Eight arrests after disorder outside Banbury barber shop
Three people have been injured and eight arrested following disorder outside a barber shop in Oxfordshire.Two boys, aged 15 and 17, and a 35-year-old woman required hospital treatment after the disturbance in Orchard Way, Banbury, on Friday afternoon.Three boys, aged 15 to 17, and four men, aged 19 to 25, all from Banbury, were held on suspicion of affray. One of the 17-year-olds was also held on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.A Section 60 stop-and-search order has been imposed for 24 hours in a bid to prevent further violence, Thames Valley Police said.
The force said a group of people were involved in a "public disorder incident" outside the barber shop at about 14:20 BST.The Section 60 order, in place until 17:00 BST on Saturday, allows officers to stop and search anyone in the designated area.Det Insp James Holden-White said: "These are emergency powers and the threshold to implement them is very high, however, we are using them to keep our communities safe."If you are stopped by an officer, please do not be worried as this does not mean that you are in trouble."The boundary of the stop-and-search area starts at the junction of Orchard Way and Gillett Road, on to Orchard way to the junction of Warwick Road, on to Warwick Road to the junction of Bath Road, Bath Road to the junction of Gillett Road and from Gillet Road to the junction of Orchard Way. It includes the shopping precinct at the junction of Orchard Way and The Fairway.The force is appealing for witnesses and anyone with information or footage of the incident.

Woman held after boy, 4, found dead in Maidenhead
A 37-year-old woman has been arrested after a four-year-old boy was found dead at a property in Maidenhead. The child was discovered deceased after police attended the address on Dunholme Road in the Berkshire town on Tuesday evening. A crime scene will remain at the scene until June 17 and the arrested woman is in custody. Det Insp Rob Underhill, of Thames Valley Police, said: 'This is an exceptionally tragic incident, in which a young boy has passed away. 'Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the boy's next of kin are aware and my thoughts, and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police, are with them at this extremely difficult time. 'I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we are confident that there is no wider risk to the community and thank you for your patience as our officers continue their work.' Det Insp Underhill urged any people who may have any information regarding the incident to share it with the force.

Mortar discovered at scene of fatal Sandhurst property fire
Decommissioned mortar and flammable chemicals have been found at the scene of a fire where a man died. A man in his 80s was airlifted to hospital with what proved to be fatal injuries after the blaze at a property on Oak Avenue in Sandhurst, Berkshire, on Friday. Police and fire crews remained at the scene to carry out investigations and discovered the mortar - which a specialist team has now safely destroyed - during a search of the site on Tuesday. The force, which said it was also working on removing the chemicals, said the death was being investigated as unexplained but was not believed to be suspicious. Det Supt Andrew Penrith, of Thames Valley Police, said: "This was a sad incident and our thoughts are with the family of the man who died." 'Priority is safety' He added: "Yesterday during searches of the property as part of the investigation officers found what was thought to be a decommissioned mortar."The [explosive ordnance disposal team] attended yesterday as a precaution and disposed of the mortar."Additionally some flammable and potentially hazardous chemicals have been located and we are working to remove these safely."Our priority is the safety of the wider public and those attending the scene. We do not believe there is a wider danger to the public, and evacuation of residents is not required."Officers and other agencies are likely to be at the property for some time to make sure the property is safe."There is no ongoing criminal investigation".The coroner has been informed.
