Katy Perry's space trip was ‘crazy'
Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles
Katy Perry's brief but thrilling journey to the edge of space earlier this month has left her fellow 'American Idol' stars in awe. The pop sensation, known for hits like 'Firework', joined an all-female crew on an 11-minute flight aboard Blue Origin, the space travel company founded by Amazon's Jeff Bezos. The mission took Perry and five other women to the edge of space, a milestone that Perry called 'totally crazy.'
Katy, who shares a four-year-old daughter, Daisy, with fiancé Orlando Bloom, was joined by fellow adventurers Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. Despite her excitement, Perry kept her experience brief in conversations with friends and colleagues, describing the journey as 'just totally crazy,' without providing further details. Perry's former American Idol colleague, Luke Bryan, shared his enthusiasm about the mission, recalling his reaction when he first heard the news.
'I remember when I heard the news that she was going, I was like, 'Wow, that's crazy that you're getting to go. But now, when she got back safe, I was like, 'Oh my god, wow. Awesome,'' Luke said during an interview with E! News. The country singer, who has exchanged a few texts with Perry since the flight, revealed that they haven't had a proper conversation about the experience yet, adding, 'I'll be interested to hear her version of it.'
While Luke Bryan was captivated by the moment, he expressed his relief that Perry and the crew returned safely. Ryan Seacrest, the host of American Idol, praised Katy's bravery for participating in the space trip, admitting that he would have been too hesitant to embark on such an adventure himself. 'I'm very, very happy that she did it and got back safely. She's braver than I am,' Ryan said.
Meanwhile, Lionel Richie, who has been a judge on the show alongside Perry, made it clear he wasn't ready to take the leap into space. 'When she said she was going to space, I said, 'You go right on. I'll stay right down here,'' Lionel quipped. 'I didn't give her any advice because you know Katy. She's going to do exactly what she wants to do.'
Carrie Underwood, who replaced Perry as a judge on American Idol, echoed Lionel's sentiments, expressing that while she thought the experience was 'crazy' and 'amazing,' she was happy to stay grounded. 'I'm good on the ground,' she said with a laugh.
Perry's mission into space wasn't just a personal triumph; it also held sentimental value. She brought along a small daisy, in tribute to her daughter, which she proudly held up as she exited the capsule. This simple yet powerful gesture was a reminder of her deep connection to her family, even in the vastness of space.
As for Katy herself, the spaceflight was a bold, exhilarating experience, one she will no doubt reflect on for years to come. Her journey has left a mark not only in her own life but also in the minds of those who follow her career and personal adventures.

Miley Cyrus reveals why she felt ‘really well prepared' for fame when she was cast as Hannah Montana
Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Miley Cyrus felt 'really well prepared' for fame. The 32-year-old pop star found major success in her teenage years when she was cast in the title role of the Disney Channel sitcom 'Hannah Montana', but as the daughter of 'Achy Breaky Heart' hitmaker Billy Ray Cyrus and goddaughter of country legend Dolly Parton, she insisted that she has always had an 'understanding' of the how the business of celebrity works in a way that perhaps someone else would not. Speaking on The New York Times 'The Interview' podcast, she explained: 'I've known fame since the moment I was born, I've never known anything else so I was really well prepared in a way that really hard to train yourself to know what to expect on everything that fame can bring. 'But I already had the handbook because they did the same thing to my dad, and to Dolly and to everyone around me. Dolly is a great example of that, so I felt know what I think it is? I understand the business I'm in. I am in the music industry, I'm in the record business. 'When I sign a contract, they're buying records that they wish to sell, so I understand that I am setting myself up to become merchandise. 'I am committing to them that I not only want to bring success to myself, but to them also. So I understand the music industry.' The 'Easy Lover' songstress - who has just released her ninth studio album 'Something Beautiful' - only received her first Grammy Award in 2024 for her hit song 'Flowers' and had spent years wondering what she had to do to get that sort of recognition but, prior to her win, had decided that the 'validation' she craved came from her millions of fans around the globe instead. She said: 'There were other Disney artists who dominated in those categories. I don't know who else before that, but there was The Jonas Brothers. It was boys, so they didn't have a character to shed, but because I wore a wig and I was a pop star...I remember being broken-hearted because The Jonas Brothers got asked to perform with Stevie Wonder, and I never got an opportunity like that as a young girl.

Demi Moore recalls feeling ‘terrified' by General Hospital role
Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Demi Moore felt 'a little terrified' when she was cast in 'General Hospital'. The 62-year-old actress joined the cast of the hit soap opera in 1981, and the role proved to be a real turning point in her career. The Hollywood star told People: 'I think the first big moment that kind of gave me a little bit of encouragement of, wow, this could be possible, is when I got 'General Hospital' because it was a real job on a show that was successful for a soap opera. 'In fact, it was at a heightened state because Elizabeth Taylor had just been a guest on a soap opera.' Demi quickly became convinced that she had a long-term future in the entertainment industry. Demi - who became the world's highest-paid actress in the 90s - recalled: 'Literally, it was a month before my 19th birthday. And so it was like a real job where I was going to be paid and have an actual salary. Meaning that I didn't have to have another job. I could actually live by doing this thing that I loved and hoped I could do. So that was like the first moment to really kick it off.' Despite this, Demi still felt anxious about joining the cast of the hit TV show. Looking at a photo from a publicity shoot for 'General Hospital', Demi said: 'I got 'General Hospital' a month before my 19th birthday, so I think I'm 19 years old. Super dolled up, heavy duty made up. 'You know, I just was so excited for all of it. But if I'm looking at this photo, I think I was probably a little terrified also.'
