Higher Defense Council Reaffirms National Security as Top Priority, Calls for Transparent Municipal Elections
Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Moustafa announced that President Joseph Aoun initiated the first meeting of the Supreme Defense Council since taking office with a brief overview of the Council's role and powers.
President Aoun emphasized the importance of reinforcing security and asserting state authority across all Lebanese territory—citing the National Accord Document, the presidential oath, and the government's policy statement as foundational references for these priorities.
The meeting, held at Baabda Palace, was chaired by President Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, relevant ministers, and top security and judicial officials.
Following the meeting, the Supreme Defense Council issued a recommendation to the Cabinet to formally warn the Hamas movement against 'using Lebanese territory for any actions that may compromise Lebanon's national security.'
'The strictest measures and procedures will be taken to put a definitive end to any act violating Lebanese sovereignty,' the Council stressed.
The Council also took note of plans by the judiciary to begin prosecutions early next week against those detained in connection with the rocket launches of March 22 and 28, 2025. It confirmed that all individuals found complicit, based on the ongoing investigations, will be prosecuted. In accordance with legal protocol, the Council's resolutions remain classified.
During the session, President Aoun reiterated the necessity of strengthening national stability and extending the state's control over all Lebanese territory, stressing the positive impact this would have across political, economic, and social levels.

He also called on relevant ministries to ensure full readiness for the upcoming municipal and local elections. Aoun underscored the importance of conducting these elections with transparency, in a democratic spirit, and free from any form of influence or coercion.
'Municipal governance is fundamentally developmental. Candidates must compete democratically, and citizens must vote in line with their conscience and national duty,' he said.
Prime Minister Salam echoed the president's remarks, emphasizing the importance of holding this constitutional and democratic process after a nine-year delay. He reaffirmed the neutrality of the government and its institutions and expressed confidence in the professionalism of the electoral administration, which, he said, would reflect positively on the credibility of the process.

Israeli Occupation Forces Breach Blue Line Again, Escalating Ceasefire Violations in Lebanon
The Israeli occupation forces once again violated the UN-demarcated Blue Line on Wednesday morning, as over 50 Zionist soldiers, accompanied by two military bulldozers, crossed into Lebanese territory at the 'Bir Shouaib' area east of the southern town of Blida. The troops began excavation work at the same site where a similar breach occurred ten days ago—an incursion that was fully cleared by the Lebanese Army at the time. This latest violation came just hours after Israeli forces withdrew from Lebanese areas near Mais Al-Jabal and Blida. It was soon revealed that bulldozers had dug two large trenches and erected earth mounds in both 'Kroum Al-Mrah,' east of Mays El Jabal, and 'Bir Shouaib,' east of Blida—a clear continuation of Zionist desperate efforts to entrench control over Lebanese frontier areas. Circulating Video | Civilian footage shows Lebanese Army reinforcements heading toward the site of the Israeli incursion in 'Kroum Al-Mrah,' east of Mays Al-Jabal, late Wednesday night: Sustained Violations of UN Resolution 1701 These actions constitute a documented breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war and obligates respect for the delineated border. Additionally, the escalations form part of a broader pattern of violations by Israeli occupation forces since the internationally brokered ceasefire took effect in November 2024. Despite Lebanon's restraint and continued coordination with UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the occupation has persisted with limited incursions, earthworks, surveillance deployments, sporadic gunfire, and intensive aerial reconnaissance over southern Lebanon.

Three Alawites killed after attack on Syria government forces
by Naharnet Newsdesk 11 June 2025, 11:44 Three Alawite civilians were killed in western Syria overnight, hours after an attack on government forces killed at least one officer, a war monitor said on Wednesday. Syrian authorities said four civilians were targeted by unknown attackers in the Tal Kalakh area near the Lebanese border, killing two of them. Since an Islamist-led offensive toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December, the Alawite community, which he hails from, has been repeatedly attacked. Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the three civilians were killed in Baruha village by "local armed groups" who also set fire to shops and cars. The head of security in Homs province, Murhaf Naasan, said: "Four civilians were directly targeted by unknown people, killing two of them and critically wounding two others." The deaths comes hours after Syria's state-run SANA news agency reported that a security officer had been killed in an attack in the Tal Kalakh area. In March, sectarian massacres in the Alawite heartland on Syria's Mediterranean coast saw security forces and allied groups kill more than 1,700 civilians, mostly Alawites, according to the Observatory's figures. The Islamist-led government accused Assad loyalists of sparking the violence by launching coordinated attacks on security forces. The government has since launched an inquiry.

Army searches building in Hadath for Hezbollah weapons
by Naharnet Newsdesk 7 hours Army forces launched Tuesday a search in a building in a densely populated area of Hadath in Beirut's southern suburbs. A Lebanese military official said the forces were looking for weapons at the request of a five-member committee supervising the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire. The building in the Sainte-Therese street had already been targeted during the the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war. Israel warned on Friday that it would keep up its strikes on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, after it struck four locations in Dahieh on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. The Lebanese army condemned the airstrikes, warning that such attacks are weakening the role of Lebanon's armed forces that might eventually suspend cooperation with the committee monitoring the truce that ended the Israel-Hezbollah war. It said it had tried to convince Israel not to carry out the strikes and to instead let Lebanese officials go in to search the area under the mechanism laid out in the ceasefire agreement, but that the Israeli army refused, so Lebanese soldiers moved away from the locations after they were sent.
