Warriors Choice Foundation looks to redefine veteran resources
(NewsNation) — Anthony Longo, founder of Warriors Choice Foundation, is helping connect veterans with service dogs and other holistic treatments. The nonprofit tailors PTSD-treatment plans for each veteran it helps, offering resources in one-on-one counseling, occupational therapy, wellness retreats, sensory deprivation float tanks and more. 'We try to make it our mission to being able to provide essentially that choice back to the individual, being able to say, 'Hey, look, what do I need for me to get better?' and to take it from there and just kind of give them that sovereignty,' Longo told 'Morning in America' on Memorial Day. Arlington National Cemetery's Section 60 honors Iraq, Afghanistan vets By taking veterans' care from the one-size-fits-all mold, Longo said it's possible to recognize 'what's accessible and available out there that isn't really covered through insurance a lot of the times.' Longo said his own service dog, Bourbon, is 'the founder of this organization.' 'Through his lines and litter, we had 17 puppies that went out to veterans initially, and then as we started growing with the organization,' he said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Stop and search order imposed on town by police
Disorder on a town's streets led a police force to impose additional stop and search restrictions over an evening. Hertfordshire Police introduced a Section 60 order in parts of Watford on Wednesday at 19:00 BST and it was withdrawn just before midnight following a review. The order gave officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals to minimise criminality and violence in the area. The force added that officers on patrol across the town have reverted back to using standard stop and search powers. Insp Neil Canning said: "This Section 60 order [allowed] officers to stop and search people who are suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality." The force said the action was "not meant to disrupt or inconvenience people going about their daily lives, but instead sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this behaviour in the town". Boy, 13, arrested after assaulting Police Officer during Stop and Search crackdown in Kirkby
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer as part of a major crackdown on crime in Kirkby. The teenager was detained after allegedly kicking an officer in the leg while being transported in a police car following a report of anti-social behaviour near a fast food restaurant. Merseyside Police confirmed the arrest was made as part of an ongoing Section 60 order, which was introduced in the area after two teenagers were stabbed earlier this week. A Section 60 Order allows officers to stop and search people without reasonable suspicion in a designated area to help prevent serious violence. Officers had been called to Popeyes, on the Academy Business Park, after reports that a group of youths were causing a disturbance. When police arrived, they were met with threats and verbal abuse. Two boys were taken home by officers, but one continued to be abusive inside the patrol car and is then said to have assaulted an officer. The 13-year-old from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening and abusive behaviour. He remains in custody. A second youth was found with a small quantity of suspected cannabis and was taken home after being spoken to by officers. The incidents come during a heightened police presence in the Tower Hill and Westvale areas following a double stabbing on Whitefield Drive on Wednesday 30 April. A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition. Since the Section 60 powers came into effect on Thursday 1 May, officers have carried out 68 stop and searches, made four arrests, seized drugs, and issued community resolution orders. One man was stopped near the scene of the stabbing and found carrying a snooker ball wrapped in a sock. An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. Chief Inspector Ray Mavrakakis from Merseyside Police said: "We've already seen a number of positive results and this will continue now that the Section 60 has been extended for 24 hours. "I hope the activity demonstrates very clearly that there is simply no hiding place for anyone who brings misery to our communities." The enhanced stop and search powers are now in place until 6pm on Saturday 3 May and cover the areas of Tower Hill and Westvale.

Boy, 14, charged with attempted murder after two teenagers stabbed
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after two other teenagers were seriously injured in a stabbing in Merseyside. The victims, a 14-year-old girl and a boy, 15, remain in a stable condition in hospital following the incident in Whitefield Drive, Westvale, Kirkby, on Wednesday. A Merseyside Police spokesman previously said the boy suffered a number of stab wounds to the body and the girl suffered a single stab wound to the chest. Detectives believe the stabbing may be linked to an earlier dispute between youths. The 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder, Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place after his arrest on Thursday, the force said. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Youth Remand court on Friday. A second suspect, a 15-year-old boy, has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and Section 18 wounding with intent and remains in custody for questioning. A Section 60 order, which gives officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals across the area and designed to prevent serious violence, remains in place in the Kirkby area until 6pm on Friday, the force said. Detective Inspector Graeme Osborne said: 'Even though we have made arrests and a charge, our investigation remains ongoing. 'We are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward. Knives have no place on the streets of Merseyside and we will continue to do everything within our powers to find the people carrying and using weapons and bringing them to justice.'
