New Astronomer CEO describes 'unusual and surreal' Coldplay 'kiss cam' scandal

NBC News21-07-2025
The new interim CEO of Astronomer issued a statement Monday on the viral moment at a Coldplay concert that thrust the data company into the spotlight.
Pete DeJoy stepped into the role after the former CEO, Andy Byron, resigned on Saturday following the circulation of a clip of him and a woman in an embrace at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts on Wednesday.
Coldplay's "kiss cam" was displaying couples in attendance on the screens when it panned to a man, later identified as Byron, and a woman, who turned around to hide her face, while Byron quickly ducked out of the frame.
The moment went viral, with users claiming that he is a married man. However, NBC News has not independently confirmed this or identified the woman.
In his statement, DeJoy said that the incident received "a level of media attention that few companies — let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world — ever encounter."
"The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name," he wrote on LinkedIn.
DeJoy continued that Astronomer, a New York-based company with under 500 employees, has "never shied away from challenges," including navigating financial issues and the global Covid-19 pandemic.
"And yet, we're still here," he wrote. "We're here because Astronomer is built by people who live to solve hard problems, stay late to fix what's broken, and care deeply about doing things the right way. We're here because our customers trust us with their most ambitious data & AI projects. And, most importantly, we're here because the mission is bigger than any one moment."

Girl weeps for Blackstone exec mom Wesley LePatner murdered by NYC shooter before she and brother comfort widower father

The family of Wesley LePatner, who was murdered during the Midtown Manhattan Shooting, broke down in tears at her funeral on Wednesday. The 43-year-old senior managing director at investment giant Blackstone was gunned down by Shane Tamura, 27, at 345 Park Avenue Monday evening. On Wednesday, LePatner's husband Evan and her two children, Emerson and Jonathan, gathered in the city's Central Synagogue alongside former colleagues and family to remember her. As one of her friends spoke at length about LePatner and her life, the two children immediately rested their heads on their father's shoulders to comfort him in a sweet touching moment. The family could be seen sitting in the front row of the synagogue in front of LePatner's coffin as several speakers spoke about her. One coworker, who spoke at length about their time at the company, said: 'Wesley I miss you so much, rest in power sister.' Another added: 'A part of Wesley is now inside everyone she touched, as a source of inspiration to live life like Wesley, elevating the people around us. 'I can only begin to imagine how many times I will ask myself, "what would Wesley do?", may we all carry forward in her spirit.' Three others - NYPD officer Didarul Islam, security guard Aland Etienne and Rudin firm employee Julia Hyman - were also killed when Tamura opened fire in the lobby. Tamura also shot dead a second unnamed security guard who tried to take cover behind a security desk. LePatner, a trustee at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was a rising star in her industry. She oversaw businesses with more than $140 billion in assets for Blackstone, where she had worked since 2014. She grew up in New York City with prominent attorney parents and previously worked at Goldman Sachs, after graduating from Yale University. LePatner was killed in the lobby as she tried to hide behind a pillar, according to the Wall Street Journal which reported that other Blackstone employees are in the hospital receiving treatment. 'Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be sorely missed,' the company said in a statement. 'She was brilliant, passionate, warm, generous, and deeply respected within our firm and beyond. 'She embodied the best of Blackstone. Our prayers are with her husband, children and family. 'We are also saddened by the loss of the other innocent victims as well, including brave security personnel and N.Y.P.D.' Tamura, who'd driven to New York City from Las Vegas with a rifle, killed himself shortly after shooting Hyman. The former high school football star had claimed playing the game had given him a brain condition called CTE and had planned an unhinged revenge attack on the NFL. Tamura was found with a letter on his body indicating he had grievances with the NFL and its handling of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), degenerative brain disease linked to several retired football players.

The Light System Announces Launch of Revolutionary Energy‑Based Wellness Technology

NEW YORK, NY, July 31, 2025 (EZ Newswire) -- The Light System, opens new tab (TLS), a U.S.-based bioenergetic wellness technology company, has officially launched its international awareness initiative, introducing a proprietary system designed to support the body's natural energetic alignment. Developed over three decades of research, TLS offers a non-invasive, frequency-based approach that may support mental, emotional, and physical well-being by generating a highly coherent scalar field using a multi-sensory fusion of light, color, sound, and motion. At the core of The Light System is what the company refers to as 'photonic collision'—a method by which two opposing screens emit programmed light waves that intersect in the center of the system. This intersection creates a visually immersive field that combines sacred geometric patterns, flowing motion, color therapy, and affirmations. The goal, according to TLS, is to produce a powerful energetic environment that may help balance the body's biofield and promote a state of internal coherence. While The Light System makes no medical claims or guarantees, many users report experiencing a greater sense of peace, improved sleep, emotional balance, stress relief, and even enhanced mental clarity after using the system. According to the company, the platform is designed to be fully passive—users simply sit or recline within the system's immersive space, allowing the technology to work on an energetic level. 'We've heard from individuals who say they walk away from a TLS session feeling recharged, focused, and more connected,' said Jarrod, chief operating officer of The Light System. 'Our goal is to offer a supportive space for people to explore wellness through energy and frequency.' The Light System technology comes in several scalable formats. From the compact, four-unit 'Pyramid' model designed for smaller rooms to larger-scale environments like 'The Journey,' 'The Dream,' and 'The Awakening,' each system offers up to sixteen pre-programmed energetic sessions. These include frequencies associated with intentions like calmness, rejuvenation, balance, and clarity—each rooted in sound, light, motion, and geometric harmony. Sessions are currently available at select partner locations, with systems available for purchase through the company's website, opens new tab. TLS emphasizes that the experience is not intended as a treatment for any condition, but rather as a complementary practice for those looking to explore new dimensions of personal wellness. This launch represents the beginning of a broader mission to bring energy-based wellness tools into the mainstream—grounded in responsible messaging and respectful of individual experience. About The Light System The Light System (TLS) is a U.S.-based wellness technology company specializing in energy-based systems that may support the body's natural healing. Rooted in over 30 years of research, TLS combines photonic light collision, sacred geometry, light frequencies, and scalar fields to create immersive environments aimed at promoting clarity, calm, and energetic balance. While not a medical device, TLS is designed as a complementary tool for those exploring the energetic dimensions of well-being. John Swinney issues 'freedom of speech' warning at Festival

Mr Swinney was speaking at the Edinburgh International Festival's headquarters days after Jewish performers claimed their Fringe shows had been cancelled by venues who cited safety concerns raised by staff. Read more: The First Minister, who praised the 'glorious diversity' of Scotland in his speech at The Hub venue, stressed the importance of performers having the ability to 'challenge us, to ask us tough questions, and to force us to look at things from different perspectives.' He added: 'Culture that helps us to understand ourselves, to understand each other and to understand the world around about us.' Mr Swinney, who said he wanted to ensure Scotland was a country of 'robust debate and inquiry,' later launched a new defence of Edinburgh-based investment firm Baillie Gifford, one of the key corporate backers of both the EIF and the Fringe. Pro-Palestine campaigners have called for the both events to sever their links with the firm, which is said to have more than £60m worth of investments in a defence giant which has worked with state-owned arms companies in Israel. In his speech, Mr Swinney admitted global conflict was 'redrawing the world order', and said years of economic stagnation and austerity in the UK had left people disillusioned and alienated, and expression concern at how new technology had left people 'much more exposed to disinformation and harmful material.' He added: 'I want to ensure that Scotland's culture sector continues to bring people together for many generations to come. 'I know that, just like the government, this sector has faced significant and prolonged financial pressures. 'You've been squeezed by rising costs, by new restrictions on the freedom of movement in Europe, by job losses during the pandemic and too many other challenges to mention. I know also that freedom of expression is under greater and greater attack, both at home and around the world. 'I want to ensure that Scotland – the birthplace of the enlightenment – remains a country of robust debate and inquiry. 'I firmly believe that art and culture must be able to challenge us, to ask us tough questions, and to force us to look at things from different perspectives. 'And yes, it must at times be allowed to shock and to offend us. It can also heal us. So let me be absolutely clear – as First Minister I will always protect freedom of speech in our country. 'It is not the First Minister's job to tell you what to create – nor would I ever seek to do so.' Mr Swinney was later asked about controversy over the cancellation of Fringe shows by Jewish performers Rachel Creeger and Philip Simon, and the renewed calls for Baillie Gifford to be dropped by festivals. He said: "What I make a pitch for is an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for other people's opinions. If we all have respect for each other's opinions then we will be able to enable everyone to express their opinions. "I believe in freedom of speech and that we should be tolerant of others. "I feel our society is healthier where we have an expression of views respectively and courteously, so all of us are able to do so on all subjects, but particularly on the issues of the greatest sensitivity. "I want there to be freedom of expression and I want people to be able to air their views. "Some of the ability to do that and the creation of opportunities to do so comes through the sponsorship that is offered by organisations like Baillie Gifford. "My view hasn't changed from what I said before. I think Baillie Gifford has an important contribution to make as one organisation to the offer of philanthropic support for the arts."
