough Council has announced. The facilities at Caldecott Park, Rugby, now boast new hard court surfaces, net posts, nets, security gates and comes after the council secured a £50,000 grant from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and its Tennis Foundation's Park Tennis Project, supported by government funding. Councillor Maggie O'Rourke said the council planned for the courts to host local tennis leagues and offer Barclays Free Park Tennis sessions. She said: "We're delighted to officially reopen Caldecott Park's tennis courts following the generous support from the LTA Tennis Foundation."Through the Park Tennis Project, the LTA plans to deliver the biggest ever investment in park tennis facilities across Britain, offering players of all ages and ability the opportunity to pick up a racquet and play."Both courts are open seven days a week and can be booked via the LTA's Lloyd, LTA chief executive, said: "We're delighted to see the tennis courts in Rugby's Caldecott Park reopen to the public - and in better shape than ever."Park tennis courts are vital for providing people with opportunities to pick up a racquet and we want as many people as possible, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, to enjoy playing tennis and being active."
