Manhunt over Epping migrant hotel disorder as protesters gather again
Police are hunting three men in connection with violent disorder outside a migrant hotel that injured eight officers in Epping. Officers released images of the suspects as more than 100 protesters gathered outside the Bell Hotel in Essex believed to be housing asylum seekers on Sunday night. There is a line of police vans and officers blocking off the entrance to the hotel, with protesters facing them on the other side of the pavement. Some are holding signs which say 'deport foreign criminals', 'we go home when they go back' and 'defend our girls'. A small number of protesters are wearing balaclavas and face coverings against police orders. An Essex Police spokesman, imposing a Section 60 order lasting until Monday morning, said: 'Anyone who refuses to remove a face covering when required to do so is likely to be arrested and if convicted could face imprisonment.' The investigation to identify those who caused disorder in the town on Thursday continued. Essex Police said that a group intent on causing trouble and violence, arrived on the high street. One man was seen jumping on a riot van and kicking in the windscreen. The group damaged a number of police vehicles, threw projectiles and injured eight police officers, according to the force. One Metropolitan police van sped through an improvised blockade on Epping High Street 'making contact' with a protester who appeared to fail to move out of the way. Staff at the hotel told Metro on Thursday that the car park was a no-go zone after the riot as they feared the protesters would return in force. One, who looked visibly shaken, said: 'Everyone is ok but no one is allowed in the car park. The police say so.' A nearby resident, 48, who did not want to be named, said: 'I was sickened by what I saw. This is not acceptable. We have families and having these thugs shouting and chucking stuff is disgusting.' Another said: 'It's not ideal living right near a migrant hotel but what is worse is these rioters causing mayhem. There is rubbish everywhere from stuff they have chucked and they sort of lay siege to the hotel which must be terrifying for those inside.' Detectives are now seeking to trace the three men in connection with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker. Chief Supt Simon Anslow said: 'We continue to have a dedicated team of detectives working around the clock to find all of those who came to Epping last week intent on causing violence and disorder. 'There is no place for that on the streets of our county and there is a difference between peaceful, legitimate protest and those who are only interested in mindless thuggery. 'I continue to urge residents to support us by sending us your footage or imagery of those who came to Epping to do nothing but cause trouble. 'And a big thank you to those who have helped us by sending footage and images into us, we are grateful.' Police given extended powers in Oldham after car chase and machetes
Police have been given extended stop and search powers after a number incidents involving machetes and a car chase. The disorder broke out in Oldham on the evening of Thursday 03 July, with police first being called to Lee Street after receiving reports of a chase between two SUVs. Greater Manchester Police said two men in their 20s and a man in his 50s have been arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody for questioning. The force authorised Section 60 powers to run from 2.59am on Friday until the same time on Saturday under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. One of the two SUVs collided with a tree before men with machetes who were chasing the vehicle attempted to attack the driver, GMP said. At about 10.20pm another disturbance involving at least 10 men 'with various weapons' was reported, the force added. Police said they found more than 100 people were on the street, 'with pockets of disorder still in the area' that dispersed after officers arrived. Around 15 minutes later officers responded to claims a man had been attacked on Roundthorn Road, and found a 'smashed taxi' and a man in his 20s with minor injuries. Superintendent Cara Charlesworth, from GMP's Oldham division, said: 'Our number one priority, as always, is keeping the community in Oldham safe, and I believe this Section 60 authority is proportionate and necessary following a number of incidents overnight. 'This authority enables officers to utilise extra powers to stop-search individuals and hopefully ensure some potentially dangerous weapons that we have been aware of overnight, are taken off the streets. 'We have made arrests, seized vehicles that are believed to be involved in these incidents, CCTV inquires are ongoing and arrest attempts for outstanding suspects are being made.' She added: 'I would like to reassure the public that we are putting extra resources into the area to provide reassurance, which will continue into this evening and throughout the weekend. 'If you see any of our officers out on patrol, please speak to us, we are looking for any information that would assist us with our inquiries and your support is vital.' The Section 60 order covers the junction between Constantine Street and Greenacres Road, Greenacres Road to Oldham Way, and Oldham Way to Park Road. It also includes Park Road to the junction with King's Road, King's Road via the outer border of Snipe Clough Nature Reserve, Snipe Clough Nature Reserve to the Dean Terrance junction with Alt Lane, and Alt Lane to the Abbey Hills Road junction with Holts Lane. The order further includes Holts Lane to Sunny Bank, Sunny Bank to the Thomas Street junction with High Street, High Street to the Lees Road junction with Wellyhole Street, and Wellyhole Street to the junction between Constantine Street and Greenacres Road.

Warriors Choice Foundation looks to redefine veteran resources
(NewsNation) — Anthony Longo, founder of Warriors Choice Foundation, is helping connect veterans with service dogs and other holistic treatments. The nonprofit tailors PTSD-treatment plans for each veteran it helps, offering resources in one-on-one counseling, occupational therapy, wellness retreats, sensory deprivation float tanks and more. 'We try to make it our mission to being able to provide essentially that choice back to the individual, being able to say, 'Hey, look, what do I need for me to get better?' and to take it from there and just kind of give them that sovereignty,' Longo told 'Morning in America' on Memorial Day. Arlington National Cemetery's Section 60 honors Iraq, Afghanistan vets By taking veterans' care from the one-size-fits-all mold, Longo said it's possible to recognize 'what's accessible and available out there that isn't really covered through insurance a lot of the times.' Longo said his own service dog, Bourbon, is 'the founder of this organization.' 'Through his lines and litter, we had 17 puppies that went out to veterans initially, and then as we started growing with the organization,' he said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Stop and search order imposed on town by police
Disorder on a town's streets led a police force to impose additional stop and search restrictions over an evening. Hertfordshire Police introduced a Section 60 order in parts of Watford on Wednesday at 19:00 BST and it was withdrawn just before midnight following a review. The order gave officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals to minimise criminality and violence in the area. The force added that officers on patrol across the town have reverted back to using standard stop and search powers. Insp Neil Canning said: "This Section 60 order [allowed] officers to stop and search people who are suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality." The force said the action was "not meant to disrupt or inconvenience people going about their daily lives, but instead sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this behaviour in the town".
