The students were provided replacement questions at the last moment, creating considerable confusion.
The examination was scheduled from 10.30 am to 1 pm across various GTU-affiliated diploma engineering institutions. Students alleged that approximately 10 minutes before the examination ended, colleges announced multiple erroneous questions and distributed revised ones. While some institutions allowed additional time to address these alterations, others maintained the original schedule.
Several institutions implemented corrections while the examination was in progress, causing additional disturbance. Students voiced their concerns to the authorities regarding the sudden modifications, claiming that they impacted their performance. They stated that such errors occurred previously during GTU examinations.
Students have demanded accountability and stricter measures to ensure such issues do not reoccur, as these mistakes were causing undue stress.

Iran executes 9 Islamic State militants, detained for 2018 attack, by hanging

Iran has executed nine militants of the Islamic State group detained after a 2018 attack, it said on Tuesday. According to an AP report, the Iranian judiciary's Mizan news agency announced the executions, saying that the death sentences had been upheld by the country's top court. It described the militants as being detained after they were in a clash in the country's western region with Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, in which three troops and several Islamic State group fighters were killed. Authorities said they had seized a cache of combat weapons, including a machine gun and 50 grenades, after surrounding the militants' hideout in the country's west. Iran carries out executions by hanging. The group, which once held vast territory across Iraq and Syria in a self-described caliphate it declared in 2014, ultimately was beaten back by US-led forces. It has been in disarray in the years since, though it has mounted major assaults. In neighboring Afghanistan, for instance, the Islamic State group is believed to have grown in strength since the fall of the Western-backed government there to the Taliban in 2021. The group previously claimed a June 2017 attack in Tehran on parliament and a mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini that killed at least 18 people and wounded more than 50. It has claimed other attacks as well in Iran, including two suicide bombings in 2024 targeting a commemoration for an Iranian general slain in a 2020 US drone strike. That assault killed at least 94 people, the AP report said. Jihadists have intensified their offensives in the Sahel region in recent weeks, carrying out bloody raids in Mali, incursions into major cities in Burkina Faso and inflicting heavy army losses in Niger. The three Sahel states' military juntas, who had pledged during the coups that brought them to power to make security a priority, are struggling to contain the advance of jihadists, who are threatening more than ever neighbouring countries on the west African coast. Several hundred soldiers have been killed in various attacks claimed by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) in Mali and Burkina Faso, and the Islamic State in the Sahel (EIS) group in Niger, an AFP report said.

Allahabad HC grants interim anticipatory bail to Lucknow University prof booked over post on Pahalgam attack

The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted interim anticipatory bail to Dr Madri Kakoti, an Assistant Professor in the Linguistics Department of Lucknow University, who was booked by the Uttar Pradesh Police for her social media post reportedly concerning the deadly terror Pahalgam attack. KaKoti approached the Allahabad High Court after a court in Lucknow rejected her anticipatory bail plea in connection with the FIR registered against her under Sections 197(1), 353 (2), 196(1) (a) 352, 302, 152 of the Bhartiya Nyay Samhita (B.N.S) and Section 69A of the I.T. Act. She apprehended her arrest for the reason that an offence invoked in the FIR by the police is cognizable and is punishable up to life imprisonment, and the police are making every endeavour to arrest the applicant in the instant case. In her anticipatory bail plea, Kakoti contended that although the offence was registered on the basis of an alleged online post, the same has not even been mentioned or reproduced in the FIR, adding that the omission raised "serious questions about the legality and fairness of the registration of the FIR". "The FIR fails to mention even a single actual quote or post, despite the allegation resting entirely on the applicant's digital expressions," said Kakoti's plea. In her tweet, Kakoti allegedly said: "Shooting someone after asking about their religion is terrorism. Lynching someone after asking about their religion, firing them from their job after asking about their religion, not giving them a house after asking about their religion, bulldozing a house after asking about their religion, etc. is also terrorism. Recognize the real terrorist." The complainant, an office bearer of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), alleged that the varsity professor, through her social media account (@ms_medusssa), made anti-national and communally inflammatory remarks following the terrorist incident in J&K's Pahalgam.

GTU forms panel to probe errors in diploma semester-2 exam

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) formed a five-member committee to probe substantial errors in the diploma semester-2 mechanical engineering examination. The problems occurred in the Applied Mathematics exam conducted on May 29, creating confusion among nearly 25,000 students from more than 120 colleges across the state. During the examination, which ran from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, corrections were issued around 1.10 pm. Many students completed and submitted their papers before the corrections were announced. Despite a 30-minute extension being granted, numerous institutions failed to receive the information in time. This situation resulted in student demonstrations and appeals for grace marks. The university formed a committee including the Dean of Diploma Faculty, two Board of Studies members, and two subject specialists. During their Thursday meeting, the committee's assessment revealed errors in multiple questions, specifically two questions worth 3 marks each and three questions worth 4 marks each. Consequently, they suggested awarding between 14 and 18 grace marks to the affected students. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 울산에서 임플란트 할때 '59만원' 혜택 받아가세요! 울산심플치과 더 알아보기 The committee also recommended punitive measures against the paper setter, who is a faculty member at a govt polytechnic. The punishment includes withholding three years' worth of exam remuneration and a two-year ban from examination responsibilities. The committee advised the university to report the incident to the education commissioner's office. This is not the first instance of examination-related chaos this year. GTU earlier faced criticism during the Mechanical Drafting paper due to late corrections. The university is now under pressure to ensure transparency and prevent such lapses in future examinations.
