4 Missing, Thousands Evacuated as Floods Sweep Argentina
Severe flooding across parts of Argentina has left four people missing and forced the evacuation of thousands, following three days of relentless rainfall that submerged entire communities.
According to the National Emergency Agency, at least 3,700 people were evacuated from their homes in the Buenos Aires region alone. While no fatalities have been officially reported, authorities remain concerned about the ongoing risk to life and infrastructure as floodwaters continue to rise.
Local Security Minister Javier Alonso confirmed the extensive damage, noting that entire areas were inundated, with emergency teams working around the clock to assist affected families.
Heavy rains have overwhelmed drainage systems, causing roads and farmlands to disappear beneath the water.
Several school buses were caught in the flooding, according to local outlet Infobae. In a dramatic rescue, helicopters were deployed to save 37 children and four teachers who were stranded for nearly 20 hours after being surrounded by rising floodwaters.

similar scenes of emergency rescues, as helicopters and boats were dispatched to hard-hit rural areas. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable zones to evacuate early and remain alert to further rainfall warnings issued by meteorological services.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday hit out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's call for Iranians to rise up against their government over power and water shortages. Images of sick and emaciated Palestinian children have drawn international outrage. Israel has denied the allegations. It has been fighting an intense and deadly war in the Palestinian territory against the militant group Hamas since October 2023. Netanyahu has a track record of producing such videos targeting Iran. UEFA pledges new humanitarian aid for Gaza children: A Salah effect? asks British journalist - Talents Abroad
A prominent British football writer has questioned whether UEFA's announcement of new partnerships with humanitarian organisations to support children in Gaza is a response to Egyptian star Mohamed Salah's post condemning the killing of former Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza as he awaited aid. The UEFA Foundation for Children said on Tuesday it will work with Médecins du Monde, Médecins Sans Frontières and Handicap International to deliver medical care, psychosocial support, food kits and education on the dangers of explosive remnants to children affected by the war. On Sunday, Salah, the Liverpool and Egypt forward, reposted UEFA's brief condolence message on X to his 19.4 million followers, asking: 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?' The message was in tribute to Al-Obeid, known as the 'Palestinian Pele,' who, according to the Palestine Football Association (PFA), was killed last week in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza. Al-Obeid, 41, scored more than 100 goals in his career and earned 24 caps for Palestine. The PFA says 421 footballers, including 103 children, have been killed or died from starvation in Gaza since the war began, with 288 sports facilities damaged or destroyed.
