Time of India09-07-2025
Chennai: The state-wide protest by part-time teachers from several associations, seeking permanent appointments and the grant of a promised medical insurance worth 10 lakh, entered its second day on Wednesday.
In Chennai, over 50 teachers staged a protest near Sivanandam Salai.
A team of teachers also met chief secretary N Muruganandam and school education secretary B Chandramohan, seeking the fulfilment of their demands. "Chief secretary said that our demands cannot be met at the moment as new posts must be created. Getting financial sanctions will be difficult," said S Murali of TN Special Teachers Association. "DMK's election manifesto promised our posts would be made permanent.
How many more days does this govt need to fulfil this?" he questioned.
On Tuesday, several teachers who protested were detained across the state. Cases were filed against 1,900 teachers across the state.
"In Chennai, they were detained in marriage halls and released later in the evening," said TN part-time teachers federation's Chennai secretaryK Natramizhan.

"We were appointed under the SSA in 2012. Even after a decade, we get 12,500 a month. Even this amount is not disbursed in one go. The 10 lakh medical insurance promised by minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi when we intensified our protests last year has not come through yet," said Senthil Kumaran, state coordinator of the part-time teachers federation.
Most of these demands are brushed aside on the grounds that we work only for a few hours, a teacher said.
"Many times, our HMs make us work the entire day. We are sidelined at work if we don't do that," he said.
The part-time teachers were hired in 2012 to teach eight subjects under the scheme, including music, arts, and tailoring. Today, the number of teachers has come down to just over 11,000 from 16,000 in 2012, Kumaran said. "We will intensify the protest," added Natramizhan.

Job fraud by Machilipatnam MP's staffer triggers protests in Krishna district

1 2 Vijayawada: A major job fraud involving a staffer at Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashouri's office has come to light, triggering protests and outrage across Krishna district. Over 100 unemployed youth accused Gopal Singh, who reportedly works in the MP's office, of duping them to the tune of ₹1.5 crore under the pretext of offering govt outsourcing jobs. According to the victims, Gopal Singh introduced himself as the personal assistant (PA) and close follower of MP Balashouri. He assured jobs in various departments, including medical colleges, electricity department, and Krishna University. Believing his claims, victims paid between ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh each, hoping to secure positions as computer operators and other support staff. Six months ago, Singh even distributed fake appointment letters to maintain the illusion. Most payments were collected through PhonePe, and many parents said they had to take debts in their desperation to secure jobs for their children. The scam came to light on July 31 when Singh was expected to conduct final interviews at a hotel in Vijayawada. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo However, upon arrival, victims were told no such event was scheduled. Singh's phone was switched off, and it became clear he vanished. Enraged and betrayed, the victims marched to MP Balashouri's residence in Machilipatnam on Saturday evening and staged a protest demanding justice. Police intervened to control the situation. With Singh now absconding, victims are questioning whether the MP was aware of the fraud carried out in his name. They have appealed for a thorough investigation and full recovery of their money. The incident has sent shockwaves through the district, exposing the vulnerability of desperate job seekers and the need for stronger checks on political aides. Chilakalapudi police registered a case against the accused and started an investigation. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !

Adhere to govt circular for single-site approval, says Udupi DC

Udupi: Deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK said that the govt has already issued a circular granting certain exemptions for single-site plan approvals in the public interest. The DC instructed the engineers of the rural planning department to implement this as per the rules. The DC was speaking while presiding over a meeting held to discuss the issues faced in single-site plan approvals and Form 9/11 in the district on Saturday. Due to the geographical features of coastal areas, it is often not possible to widen roads. In such cases, the govt has issued a circular allowing competent authorities to grant exemptions during design approval. Approval should be granted as per the rules, she said. There were complaints that despite the public submitting applications to the concerned departments for single site plans and Form 9/11, there are delays in obtaining them. Applications should be processed on a priority basis, he added. Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar said that the govt considers the local geographical area of the district from an administrative perspective and grants certain exemptions. Similarly, for Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Kodagu districts, several exemptions have been provided for single-site approvals, and a circular was issued previously. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo If approval is granted accordingly, more than half of the issues in the district will be resolved. Officials should act with determination and assist the public. It is wrong to interpret govt circulars according to one's wishes, he said. MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi said that there is a belief among the public that it is not possible to obtain single-site approvals for constructing their buildings in the urban planning authority. The issues found in the submitted applications should be patiently listened to and resolved to facilitate the public, he said. Zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal said that there are complaints about difficulties in obtaining single layout design approval for plots granted under 94C and other approvals provided by the govt for the poor. The circular already issued by the govt precisely indicates what can be exempted. Approval should be granted accordingly, he said. 85,000 cases to be transferred to Kolhapur's circuit bench

Kolhapur: Starting Aug 18, a new circuit bench of the Bombay high court will begin operations in Kolhapur, taking on approximately 85,000 pending cases from as many as six districts. This move aims to significantly reduce the caseload at the main Bombay high court. The approved circuit bench will serve the districts of Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The new bench will be housed in three renovated halls of the old court building on Bhausingji Road. This historic building once served as the Supreme Court for the Chhatrapati family during pre-independence times, and more recently, as the district and sessions court until its relocation to a new facility in Kasba Bawada a few years ago. According to S S Khot, president of the Kolhapur District Bar Association, the transferred cases will include a mix of recent filings and older matters, all of which will receive daily hearings. "To ensure smooth operations, around 40 staffers will be transferred from the Bombay high court to the new circuit bench," he said. The administration has suggested 40 acres of Shenda Park, located just on the outskirts of Kolhapur city, to build the court infrastructure. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Female Athletes Right Now Undo "This, however, will take four to five years," Khot said. The inauguration of the circuit bench will be held on Aug 16 at Mahasainik Darbar Hall. Khot said that chief justice of India Bhushav Gavai will preside over the function, and chief ministers of Maharashtra and Goa, chief justice of Bombay HC, and both deputy CMs will attend the function. Meanwhile, on Sunday, MLA and executive chairman of the state planning commission Rajesh Kshirsagar visited the under-renovation building at Bhausingji Road.
