St. John's lands commitment from Providence F Bryce Hopkins
April 1 - Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins has committed to Big East rival St. John's, coach Rick Pitino confirmed Monday.
"We are so excited to have Bryce Hopkins part of our family," Pitino tweeted Monday. "He epitomizes everything I love in a basketball player; Passionate, Hungry, and Driven. Can't wait to work with him! Will become a great one for St John's."
The forward spent three seasons at Providence after playing his freshman year at Kentucky. However, knee injury issues have limited him to 17 total games over the past two seasons.
Hopkins tore the ACL in his left knee during a game on Jan. 3, 2024. He missed the rest of that campaign and the start of 2024-25. After returning on Dec. 3 and scoring 16, 16 and 19 points in three games, he suffered a bone bruise in the same knee.
In 50 games at Providence (all starts), he averaged 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field.
Hopkins is already the second transfer to sign with St. John's, which was a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament but bowed out against Arkansas in the Round of 32. Joson Sanon, a guard from Arizona State who averaged 11.9 ppg as a freshman, previously committed to the Red Storm.

Arkansas vs Murray State baseball highlights: Gage Wood completes no-hitter
Ultimately, Wood still made history. He threw the first College World Series no-hitter since 1960 and struck out a ridiculous 19 Racer hitters, all while living in the mid-to-high 90s for Arkansas. The gem was needed. Arkansas' potent offense was held in check by Isaac Silva, who allowed just one run and fanned seven of his own in six innings. Graham Kelham allowed two runs, resulting in a 3-0 win for Arkansas. The College World Series has seen the likes of Paul Skenes, Kumar Rocker, and Gerrit Cole. None of them managed to make lineups look as overmatched as Wood made Murray State look throughout the day. Ultimately, the result is that Arkansas lives to fight another day in the College World Series. But in the long run, Wood's performance is going to be remembered in the annals of College World Series history no matter how far Dave Van Horn's program goes this season. Arkansas will now play the loser of UCLA-LSU on June 17, as it looks for the first title in program history. USA TODAY Sports followed the game live. Catch up on Wood's historic performance below. Sam Kerr's fiancee Kristie Mewis posts revealing update after hitting a post-pregnancy milestone
US football star Kristie Mewis had fans in stitches after posting about reaching a post-pregnancy fitness milestone just weeks after welcoming her son, Jagger, with Matildas captain Sam Kerr. On Tuesday, the West Ham midfielder shared a photo to Instagram to let her fans know she was back on the football field. 'First football session back, might of been my last,' she wrote alongside a snap of her looking absolutely exhausted. The Postpartum Return to Play Guide from soccer's FIFA governing body recommends players wait at least six weeks before doing any exercise, and at least twelve weeks before any serious high-performance competition. Mewis gave birth on May 8, so the footballer is doing very well to be back kicking a ball again so soon. Meanwhile, Kerr has had a recent injury setback on her return to football, though the exact nature of the situation is still unclear. The Aussie skipper has undergone more surgery, though it's believed the new injury isn't related to her existing knee issues. It comes as a huge blow for the Aussie superstar who has not played for club or country in 16 months after she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) back in 2024 during a training camp with Chelsea. She would later undergo surgery on the ACL tear and, at the beginning of the year, was seen back training on grass with Sonia Bompastor's side. Following the official confirmation of his appointment earlier in the month, new Matildas coach Joe Montemurro stated he won't be making an official call on Kerr's future as Australia captain until she returns to play. Bompastor had also refused to be drawn on when Kerr might return, with the Blues boss stating that her injury time frame was still unclear. However, the former Lyon manager has explained that Kerr is now back training on grass, having undergone the surgical procedure while revealing that her knee injury was much better. 'Look, I think there were some complications and I've only caught up with the scenario in the last 24 hours,' he explained to Channel 10 News when pressed for an update on Kerr. 'There was a subsequent intervention, but I do believe she is now back running. 'I think it was something completely different (to the existing knee injury). I think the knee is fine. 'I think there was some other issues, but again I've only been briefed in the last 24 hours.' The Matildas have a busy few weeks coming up. They are playing friendlies against Slovenia on June 26 and 29, followed by friendlies against Panama on July 5 and 8, with the first of those clashes marking the first time Montemurro will be in charge of the national team.

Liverpool transfer collapsed after medical and it left £60m target left stunned
Jurgen Klopp pinpointed Nabil Fekir as a key target for Liverpool in 2018 and despite the Frenchman having agreed to the move, it sensationally collapsed as the midfielder told his side of the story Nabil Fekir admitted he was baffled as to why his transfer to Liverpool collapsed. The Frenchman was a key target for Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2018 and was looked at by fans as the replacement of Philippe Coutinho who had left for Barcelona earlier that year in January. With a reported fee of £58.5million having been agreed with Olympique Lyon for Fekir 's services, the attacking midfielder underwent a medical and had agreed personal terms with the Premier League giants. But in a surprising twist, his impending move to Anfield collapsed with reports suggesting that it was a knee issue during Fekir's medical that caused the transfer to break down. He had missed a majority of the 2015/16 season after rupturing his right ACL during international duty before suffering two further knee injuries during his time in France. The 31-year-old ended up staying one more season with his boyhood club before leaving the next summer to La Liga side Real Betis for a signficantly lower price of £18m. Fekir - who earned 25 France caps between 2015 and 2020 - spoke out on his failed move to the Reds in 2019 as he dispelled rumours that it was the cause of knee that ended his dreams of playing for Liverpool. "The truth, why the transfer to Liverpool did not work out, I don't even know it myself," Fekir said to French sports paper L'Équipe. "I passed my medical and after that, they decided not to sign me after all. What was said is not the truth," he insisted. "My knee is good - I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine - my knee wasn't even mentioned. But the worst thing is the idea that people could suggest that it's because of my family that the transfer didn't happen. "It's a lie. But you have to live with it. The attempt to spread this pseudo physical problem into the world of course had an influence on other clubs potentially interested as well." Following the failed move, Fekir - who joined Al Jazira last year - had cut ties with his agent Jean-Pierre Bernes who claimed that it was the midfielder's knee issues that was the problem. Fekir would have joined Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri at Liverpool who went on to win the Champions League in their first season in Merseyside. An attacking midfielder has once again become a key target for the English champions who are closing in on securing Florian Wirtz. They've agreed a deal worth £116m, including add-ons, with Bayer Leverkusen to sign the German superstar. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
