Boy, 6, dies after stepdad allegedly allows girl, 10, to move his pickup - and she crashes it into their house
A six-year-old boy was killed when his stepdad allegedly allowed a 10-year-old to move his pickup in the driveway.
The girl was given the keys to the Nissan Titan but crashed it into their house, destroying the porch and killing little Kash Riley Yeater.
The tragedy unfolded early on Sunday in Lufkin, Texas, as Clinton Earl Johnson Jr, 31, was grilling a midnight feast of chicken.
According to police statements, the 10-year-old girl had complained that the truck was in the way as she tried to ride her tricycle.
Johnson told the girl to 'scoot it up' and gave her the keys, according to the statement that Paiton Rose, Kash's mother, made to police.
Johnson told police the girl had previously driven the truck several times on backroads.
But Rose, 27, said the girl 'got confused and got on the gas, causing the accident' when she plowed through the porch, sending chairs and debris flying.
Kash was sitting on the porch playing with Rose's phone, unaware of the 2.9 tons of metal accelerating towards him until it was too late.
Angelina County Sheriff's deputies arrived about 1am to find Kash lying on his back in front of the Titan on what remained of the porch.
He was taken to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The identity of the girl is unconfirmed, but a family friend wrote online: 'He didn't want that to happen neither did that baby's momma nor that baby's sister.'
Johnson has an 11-year-old daughter from a previous relationship who frequently visits the family and whom they refer to as Kash's sister.
Deputies saw the barbecue, still with chicken sizzling on it, and the tricycle next to the pickup, and poles and pieces of wood nearby.
They alleged in their report that they smelled alcohol on Johnson and Rose's breath, and the couple both admitted to having had three or four drinks while grilling.
Johnson was arrested on Tuesday and released from the Angelina County Jail the next day on $3,000 bail, charged with felony criminally negligent homicide.
Kash's obituary identified his father as Ian Yeater and listed Johnson as his 'bonus dad' and Yeater's new partner as his 'bonus mom.'
'Kash "Money" was a very happy child who always had a smile on his face,' the obituary read.
'He didn't believe in Santa but he lived up to his name Kash "Money" by still believing in the tooth fairy because of the money under his pillow.
'He loved spooky things, but he was still afraid of the dark and had to have a light on. His best buddy was his brother... whom he loved dearly.
'Kash also loved his baby brother... he was the only one that could calm him down.
'He was a gamer boy and loved his video games (especially Among Us and Sonic).
'He enjoyed swimming, school, fishing and four wheelers. Kash had a very kind heart and loved to give and receive hugs.'
Johnson and Rose were married in September 2023, and had their own son the following August.
She had gushed previously online about Johnson and what a good stepfather he was to her two sons.
Kash will be buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Lufkin on Saturday.

New details about 2023 Titan submersible implosion revealed in Netflix documentary
An upcoming Netflix documentary reveals new details about the June 2023 Titan submersible, which was traveling to the wreck of the Titanic when it imploded, killing all five people aboard. "Titan: The OceanGate Disaster" looks at the warnings that were ignored about the submersible's designs. David Lochridge, the chief submersible pilot, tried to warn the company's CEO about the potential dangers and was fired for doing so. "There was nothing safe on that vehicle at all, hence why I raised my concerns verbally and also put them down on paper as well," Lochridge told the "TODAY" show. "When I raised the concerns and put them down on paper, on my quality inspection report, I was subsequently taken into the boardroom. Over a two-hour 10-minute period, I was dismissed from the company. So I was fired, basically." A part of Lochridge's job was to assist with the build of the submersible and then take the paying customers down to the wreck. OceanGate charged passengers $250,000 apiece to visit the site. Lochridge said he expressed his concerns over the course of the submersible being built. Part of his worries stemmed from the carbon fiber design of the submersible, which he said wasn't safe for deep dives. He also filed a federal whistleblower complaint and lawsuit to try and get the warning out to the public. The underwater vessel disappeared June 18 after officials said it suffered a " catastrophic implosion." OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, 61, who was piloting the Titan; deep sea explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, who was experienced in visiting the Titanic wreck site; British tycoon Hamish Harding, 58; and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son, Suleman, 19, were killed. OceanGate said in a statement Thursday: "We again offer our deepest condolences to the families of those who died on June 18, 2023, and to all those impacted by the tragedy." The company said it "permanently wound down its operations" after the tragedy and is fully cooperating with investigations being conducted by the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Labour minister in 'jaw-dropping' U-turn on drug consumption rooms
Diana Johnson, for the Home Office, was confronted with her own words backing the facilities at a meeting of the Scottish Affairs Committee on Tuesday morning. LibDem Angus McDonald said his 'jaw had just dropped open' after Johnson repeatedly ruled out reforming drug laws and suggested that the UK Government would not consider changes even if the Thistle Centre trial in Glasgow proved a success. Asked what the Government's response would be if the facility showed a reduction in viruses such as HIV, she said: 'We do not support drug consumption facilities, it's not our policy, we do not want to, we will not be amending the Misuse of Drugs Act.' McDonald said: 'My jaw has just dropped open with that. If the Thistle turns out to be a great success within a year, I would be so excited about rolling that out everywhere and I wouldn't wait for two and a half years; 1100 people are dying per year. "It's working all round the world, as far as I understand it. I think it's the most wonderful way of cutting drug deaths and then we can work at rehabilitation. 'Why wouldn't we want to follow that?' Johnson said that the Glasgow scheme was a pilot and its results had to be evaluated, adding: 'This is not UK Government policy, it's obviously something that the Scottish Government have decided to do.' READ MORE: Labour MPs visit Israel on lobbying trip in middle of Gaza genocide McDonald said Labour's position was 'basically condemning thousands of people to death', to which Johnson replied: 'No, I don't accept that, with the greatest respect. 'This is not the only thing that can be done to deal with drug misuse.' Johnson also squirmed under questioning from the SNP's Stephen Flynn, who pressed her on what evidence had made her change her mind on drug consumption facilities. Before Labour came to power, Johnson (below) chaired the Home Affairs Committee, which produced a report which said the Scottish and UK governments 'must' work together on a drug consumption facility. (Image: BBC) Flynn asked repeatedly what evidence had changed, to which Johnson replied that her personal views were 'irrelevant', arguing that she was a mouthpiece for the Government position. The SNP's Westminster leader said: 'Do you think the public watching would regard it as acceptable that a government minister is quite happy to change their opinion on such a significant matter […] on the basis of no evidence changing whatsoever?' McDonald interjected to say he agreed with Flynn's point adding: 'I think this is a moral stance.' Johnson replied: 'With the greatest respect, as a member of the party that was in government that oversaw and joined in with the Conservatives the massive cuts to drug treatment services between 2010 and 2015, I think you should just reflect on the position that Scotland is in because of the decisions that your party took at that time.'
