VietJet in talks to order about 100 Airbus jets, Bloomberg News reports
VietJet Aviation JSC is in talks to order around 100 more Airbus SE narrow-body jets, with a potential deal as early as next week's Paris Airshow, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The low-cost Vietnamese airline is looking to buy more of the A321neo model, according to the report.
VietJet, which will attend the air show in the French capital, said it could not confirm the report.

Indonesia plans to start building US$80-billion giant sea wall
[JAKARTA] Indonesia will begin the construction of a giant sea wall that will stretch hundreds of kilometres along the nation's main Java island to prevent flooding and coastal erosion, President Prabowo Subianto said. The sea wall is estimated to cost US$80 billion and take about 20 years to build, Prabowo said in a speech to investors at the International Conference on Infrastructure in Jakarta on Thursday (Jun 12). It will span at least 500 kilometres from the island's westernmost city of Banten to the Gresik regency in East Java. 'I do not know which president will complete it, but I will be the one who starts it,' said Prabowo. Flood control is one of the nation's strategic priorities, along with providing livable and resilient cities, with more than 70% of Indonesians expected to live in urban areas by 2045, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said in the same conference. Java, the nation's economic and political centre, is home to 158 million people, more than half of Indonesia's 284 million population. While the sea wall is intended to protect cities from floods and land subsidence, some experts have flagged concerns about the potential economic harm for fishermen and local communities who rely on the sea, as well as the disruption to the marine ecosystem. The government is currently rolling out a multi-billion dollar programme to provide free meals to students. It also wants to build three million affordable homes yearly, while renovating schools across the country. Prabowo said he would soon establish an authority to oversee the giant sea wall project, which has been part of the Indonesia's national blueprint since 1995 yet has never been carried out. Plans for a smaller sea wall along the coast of Jakarta have also been discussed for over a decade, with the capital being one of the fastest-sinking cities in the world. The Jakarta segment alone of the sea wall would take about eight years to complete, the president said, adding that this would be funded jointly by the central and local governments. A senior minister revived the plan to build the Jakarta sea wall last year, at an estimated cost of US$10.5 billion. To extend the sea wall along Java, 'we are open to investment from companies in China, Japan, Korea, the Middle East,' Prabowo said. 'Those who want to join are welcome, but we will not wait. Air India crash: 787 Dreamliner is Boeing's flagship long-distance plane
PARIS: The Boeing 787 Dreamliner that crashed in India on Thursday (Jun 12) is the pride of the US company's catalogue for long-distance planes: A fuel-efficient, wide-body aircraft able to transport up to 330 people. LIGHTWEIGHT After first entering service in October 2011, with Japan's All Nippon Airways, 2,598 of the planes have been ordered by more than 80 airlines around the world, with 889 still awaiting delivery. Its appeal is its lightweight structure, half of which is made from composite materials, allowing it to burn up to 20 per cent less fuel over long distances than older, equivalent-sized passenger planes. It can be used for "point-to-point" services, meaning it can fly direct to a destination instead of relying on a "hub" system used by heavier aircraft. Boeing says the use of the 787 has opened up 180 such "point-to-point" routes, more than the 80 initially banked upon. THREE VERSIONS There are currently three versions of the 787: The 787-8, which can carry up to 248 passengers over distances up to 13,530km; the 787-9, carrying up to 296 passengers up to 14,010km; and the 787-10, with up to 330 passengers, up to 11,910km. The one that went down in Ahmedabad, India, on Thursday was the 787-8 version, carrying 242 passengers and crew. It was scheduled to fly to London, but crashed shortly after taking off from the western Indian city. Boeing said it was "aware" of the reports of the crash and was "working to gather more information". It was the first deadly crash of a 787 Dreamliner. BOEING SETBACKS Boeing's programme for the plane had suffered several setbacks, including repeated and costly delivery suspensions between 2021 and 2023, mainly due to assembly faults and manufacturing quality issues. The US Federal Aviation Administration ended up reinforcing quality assurance checks and inspections on the production lines. In April this year, the FAA authorised Boeing to step up its production pace to make seven planes a month, from five previously. In terms of sales, Boeing is facing headwinds. The manufacturer did not deliver any aircraft to China in May, despite having a green light from Beijing, which the month before had temporarily barred Chinese airlines from dealing with the company because of the trade war unleashed by Washington.
