Gujarat second in oilseeds production, third in spices
Gujarat remained dominant in fibre crops, primarily cotton, retaining the top spot with a production value of Rs 24,900 crore.
Gujarat's spices sector too recorded exceptional growth, with GVO increasing by 161%.
Other crops also recorded significant growth during this period. Pomegranate saw an 8.5-fold increase, with GVO rising from Rs 305 crore to Rs 2,897 crore. In oilseeds, Gujarat narrowly lost its top national position to Rajasthan, ranking second with a production value of Rs 29,100 crore compared to Rajasthan's Rs 30,600 crore in 2023-24. Gujarat's oilseeds sector grew by 31% during the review period. Soybean emerged as a standout performer among oilseeds, with its GVO rising from Rs 72 crore in 2011-12 to Rs 806 crore in 2023-24.

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the launch of the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, an umbrella programme that merges 36 existing schemes to uplift India's agriculture sector. The scheme, with an annual outlay of Rs 24,000 crore, will run for six years and focus on 100 deprived districts across the country, with a minimum of one district selected from each state and Union Territory. Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the new initiative is designed to enhance post-harvest storage, improve irrigation infrastructure, raise agricultural productivity, and expand credit facilities for farmers. Nearly 1.7 crore farmers are expected to benefit from the scheme, he added. Officials said the Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana draws inspiration from NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme, but is unique in being the first initiative focused exclusively on agriculture and allied sectors. 'The scheme aims to enhance agricultural productivity, increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities, and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit,' Vaishnaw said.

Moreover, due to efforts to promote diversity and equality, not a single complaint of discrimination was reported in the past year. FASTag Impact Visible Nationwide According to the report, FASTag coverage in the country has now reached 98.5%. This has had a direct impact at toll plazas — long queues have reduced, vehicles pass through without stopping, resulting in fuel savings and reduced pollution. NHAI also stated that it now prioritizes sustainable policies like greenery, solar energy, and waste management in its construction activities. The aim is to ensure rapid development while minimizing environmental impact.

Gujarat high court grants bail to director, marketing execs of Khyati Hospital
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Tuesday granted bail to three accused persons – one director and two marketing executives of Khyati Hospital – in connection with the deaths of two PMJAY beneficiaries after they underwent angioplasty procedures at the hospital last year. The hospital has been accused of conducting the procedures wrongfully to avail benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) scheme last year. Justice M R Mengdey granted conditional bail to hospital director Chirag Rajput, marketing executive Pankil Patel, and marketing manager Pratik Bhatt, on each of them furnishing a personal bail bond of Rs 10,000 and surety of an equal amount. They approached the court for bail through advocate Ajj Murjani.
