Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Innovative filming makes 28 Years Later ‘like no other'

Leader Live20-06-2025
The latest installment of the apocalyptic drama franchise is directed by Danny Boyle, who filmed some of the scenes on iPhones.
Taylor-Johnson told 6 Music's Nick Grimshaw: 'An iPhone can do that thing where, if someone puts it in your face, it feels very intrusive and makes you feel quite vulnerable.
'It cuts through a barrier that you don't usually have. They were being super innovative with the way they were shooting this film.
'Every day going to work was the most exciting thing, because everything just felt fresh and new.
'Danny creates this environment that allows you to be experimental and you never know if it's going to work, or if it's not going to work.
'But the end product, when you see this movie, it's got a feel that's like no other movie, because they're just inventing ways of shooting.'
Taylor-Johnson appears alongside Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes in the film, which is set 28 years after the accidental release of a highly contagious virus which caused the breakdown of society.
Taylor-Johnson said the movie, which premiered in London's Leicester Square on Wednesday night, is 'very visceral'.
But he added 'there's a beautiful family drama within it'.
'It's very grounded, it says a lot about society, ' he said.
Taylor-Johnson, who lives in Somerset with his wife Back To Black director Sam Taylor-Johnson, told Grimshaw he does not have a ticket to Glastonbury this year, but often 'at the last minute I find myself there'.
'We usually go every year and it's fantastic,' he said.
'It feels like the kick-off to summer. Our house is packed. We've had a few times where we've actually had yurts in our field and garden.
'It's a laugh to have everyone staying close by, and then we all go in.'

Comedian Marc Maron shares eye-watering amount Taylor Swift charged him to sing one of her songs

Marc Maron thrilled fans when he sang the Taylor Swift song Bigger Than the Whole Sky during his comedy show - but canny Tay Tay ensured he paid for the privilege Comedian Marc Maron has revealed he shelled out tens of thousands of dollars to include a Taylor Swift song in his stand up she. The 61-year-old comic sought permission to sing one of the chart-topping star's songs during a recent gig. ‌ Fans who have attended one Marc's stand-up concerts may have heard him sing 35-year-old Taylor's song Bigger Than the Whole Sky from her 2022 album Midnights. But being allowed to sing the song cost a pretty penny - adding to Swift's already considerable fortune. ‌ Reports have suggested she became a billionaire thanks to her monumental Eras World Tour. However, she did dig deep recently to buy back masters of her own songs which had been sold in a 2019 sale. ‌ Marc was happy to throw a casual $50,000 (£37,000) Taylor's way after he realised he wanted to sing her song while on stage. And he also revealed he was cleared to sing just one minute of the song for this amount - or else he would have to pay more. Opening up to Vulture, the comedian said: "I think it came out to $50K, around that. I did everything I could to get the joke in front of her." He went on to explain he first approached musician Jack Antonoff, who has collaborated with Taylor on a number of her albums. ‌ He said: "I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him — and he's the cowriter on that song. I said, 'I don't know what's proper or how to do this, but we're running out of money on this thing. It's probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?'" Jack then sent Marc to the right channels to negotiate a deal - where he was told to cough up $50K. He said: "It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket... If I would have gone over the minute, it would have been more money. "We couldn't even let it, like, play out the special or anything. So, I got together with a band and wrote that music as the opening and closing. Yeah, it was under a minute." ‌ But he also explained that he "had" to include the track as he felt the themes of loss were too close to his heart to ignore. He insisted: "It had to happen. The real fear is, like, she doesn't let you use it, and then what do you do? You can't do the bit on the special. That's why I was, like, [manifesting] 'I think she'll like the bit.'" ‌ Taylor is hardly shy of money herself - and it was reported in May that she bought back the masters of her first six albums for a reported $360 million (£267 million) after rival Scooter Braun bought them in 2019 for a reported $300 million (£223 million). Gushing to her fans about her purchase, the star said in a written note published on her official website: "I'm trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow. 'A flashback sequence of all the time I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell this news. All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through. 'I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that's all in the past now. I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words. 'All of the music I've ever made … now belongs… to me.'

Iconic comedian reveals jaw-dropping cost of playing Taylor Swift song at his show

Comedian Marc Maron has revealed the eye-watering sum he paid to use Taylor Swift 's music in his stage show. The 61-year-old star revealed the five-digit figure while appearing on Vulture 's Good One podcast this week. 'I think it came out to $50K, around that. I did everything I could to get the joke in front of her,' he said about spoofing the 35-year-old singer's 2022 song Bigger Than the Whole Sky. He said he initially reached out to Swift's longtime collaborator, musician Jack Antonoff. 'I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him — and he's the cowriter on that song,' Maron explained. 'I said, "I don't know what's proper or how to do this, but we're running out of money on this thing. It's probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?"' has contacted Taylor's representatives for comment regarding Maron's payment claim but have yet to hear back. Maron said that Antonoff directed him to 'go through the proper channels' to obtain a license for the song, which was featured on Swift's Midnights album. He said about the cost, 'It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket sales for the [televised version of the] special, we are able to get that song.' The fee allowed him to sing just 'a minute' of the tune, with financial consequences if he were to extend it. 'If I would have gone over the minute, it would have been more money,' he divulged. 'We couldn't even let it, like, play out the special or anything. So, I got together with a band and wrote that music as the opening and closing. Yeah, it was under a minute,' the entertainer recalled. Maron emphasized his 'history' with the song, and said he felt that he needed to play it during his standup set. 'It had to happen,' he insisted. 'The real fear is, like, she doesn't let you use it, and then what do you do? You can't do the bit on the special. That's why I was, like, [manifesting] "I think she'll like the bit."' The star noted that while Swift's team gave him the ok to use the music, he doesn't know if the Cruel Summer hitmaker has actually heard his bit. Maron has hosted the podcast WTF With Marc Maron since 2009, making him one of the original podcasters. He said about the cost, 'It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket sales for the [televised version of the] special, we are able to get that song'; pictured in 2019 In June he announced that he and producer Brendan McDonald are ending the show later this year, per Variety. 'WTF' is coming to an end, and it's our decision,' he told listeners during an episode featuring comedian John Mulaney as a guest. 'We'll have our final episode sometime in the fall.' He added candidly, 'It was not some kind of difficult decision, necessarily. Neither me nor Brendan — who are the only people in charge of this operation on every level — we both realized together that we were done.' Marc is currently promoting the animated family comedy The Bad Guys 2, in theaters August 1.

Taylor Swift's new music video so secretive that 'even crew couldn't hear song'

Pop icon Taylor Swift could be ready to release new music but is said to have kept it so under wraps that even crew weren't able to listen to it while filming the video Taylor Swift is set to release new music for her adoring fans, but it's so under wraps the star is said to have filmed a music video in secret. The private filming was reportedly so secretive that even the crew weren't able to hear the full track. ‌ The music will mark the 35-year-old star's first new music since dropping The Tortured Poets Department over a year ago. And now it's said the project was completed on the West Coast. ‌ A source claimed: "Taylor was in Los Angeles on Thursday filming a new music video." They added the secrecy of the whole thing was evident. ‌ Speaking to the Sun, they added: "It was so top secret that those working on set were not even allowed to hear the song, only the beat. "Even though she's been taking time off from touring and working a lot to spend time with Travis, there are still projects she's working on, which will no doubt please fans." ‌ And the speculation went down well with fans online going wild. Flocking to social media to let their feelings be heard, one Twitter /X user excitedly questioned: "OMGGG WE ARE GETTING THAT ALBUM BY AUGUST???????" Another added: "Excited for this! The secrecy around the beat-only shoot in LA has me hyped-Taylor's genius at building anticipation never fails!" And a third simply said the "queen of pop is back". Earlier this month, Taylor sparked engagement rumours too after fans spotted her man's phone's lock screen. Travis Kelce's device left Swifties convinced that she's engaged to the NFL star. It comes after he shared huge selection of photos on his Instagram account. ‌ One in particular catching the eye of excited fans seemingly marked a massive milestone in their relationship so far. In the image, Taylor looks to be showing off her ring finger. It left fans speculating that the loved-up couple are engaged, though neither has made any official confirmation. The image showed the duo cosying up side by side, and the lock screen image shows Taylor Swift flaunting her ring finger. ‌ Taking to social media, one user commented on the post: "Travis's lockscreen - is she pointing at her hand like she is… engaged?" Another added: "Is it an engagement photo," while other excited fans exclaimed that they "zoomed in to the lock screen" to try and see for sure. People are waiting in anticipation for the pair to declare an engagement with one source telling the Mail Online earlier this year that "everyone is just waiting for Travis to ask her (Taylor Swift's) parents for her hand in marriage, her parents will say yes." They have been together since 2023. The couple have been reasonably happy to talk about their romance in the years that followed. Taylor has also declared her love to Travis while on stage and collecting awards.
