Devils Forward Named Top Breakout Candidate

has been highlighting one player from each team who has the potential to break out during the 2025-26 season. They revealed their pick for the New Jersey Devils on August 17, and they went with an interesting forward. Troy Perlowitz picked forward Dawson Mercer as the Devils' top fantasy breakout candidate for the 2025-26 season. Perlowitz argued that Mercer has the potential to be a 30-goal scorer for the Devils if he ends up playing in their top-six on the wing and on their second power-play unit. With the Devils not necessarily adding a true top-six winger this off-season, it would be massive for the Metropolitan Division club if Mercer can take that next step and become an impactful scorer for them. Merver hitting a new level should not be ruled out, as he is still only 23 years old and has had past offensive success. Mercer's best season was the 2022-23 campaign, as he set career highs with 27 goals, 29 assists, and 56 points in 82 games. However, he has also struggled to produce like that since, as he recorded 20 goals and 33 points in 2023-24 and 19 goals and 36 points this past season. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see if Mercer can have a big breakout season for the Devils in 2025-26. If he ends up improving his offensive totals, it would be great for a Devils club looking to become true contenders.
