'The King of Kings' follows Angel Studios' controversial 'Sound of Freedom'
Angel Studios, a Utah-based film distributor specializing in "stories that amplify light to mainstream audiences," scored a box-office hit in 2023 with the biographical drama "Sound of Freedom." The crime thriller starring Jim Caviezel generated over $250 million at the global box office.
The film, which draws upon former federal agent Tim Ballard's crusade to save children from sex trafficking, also sparked controversy for Caviezel's views on far-right conspiracy theories.
'Breaks my heart': 'Sound of Freedom' director addresses controversies
During an appearance on Steve Bannon's podcast to promote the film, Caviezel made mention of "adrenochrome," a hormone that QAnon adherents say global elites harvest from child victims as an allegedly life-extending elixir. "Sound of Freedom" does not mention QAnon in its portrayal of child trafficking.
QAnon is described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an "umbrella term for a sprawling spiderweb of right-wing internet conspiracy theories with antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ elements that falsely claim the world is run by a secret cabal of pedophiles" who worship Satan, abduct children and are plotting against President Donald Trump.

Mia Goth Teases Guillermo del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN: 'People Are Going to Love How Epic it Is" — GeekTyrant

Guillermo del Toro's long-gestating Frankenstein is finally happening, and if you've been waiting for a version that honors the emotional weight and gothic grandeur of Mary Shelley's original novel, Mia Goth says you're in for something special. Goth, who plays Elizabeth Lavenza in the film, shared some insight during a red carpet chat with Entertainment Tonight at Netflix's TUDUM 2025 event. Her comments tease a film that is dark and dramatic, but also deeply human and visually massive. 'I think people are going to love how epic it is, and the scale of it, it's such a feast. But I think they will also be incredibly moved by it and maybe surprised by how much heart went into this. It's a lifelong project for Guillermo.' Del Toro's passion for Frankenstein is strong. Back in 2007, he said that he 'would kill to make' a faithful 'Miltonian tragedy' version of Shelley's novel. He's been dreaming of it for years, and now, thanks to Netflix, it's finally coming. The cast features Jacob Elordi takes on the iconic role of the monster, a transformation that left Goth floored: she says she was 'totally amazed' and 'just in awe.' Elordi is stepping into the shoes of one of horror's most misunderstood figures, and it sounds like he's doing so with style. Meanwhile, Oscar Isaac plays Victor Frankenstein, and Christoph Waltz appears in an as-yet-unnamed but reportedly key role. While Frankenstein has been adapted countless times over the last century, from Karloff's legendary performance to more stylized or sci-fi-heavy interpretations, this version promises a return to the emotional and philosophical core of Shelley's 1818 novel. Goth's comments on the film's emphasis on heart, is what separates Del Toro's monster tales from the rest… his creatures are rarely just creatures. They're metaphors, they're misunderstood, and they're always more than they appear. Frankenstein is set to premiere on Netflix in November 2025, and I'm incredibly excited about seeing Del Toro's vision for this story.

Marvel's MOON KNIGHT Series Originally Had a Very Different Main Villain — GeekTyrant

When the Marvel series Moon Knight finally landed on Disney+, fans were introduced to Ethan Hawke's eerie and unsettling character Arthur Harrow as the show's main villain. But that wasn't the original plan. According to series creator Jeremy Slater, Harrow was more of a plan B. The original villain was none other than Raoul Bushman, a brutal mercenary and one of Moon Knight's most iconic comic book enemies. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Slater peeled back the curtain on the show's development process and revealed why Bushman was ultimately left behind. 'Ultimately, [Marvel] went in a different direction and the director put together his own team of writers. 'You know when you are coming in to play in such a big sandbox that you are . . . borrowing someone else's toys to play with for a short amount of time and, at the end of the day, they don't belong to you. You know that going in, so it wasn't a surprise at all.' Slater's early vision for Bushman wasn't just as a grounded mercenary, he had a mythological twist in mind. The idea was to give Bushman a supernatural upgrade turning him into the avatar of a different Egyptian god, one that could rival Khonshu. Slater said: 'The goal was if Marc Spector was the Avatar of Khonshu, we were going to take Bushman and make him the avatar of a different Egyptian god and let them duke it out.' It's not hard to imagine the heavy, high-stakes action that version of the show might've leaned into. But a major obstacle loomed… Black Panther. More specifically, Killmonger. 'The problem we kept running into was Black Panther had just come out and Michael B. Jordan was so damn good as Killmonger in that movie, that he casts such a big shadow…that everything we wrote wound up feeling a little derivative.' The more the writers leaned into the Bushman-versus-Marc Spector setup, the more it started echoing the T'Challa/Killmonger dynamic, two ideological rivals powered by gods, squaring off with the weight of their respective beliefs behind them. So rather than tread familiar ground, the team pivoted to Arthur Harrow, a character with a lighter comic book footprint, giving the writers more room to shape him into something original and unsettling. Instead of a brutal mercenary, we got a cult leader channeling Ammit's judgment with chilling calm. It may not have been the original plan, but the switch ultimately helped Moon Knight stand apart. Still, it's hard not to wonder what that alternate version with Bushman might've looked like.
