PD Act for Fake Seed Sellers: Gadwal Collector Issues Stern Warning
Gadwal: District Collector B.M. Santosh has issued a stern warning to seed dealers, holding them fully accountable for preventing the circulation of counterfeit seeds in the district. He emphasized that farmers' hard work and investment must not be wasted due to the sale of fake or substandard seeds.
The Collector was speaking on Saturday at the distribution ceremony of e-POS machines held at the IDOC meeting hall. The program was organized under the Agriculture Department, with the support of Coromandel International Limited. District Superintendent of Police Srinivas Rao also attended and addressed the gathering.
'In view of early monsoon predictions, farmers are getting ready for the Kharif season, especially for cotton cultivation. Dealers must ensure the sale of only certified and high-quality seeds approved by the government,' the Collector said. He warned that any attempt to sell fake seeds or create artificial scarcity of seeds and fertilizers would not be tolerated. Surprise inspections will be carried out, and strict legal action including invoking the PD Act will be taken against violators, he added.
He called for increased awareness among farmers to identify genuine seeds and cautioned dealers against selling seeds at inflated prices. He said 511 seed dealers were being equipped with new e-POS machines to enhance transparency in seed sales, courtesy of Coromandel International.
SP Srinivas Rao echoed these sentiments and said, 'The police will work in coordination with agriculture officials to monitor and curb the supply of fake seeds. Farmers must not fall victim to fraudulent practices.' He revealed that numerous cases were filed in previous years, but due to aggressive enforcement, such cases have now declined.
To restrict the inflow of uncertified paddy seeds from other states, six check posts have been established at district borders. He reiterated that any person found selling or distributing counterfeit seeds would face prosecution under the PD Act.
The event was attended by District Agriculture Officer Sakriya Naik, Assistant Director of Agriculture Sangeetha Lakshmi, District Cooperative Officer Srinivas, DSP Mogulayya, Mandal Agriculture Officers, Coromandel representative Govind Rao, and several dealers from across the district.

22 quintals fake cotton seeds seized; 6 arrested
Suryapet: Police in Suryapet seized approximately 22 quintals of fake cotton seeds valued at around Rs 65 lakhs. In connection with this case, six accused individuals were arrested. The CCS police, along with staff from Mothey Police Station and Atmakuru Police Station, conducted simultaneous raids in different areas during which four suspects were arrested in the Atmakuru case, and two in the Mothey case. The SP also warned that strict action, including the possible implementation of the PD Act, will be taken against those supplying fake seeds and deceiving farmers. He appreciated the CCS staff for their excellent work during the investigation. The police assured that they will continue to monitor and prevent such fake seed gangs for the benefit of farmers.

3 arrested for manufacturing fake cotton seeds
Tirumalagiri (Suryapet): In a major crackdown on agricultural fraud, three individuals involved in the production of fake cotton seeds were arrested by the District CCS and Tirumalagiri Police, in coordination with officials from the Agriculture Department. Acting on a tip-off, the authorities conducted inspections in the Tirumalagiri Police Station limits and uncovered a large quantity of counterfeit seeds. Approximately 308 kg of spurious cotton seeds, valued at around Rs 4,62,000, were seized during the operation. The investigation also led to the confiscation of equipment used in the manufacturing process, including a processing motor, several plastic drums, 15 acid cans, and containers labelled with 'Shine Star 03,' which were being used to package the fake seeds.

Spurious seeds flood market ahead of Kharif season; crackdown across state
1 2 Hyderabad: As the sowing season for the Vanakalam (Kharif) crop begins this week, fraudsters are attempting to flood the market with spurious seeds, especially cotton, despite repeated warnings from officials and police. In the last couple of days, officials launched crackdown on spurious seed racket and arrested several people. On June 1, based on a tip-off that spurious seeds were being stored at a house in Hanumal Palli village in Dhanwada mandal, the Narayanpet district police conducted a raid and seized 100kg of spurious cotton seeds. The Marikalpolice registered cases against two people, G Srinivasulu and D Venkataiah, in connection with the case. On the same day, Adilabad police arrested five persons in three separate cases for selling spurious seeds. According to Adilabad district SP Ahil Mahajan, 78 fake seed packets and 10kg of loose seeds were seized from the accused. He urged farmers to report any information regarding counterfeit seeds to the police at 8712659965.
