Demand grows for chilli board in Khammam

Hans India12-05-2025
Khammam: A chilli board is being pushed for in Khammam by the Telangana State Farmers' Association, Telangana Farmers' Association, farmers from affiliated associations of various parties, the CPM, the CPI, and mass line parties. In this regard, the Khammam Roundtable discussions with farmers and traders was held, the chilli market was under siege, and there was a dharna in front of the Collectorate. Moreover, beginning from the next month, planned activities for the chilli board will be undertaken by interested parties.
Following the establishment of a turmeric board by the Central government in Nizamabad, farmers are now calling for the establishment of a board in Khammam. Telangana grows between 3 lakh and 4 lakh acres of chilli annually.
This includes the districts of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Mulugu, in addition to Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Gadwal.
In the Rayalaseema districts of Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam, Nellore, and Kurnool, chillies are also farmed. In Andhra Pradesh, between 5 lakh and 6 lakh acres are used for chili farming. But as of right now, there isn't a chilli board in the entire nation.
According to local farmers, it would be advantageous for both Telugu states to establish a chilli board in Khammam district, which serves as the entry point to Telangana and Andhra. The establishment of the chili board will boost the international market for exports, provide regular training for chilli farmers, and give high-quality chilli cultivation boards the chance to take production-related action.
The board will be able to host regular awareness seminars on chilli production for farmers and offer rewards to those who grow chilli organically rather than using pesticides because it has unique money, authority, and a unique system. The Horticulture Department is currently in charge of chilli farming.
Officials are keeping an eye on the Horticulture Department's crops, just like they are on other crops. As of right present, chilli farming has no minimum support price.

Telangana CM appeals for united support to Justice Sudarshan Reddy's Vice-Presidential candidature

Hyderabad, Aug 19 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today appealed to all political parties across the Telugu states to rise above politics and support Justice Sudarshan Reddy, who has been declared as the Vice-Presidential candidate by the INDIA bloc. Addressing a press conference at his residence in Jubilee Hills, the Chief Minister said the announcement has brought immense pride to the Telugu people, particularly Telangana. 'After PV Narasimha Rao, it is a matter of honour that a Telugu son from an agricultural family is being fielded for such a high constitutional post,' he said. Reddy contrasted the INDIA alliance's decision with that of the NDA, which he accused of 'vote theft and mocking democracy.' He stressed that the INDIA alliance is fighting to uphold the Constitution with the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi. Calling Justice Sudarshan Reddy a non-political legal expert of high repute, the Chief Minister said, 'He does not belong to any political party. He is a constitutional expert and Chairman of the Independent Expert Committee. This candidature is beyond politics, and it is the responsibility of every Telugu to ensure his victory.' Revanth recalled the political maturity shown in 1991 when TDP founder N T Rama Rao extended support to P V Narasimha Rao, who contested from Nandyal. 'Today, the same wisdom is needed,' he remarked. The Chief Minister appealed to leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the Left parties, and even BJP MPs from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to support Justice Sudarshan Reddy. 'This is a historic moment to unite beyond politics and protect democracy,' he asserted. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikaramarka Mallu and other cabinet ministers were present at the press conference. UNI VV SSP

For Veep Battle, Revanth Reddy's Challenge To Andhra, Telangana Parties

New Delhi: The NDA move to pick a Tamil leader as its Vice-Presidential candidate -- in another effort to play the Tamil card -- appears to have led its southern allies into a dilemma as the Opposition INDIA bloc came up with an equally strong response. The NDA has picked CP Radhakrishnan, one of BJP's party's tallest leaders from Tamil Nadu, to wrong-foot the state's ruling DMK in the coming state elections. The choice before the DMK was tricky - go for a Tamil candidate or against him and support the INDIA Bloc pick. The shoe is now on the other foot. The INDIA bloc has attempted to turn the tables on the NDA, picking Justice Sudershan Reddy, a retired Supreme Court judge, this afternoon. His Telugu heritage is helping the Opposition bait not just NDA ally Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party, but also the state's Opposition YSR Congress and the Telangana's Opposition Telangana Rashtra Samithi. While the Opposition is hoping that Mr Naidu would alienate his Telugu voters with his refusal, the TRS stands the risk of being called the "B Team" of the BJP in case they refuse. Both TDP and YSRCP have promised to support the NDA candidate. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy laid the groundwork today with an open invitation to Mr Naidu, Jaganmohan Reddy of YSR Congress, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM -- the Hyderabad MP -- to support the Opposition candidate. "When the Congress conducted census in Telangana, Justice Sudarshan Reddy was the chairman of the independent advisory committee. With his advice, the cabinet and the assembly passed the 2 per cent reservation for the Other Backward Classes. That is now pending with the President," Mr Reddy said in a dig at the NDA. "On the other hand, the NDA stopped the 42 per cent reservation going against the constitution. Justice Sudershan Reddy is the representative of those who tried to wrong the OBCs. Justice Reddy is not OBC but he stands with the OBCs," he added in a clear message to the people. The NDA candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, belongs to the OBC community. He was picked with a keen eye on the caste equation as was Jagdeep Dhankhar, a Jat and Droupadi Murmu, who belongs to the ST community. Two former vice presidents -- Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and R Venkataraman -- were Brahmins. Going by concrete numbers, the NDA clearly has an edge. With the combined strength of both houses standing at 786, the majority mark is 394. The NDA's combined strength in the two houses is 422 -- 293 members in the Lok Sabha and 129 in the Rajya Sabha. But the Opposition is keen not just to force an election and reinforce their unity but also to pitch the contest as a larger ideological battle -- especially after their long confrontation with Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha.

BRS in a fix on Vice-President polls

The announcement of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy as the INDIA Bloc candidate for the office of Vice-President of India has apparently left the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in a fix. The party has all along been maintaining neutral stand on major issues and has refrained from supporting the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre or joined hands with the Congress, its principle opponent in the State. In the last Assembly and the Parliament elections, the BRS fought on its own. While the party has drawn a blank in the Lok Sabha elections last year, it still has four members in Rajya Sabha. Of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, Congress and BJP won eight and the AIMIM one. In the Rajya Sabha, BRS has four members and Congress three. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy invoking the 'Telugu pride' at a press conference on Tuesday evening obviously has pushed the BRS to a corner as regards its support for the Vice-Presidential candidate backed by the NDA and the INDIA Bloc. Mr. Reddy had openly urged Telugu-speaking Parliament members from the TDP, BRS, AIMIM and the YSRCP to back Justice Sudershan Reddy, though the appeal to TDP members appears far fetched as they are part and parcel of the NDA. 'Our leader has thrown a gauntlet at KCR and it is for him to take the call. When he has been speaking about 'sentiment' during the height of the Statehood agitation, the issue of backing a Telugu person should also be a sentiment for him,' a top Congress leader remarked. Sources in the BRS maintained that it is for the party president and former CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao to take a call on the elections. 'We have not received any call from either the NDA or the INDIA Bloc to support their nominees,' a top leader told The Hindu. The BRS leadership is in a spot because if it supports the INDIA Bloc candidate it has a lot to answer. In the event of backing the NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan, the party is likely to face flak for ignoring the 'Telugu bidda' sentiment. Either ways, the party is in a piquant situation on how to wriggle out the situation. There is also speculation that the party might stay away from the voting. But, this would give the INDIA Bloc leadership and more particularly the State Congress to launch a tirade against the BRS alleging strategic understanding with the BJP. The next move of the BRS chief would be keenly watched as the nomination process for the VP gets in motion.
