Townend set to keep up strike rate
Champion-jockey Paul Townend might strike on his only ride in Limerick, the Willie Mullins-trained Keep Up, in the RAYN Safety & Security Mares Maiden Hurdle.
This daughter of Storm The Stares has raced only twice, but impressed when turning over odds-on favourite and subsequent winner Jerry From Kerry on her debut at Roscommon last August, forging clear in the closing stages to triumph by five and a half lengths.
That performance earned Keep Up a crack at the listed 'Mucklemeg' at Gowran Park in October, always a competitive end-of-summer contest.
And, although she failed to make an impression, she fared better than better-fancied stable-companion Carmeletta Vega in filling fifth spot behind Aruntothequeen and Mozzies Sister (a subsequent hurdle winer and placed in Grade 1 company).
The strength of that form is reflected in the fact that Keep Up, twenty-three lengths clear of the sixth, finished just three-quarters of a length behind Paddy Twomey's Seo Linn, who has progressed to win a listed mares event in Cheltenham and. Grade 2 in Aintree.
Sure to be well-schooled for her hurdling bow, Keep Up should prove too strong for the consistent, Gordon Elliott-trained Emily Love.
Later, Kiln Time, in the familiar Bowe colours, should be noted in the Franke Dunworth Handicap Hurdle.
A winner, off 81, at Naas three runs back, he has since finished third to Wyoming Baby in Cork and, last time, filled fourth spot in a handicap chase won by Riggs in Wexford.
Back over hurdles here, with Cian Quirke again in the plate, Kiln Tim should reward each-way support.
We also have flat action in Fairyhouse where the Ger Lyons-trained Juddmonte filly Sapphire Princess will be expected to open her account, at the third attempt, in the End Of School Year Maiden.
This Kingman filly was made odds on for her debut in a seven-furlong Cork maiden but failed to cope with Dermot Weld's Bella Isabella.
Dropped back in trip, she sought compensation on the same track three weeks ago but came up short, finishing third, beaten six lengths, behind City Of Memphis and Bonus Time.
At the weekend, Bonus Tiem landed a six-furlong Curragh maiden while City Of Memphis, supplemented to the race, finished a creditable fifth to Laske Victoria in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas.
On that basis, Sapphire Princess should take plenty of beating here, with Sun Soldier the most likely threat.

"We've had some great days at York in the past, not just with him, and we love going there and his finale in the 'Finale' seems very appropriate." Knight added: "He's been a wonderful horse for us. He's given Kennet Valley, the team at home and me a lot of pleasure over the years. "We're going to go back to York where's he's probably had his career-best performances – it could potentially be his last run. "He owes us nothing and it would be nice to go there and see him run a massive race for everyone involved." Many of you will have seen one of my favourite movies, Jerry Maguire. There's a moment in the film when Jerry sees the light and creates his own 'mission statement'. It was like he had been hit by a thunderbolt. 1 Matt Chapman hopes Kieran Shoemark has a big winner at Haydock Credit: Alamy On Thursday morning I experienced exactly that feeling, a moment of OMG, when jockey bookings were revealed for today's racing. It was a thing of beauty. Like two long-lost lovers reuniting. Kieran Shoemark riding OKEECHOBEE (3.00) for owners Juddmonte in the Group 3 Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock. Even more significantly, in the very same race, Rossa Ryan has been jocked up on another Juddmonte horse, Detain, for John and Thady Gosden. Yes people, that's the Detain that only Shoemark has won a race on this season. Indeed, that's the Detain that has only ever been victorious with Shoemark on top. Some, of course, tried to make out Juddmonte got rid of Shoemark after the now infamous defeat of Field Of Gold in the 2,000 Guineas. The same Field Of Gold that didn't quicken down the dip at Newmarket like he subsequently did on a conventional track. The Rose Of Lancaster jockey bookings puts the Shoemark ditching theory to bed once and for all. Shoemark has a 33 per cent wins to rides strike-rate for Juddmonte in 2025 and a 35 per cent strike-rate in 2024, when he banged in nine victories from 26 rides. That's decent by anyone's standards. In a short space of time his big hits for the organisation included Field Of Gold (Craven and Solario), Zanzoun (Nell Gwyn), Lead Artist (Darley and Thoroughbred Stakes) and Tilsit (Summer Mile). I can't tell you how much I hope Okeechobee runs a huge one this afternoon live on ITV. Harry Charlton's six-year-old has been very hard to train and has only raced eight times. But at his peak rating of 113 he would have an each-way chance. He looked very good when landing the 2024 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown, seeing off a talented pair in Desert Hero and Israr. This season the son of Time Test has not been at his best, getting stuffed at both Kempton and Newbury when behind the re-opposing Royal Dubai. But Okeechobee is not devoid of talent and it's not impossible he can put his difficulties behind him. It's a belter of a race, though, as it also includes Haatem and Military Order. The former scored at Royal Ascot and was once third behind Notable Speech in the 2,000 Guineas and the latter was previously sent off at just 9-2 for the 2023 Derby! It's not just Shoemark who has the chance to make headlines on ITV. Billy Loughnane has been a breath of fresh since he banged in his first winner as a jockey aboard Swiss Rowe at Wolverhampton in November 2022. Now don't get me wrong here, Loughnane is not just some smiley, happy boy. He's changed a lot in the last three years, and now has a real air of confidence and cheek. So it's no real surprise that Godolphin's Charlie Appleby seems to be a fan. I could imagine Appleby and Loughnane being a perfect combination in the future. Right now, William Buick remains Appleby's star rider, and the situation won't change in the near future. The daughter of Dubawi and sister to Group 1 sprinter Space Blues looked good under Loughnane on debut, but that was a long time ago when she was suggested as a fancy for the Albany at Royal Ascot. Now she needs to show she's really promising. More importantly in some ways, Loughnane has arguably the biggest ride of his career so far tomorrow aboard Godolphin star Rebel's Romance in the Group 1 Hoppegarten Westminster 135th Grosser Preis von Berlin. The dual Breeders' Cup hero and winner of over £10million in prize money was last seen finishing third in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. On paper he should take all the beating and provide Loughnane with his first Group 1 success. This is huge, massive. Of course, there is lots to look forward to in the coming weeks with York's Ebor Festival not far away. I'll be cheering for, Okeechobee. As Jerry would say, 'Show Shoe the money'. Yeeehaaa! Field Of Gold to miss York assignment
Field Of Gold will bypass York's Juddmonte International Stakes as he continues his recovery from the setback sustained when suffering a shock defeat at Goodwood last week. John and Thady Gosden's Irish 2,000 Guineas and Royal Ascot hero was discovered to be lame after tasting defeat for just the second time this season in the Sussex Stakes and although there are encouraging signs in his recuperation, a step up to 10 furlongs on the Knavesmire has been ruled out by his team. The son of Kingman will undergo an X-ray on Wednesday which will give a clearer indication of the prognosis, with Juddmonte's European racing manager Barry Mahon saying: "The horse is doing well and was back sound, which is good. "He's got a little bit of swelling in his fetlock but John and Thady are much happier with him so the plan is to do the X-ray on Wednesday — they've just pushed it back a day, as the longer you can leave it, the clearer the picture is. "That will give us some more insight and if the X-ray is clear, we can hopefully start back into some light exercise towards the end of the week or early next week. "York though is definitely not going to happen at this stage." Having dazzled when claiming Classic honours in Ireland and scorching to St James's Palace Stakes victory at the Royal meeting, there has been plenty of conversation over whether Field Of Gold will try to repeat those heroics up in trip or continue to be the stand out performer of the year at eight furlongs. The Juddmonte star holds entries in both the Prix du Moulin (ParisLongchamp, September 7) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Ascot, October 18) at a mile later in the campaign, while he could yet test the waters up in distance in Leopardstown's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes on September 13. However, the colt's name was notably missing from the entries for the Qipco Champion Stakes over further on the same afternoon as his engagement in the QEII, with race planning currently taking a backseat until one of the season's top performers returns to full fitness. Mahon added: "It was the plan pre-Goodwood to stick at a mile for the time being and obviously there has been no chat about potential races since Goodwood, we're just going to have to let the dust settle and let him get back into exercise and then when he is fit make a plan from there. "You are getting into that time of year when there is not an abundance of opportunities and there is the Moulin, QEII or you go up to a mile and a quarter for the races at that distance. "So I wouldn't say there is a huge amount of options, but we'll just wait and see and let the horse tell us." While the Gosdens might not have Field Of Gold in the Juddmonte International, they still have a very strong contender in Ombudsman. "He won the Prince of Wales's first time in a Group 1 and showed he's up to that level. The Eclipse, again he ran a very good race, beaten by a top-class three-year-old (Delacroix) coming through," said Thady Gosden. "He's come out of that race well, had a little freshen up and (is) heading to the Juddmonte International hopefully. "He's such a genuine horse, has got the speed required and hopefully can run a good one there. "It's a career-defining race for a lot of horses. If you win the Juddmonte International it certainly means a lot — depth of the field and the quality to it. And then, of course, York's a very fair track; so often the best horse wins and it's something that everyone aspires to."
