Olivia Dean Brings Seventies Glam and Modern Romance to ‘Fallon' With ‘Nice to Each Other'

Olivia Dean delivered her debut performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with the persuasive, no-strings-attached single 'Nice to Each Other.'
Accompanied by her band and a breezy wind machine, the British musician brought Seventies glam to the stage with modern romance. 'Meet me on the mountaintop/I'll be in the shallow end/And wait for you to call it off/'Cause I don't want a boyfriend,' Dean sings. 'But we could be nice to each other/Nice to each other/Wrong for each other/Right for each other.'

'Nice to Each Other' will appear on The Art of Loving, the forthcoming second studio album from Dean, set for release on Sept. 26. ''Nice To Each Other' is a song about the push and pull of exploring your independence in dating,' the singer shared in a statement earlier this year 'It's about enjoying someone in the present and allowing it to be both light and meaningful. I think this song and video represents a playfulness in me that I'm excited for people to see.'
The Art of Loving follows Dean's debut album Messy, shared in 2023 featuring her breakthrough singles 'Dive' and 'The Hardest Part.' Last week, another preview of the record arrived with 'Lady Lady,' a grooving single about surrendering to change. 'Lady Lady is a song about the universe, mother nature and accepting and trusting in the plan that she has for you,' Dean shared. 'It's about the feeling of having to change just as you're getting used to a version of yourself. This song reminds me of the power we hold as women, I think it feels like peace.'
In October, Dean will join Sabrina Carpenter for nine shows on the Short n' Sweet tour making stops at arenas across North America. The musician is currently making a trek across the states on a headlining run of her own, which included a performance in Brooklyn last night and continues on Saturday, July 19 in Boston.

From Matcha To Earl Grey, These Are The 11 Cosiest Tea Perfumes To Try

Is it just us or is it feeling just a little chillier these days? Autumn is on the horizon, and while there's always room for a fun fruity fragrance and salty scents, tea perfumes are an excellent transitional spritz as they have the magical quality of bringing comfort and warmth on cold days while cutting through hot weather thanks to their cooling facets. Fragrance expert and co-founder Nick Gilbert of British perfume label Eau de Boujee and the fragrance company Olfiction, agrees. 'I'd suggest tea fragrances to anyone who wants a fragrance that is soft and elegant that doesn't impose on others,' he tells ELLE. 'Fragrances that are centred around tea are especially wonderful to wear if you are travelling somewhere warm, as they cut through the humidity and heat and provide a fresh sensation.' Tea-forward fragrances can include a variety of tea notes, from earthy matcha to bergamot-laced Earl Grey and smokey, freshly-brewed black tea. 'There are real tea extracts available to perfumers, such as de-colourised tea essential oil and black tea CO2 extract plus certain botanical materials like yerba mate and rooibos have tea-like characteristics and are also available as natural extracts,' says perfumer Pia Long, who co-founded Eau de Boujee and Olfiction with Gilbert. 'Some fragrance houses offer tea "bases", mini formulas created to evoke or replicate a type of smell,' adds Long. According to her, perfumery is essentially an act of creating something new out of something existing. 'Perfumers can look up the chemistry of different tea varieties, or take the road of total fantasy and construct their own accords,' she says, name checking Jean Claude Ellena's Eau Parfumée Thé Blanc for Bulgari as a seminal tea scent. Similar to vanilla fragrances and oud scents, tea notes can go in different directions, it can feel airy and fresh when paired with softer florals and musks, citrusy bright or add balance to creamier compositions. Santal 33 and Another 13 maybe the fan favourites, but don't sleep on Thé Matcha 26. Instead of leaning into the bitterness of matcha, this fragrance opens with the same kind of uplifting energy one gets from that first hit of matcha latte. It captures the bright green hue of high quality matcha powder and as the day goes, it turns into a softer, plusher scent of figs balanced with dry cedar. A mood-lifting, refreshing splash of fragrance in done in the most elegant way possible. Thé Vert feels like a tall drink of citrus-infused iced green tea on a hot day. It's sparkling and zesty without any sharp tartness, with a clean, breezy feel to it. Fragrance expert Nick Gilbert is a fan. 'It's soft and fuzzy, steamy and bright, and smells like more perfectly like green tea than real green tea does,' he shares. Picture this: you're lying supine on a plush chair in a dimly-lit lounge area of an upscale spa, cucumber slices on your eyes, string quartet playing softly through the speakers and you're shielded behind a sheer curtain sipping tea after a massage. This is the kind of tranquility Earl Grey & Cucumber offers. It opens with a bright waft of smokey bergamot from the Earl Grey with a splash of creamy milk, balanced with green, dewy cucumbers. It's light, fresh and is understated enough for the office. It is a cologne, so the longevity is shorter. Spritz generously, or carry a smaller 30ml version with you. Escentric Molecules make straightforward fragrances that sit close on the skin; the kind of quiet luxury scent that makes others ask 'what's that nice smell'? The M+ Black Tea version features a gentle waft of smokiness on a clean, woody base (a bit like burying your nose in pristine white paper). It's simple, elegant, and one of the more realistic black tea scents out there. 'I wanted to reference the Mad Hatter's tea party,' says perfumer Pia Long of this pleasantly bright fragrance that's vibrating with tart rhubarb and jammy roses. 'I used black tea CO2 extract for its recognisable tannin character with honeyed tonalities,' she shares. If your cuppa of choice is usually a fruity blend (or if you're still in the mood for sunny, upbeat fragrances), this will do the trick. Jasmine fragrances have a reputation for being heady and opulent, but under the discerning nose of perfumer Alexandra Monet, delicate white petals take on a more ethereal appeal. A Floral Verse is soft, musky and refined; a captivating spritz that whispers rather than shouts. Matcha purists will know that true ceremonial-grade matcha has an earthy bitterness to it; an acquired taste that is irresistible once you understand it. Matcha Meditation is a respectful ode to the sacred tea ceremony, a cooling, earthy composition that opens with a hint of bitter green leaves before settling to a cosy, creamy waft thanks to the addition of white chocolate. This enigmatic composition combines smokey black tea with swirls of sweet and spicy incense. It's opulent and long-lasting, perfect for cool winter evenings and parties that last well past midnight. It might not be books-by-the-fireside season just yet, but Jil Sander captures that warm, cosy feeling perfectly. This is the scent of freshly-brewed tea with a sprinkle of cinnamon, enjoyed in a cocooning cabin by the forest. Most tea-forward scents tend to feel airy and fresh, thus offering shorter longevity compared to an amber or oud perfume. This one by the Merchant of Venice, however, promises to linger for hours on end. It's a perfect balance between warm spices, shimmering citrus and gentle florals; a reassuring, mood-brightening blend that manages cool down the senses in hot weather while offering a cosy embrace in colder months. If a clean, minimalist tea scent isn't for you, Virere's bohemian, free-spirited vibe might just be the one. There's plenty of heat here, which captures the feeling of basking in sunshine, surrounded by ripened figs and woody trees. National dance champion student aims to be surgeon after passing GCSEs

An Oxford school student who is also a national dance champion is aiming to become a surgeon after passing his GCSEs with flying colours. Thursday (August 21) marked GCSE results day across the country, with teenagers across the UK heading into their schools to find out their grades. This was the case at Oxford Spires Academy on Glanville Road, where pupils tore open their envelopes to find out what was next for them. Among them were best friends Ashwini Jesuthasan and Lamari Sackey-Nash, who passed with several 9s and 8s. READ MORE: Speaking about their next steps, Ashwini said: "I plan on staying here to do Maths, Chemistry, Business and Drama at A-level." Lamari said: "For A-levels, I'm going to do English Literature, Chemistry and Biology next year. "Hopefully, after many years, I'll become a cardiothoracic surgeon." Lamari does not just have a bright future in the operating theatre but also on the dancefloor, having been named a national dance champion this year. "I dance with KC's School of Dance here in Oxford, and then last year, I won the under-16 Great British Street Dance Championship." READ MORE: The pair of best friends celebrated brilliant GCSE results on Thursday. (Image: Newsquest) The 16-year-old's moves saw him perform at the school's prom and even win a hotly contested dance-off on the night. "So during prom we had to vote for different awards, and I got voted dancer, tied with another student," explained Lamari. "I am a British champion, so I had to pull out the moves. Luckily, I won, which was a nice end to the GCSEs season." Despite the two being quite different, Lamari aims to keep up dancing alongside being a surgeon in the future. "I will have dancing as one of my great hobbies, but in my heart, I know I want to be a surgeon," he said. READ MORE: Oxford Spires Academy headteacher, Louise Cowley. (Image: Newsquest) "That will always be first, but dance will be a close second. Professional dancer at night, surgeon by day!" Lamari's dedication to his studies, dance moves and surgical aspirations has impressed Oxford Spires Academy headteacher Louise Cowley. She said: "Lamari is someone very special, and he inspires others, which is one of the reasons we love him so much. "He works hard, and after school, you'd find him in a classroom with other students, and they'd be teaching each other up on the whiteboard. "Just committing so much time and energy to making sure that they did really well and just bringing together the community that was Year 11. READ MORE: Oxford Spires Academy on Glanville Road. (Image: Newsquest) "At prom, it was just incredible dancing and a really special moment where the whole cohort came together and celebrated everyone's individuality. "I have absolutely no doubt that he will be one of the top surgeons in the country because he is so dedicated, driven and cares about people. "To think that he is going to go off and do a profession which saves lives is absolutely right for him. "With the moves that we saw, the poise and the quality of it, probably has some related links to the precision and timings that you do need for surgery as well, so I have no doubt he will be the first dancing surgeon. "His attitude has been infectious on the year group, and we are really proud of everybody, but Lamari did really well."
