Namibia To Host South Africa For First-Ever T20I In Windhoek On October 11
Namibia to host South Africa for their first-ever T20I on Oct 11 at Windhoek's new FNB Cricket Ground.
Namibia will host South Africa's men's team for a historic T20 International on October 11. The match, to be played in Windhoek, will also officially inaugurate the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground (FNB NCG) — the country's newest and most advanced cricket facility.
This will be the first-ever international match between the Namibian Eagles and the South African Proteas and promises to be a celebration of sport and continental unity.
Under construction since 2021, the FNB NCG will serve as the home of the national high-performance centre and will host matches during the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men's World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup, where Namibia will co-host alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa.
By the time the historic T20I against South Africa is played in October, Namibia will also have competed in the Africa T20 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, aiming for a spot in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Notably, Namibia has featured in the last three T20 World Cups, including a famous win over Sri Lanka in 2022.
Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller described the upcoming match and stadium opening as a dream come true. 'The FNB NCG has been four years in the making, and we're thrilled to finally unveil it on such a grand stage. Playing against our neighbours, one of the world's leading cricket nations, makes the occasion even more special," he said.
Muller also extended his gratitude to Cricket South Africa (CSA) and its CEO, Pholetsi Moseki, for their support in bringing this fixture to life. Moseki responded in kind, praising Namibia's recent progress on the field and reaffirming CSA's commitment to fostering the growth of cricket across the continent.
'We're proud to be part of this historic moment," Moseki said. 'This match is more than just a game — it's a celebration of African cricket's rising strength and a preview of what's to come as we prepare to co-host the 2027 ICC Men's World Cup."

Aussie Maxwell sharpening his skills to bowl in powerplays during 2026 T20 World Cup
CAIRNS: With an eye on next year's T20 World Cup in the Indian subcontinent, charismatic Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is sharpening his spin-bowling skills to become more potent in the powerplay overs, given that he might need to bowl with the new ball on spinner-friendly pitches. The 2026 T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with the spin-bowling all-rounder, if fully fit, likely to be a part of the Australian side as it aims to reclaim the trophy it last won in 2021. Maxwell has been a regular in the Indian Premier League, donning several jerseys, with his most successful stints coming for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, where he has shone as a devastating batter with the ability to turn the game decisively with the ball. Despite his bowling prowess, Maxwell has bowled only five powerplay overs in total in the shortest format between the 2022 T20 World Cup and the ongoing home series against South Africa. But the 36-year-old feels he could come in handy in powerplay overs during the T20 World Cup as the new ball grips the subcontinent's wickets better.

Not Root Or Stokes! Rashid Picks Ex-Captain As England's Most Talented Player
Last Updated: Root holds the record for scoring the most runs for England in Tests, ODIs and international cricket. He is also England's most successful Test captain. Premier England spinner Adil Rashid ignored legendary Joe Root and England's Test captain Ben Stokes to pick a former captain of England's white-ball teams as the most talented English player. According to Rashid, who has picked up 419 wickets for England in 298 international matches played so far, wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler is England's most talented player. While speaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Rashid said, 'It's hard to say one person. Let's say (Jos) Buttler. He's probably, arguably, England's best white-ball player." Since making his international debut for the English team against India during a T20I match played in Manchester on August 31, 2011, 34-year-old Buttler has featured in 57 Tests, 190 ODIs and 137 T20Is and has scored 2907, 5274 and 3700 runs, respectively. Buttler played a big role in England's 2019 ODI World Cup title win, and under his leadership, England also won the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. Root, on the other hand, is England's leading run scorer in Test and ODI cricket. The 34-year-old right-handed batter from Yorkshire has 13,543 runs to his credit in 158 Test matches. Only Sachin Tendulkar of India has scored more runs than him in the five-day format of the game. On June 1, 2025, he scored 166 runs from just 139 balls for the Harry Brook-led side against the West Indies in Cardiff to become England's leading run getter in the 50-over format of the game, and in the process, he also became the first cricketer from England to score 7000 runs in ODIs. Stokes made his international debut against Ireland in Dublin on August 25, 2011, during an ODI match, and since then has played 115 Tests, 114 ODIs and 43 T20 Internationals. The New Zealand-born all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls medium pace has scored more than 11,080 runs in international cricket in addition to dismissing 330 batters. He has been the full-time captain of England's Test side since June 2022, and under his leadership, the Poms have won 22 out of 37 matches. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Glenn Maxwell Aiming To Fine-Tune Powerplay Bowling Skills Ahead Of T20 World Cup 2026
Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell said he is fine-tuning his bowling in the powerplay, with an aim to take up new ball bowling duties for Australia at next year's T20 World Cup, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Maxwell, 36, has bowled two overs inside the powerplay in both T20Is against South Africa in Darwin and even dismissed skipper Aiden Markram in Tuesday's game. Maxwell is no stranger to bowling in powerplay, especially after famously removing Rohit Sharma in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. "I think in the subcontinent you might be able to get a little bit more out of it as a spinner early on. Especially that new ball, the hard seam, being able to grip on those dry surfaces. So it might be something we think about heading forward. "I'm just as surprised as anyone when I get a wicket. I love getting wickets. It's very surprising anytime I get anyone out. I'm there to do a job in the powerplay and I'm trying to execute that as well as I can," Maxwell told reporters in Cairns on Thursday. Maxwell's adaptability has also been on show with the bat. After opening in the T20I series in the West Indies, Maxwell came in at number seven in the series opener against South Africa before moving to number five in the second match. "I've been a bit of the shuffler around the order, up and down. I'm filling holes at the moment. Even during the West Indies series, trying to combat Akeal Hosein (by) going up the top, this series going a little bit lower, trying to manage that back end (of the innings). "(I'm) trying to play whatever role is needed for me in this side and just try and be as adaptable as possible," he added. The deciding match of the T20I series, currently locked at 1-1, will be played in Cairns on Saturday. It will also mark the first-ever men's T20I to be played at Cazaly's Stadium, where a sell-out crowd of 10,000 is expected to come.
