Cop injured as IED planted by Naxalites explodes in Chhattisgarhs Bijapur
The incident took place at a forest in Indravati area when a joint team of the DRG and the Special Task Force (STF) — both units of the state police — was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a police official said.
The jawan is being evacuated from the forest after preliminary treatment, he added.
Maoists often plant IEDs on dirt tracks to target security personnel who use such routes during anti-Naxal operations inside forests. Civilians have fallen prey to such traps laid by ultras in the past in Bastar region, which includes Bijapur district, according to police. PTI COR TKP GK

Shivpuri: Four members of a Gujarat-based music band were killed and 11 other persons were injured on Saturday in a collision between a mini bus and a small truck in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. Members of the music band had performed at a programme in Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and were returning to Gujarat when the accident occurred around 6 am on National Highway 46, around 30 km from the Shivpuri district headquarters, Station House Officer (SHO) Arvind Chari told PTI. He said the bus driver lost control of the wheel, leading to the bus veering into the wrong lane and colliding. The deceased included Hardik Dave (37), a singer, Raja Thakur (28), Ankit Thakur (17), and Rajendra Solanki (47), all members of the band, the SHO said. He said the injured persons have been admitted to hospitals. A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the mini bus with 17 people onboard might have dozed off due to fatigue as the troupe was travelling non-stop from Varanasi since 5 pm (Friday), Chari said. The bodies of the four victims have been handed over to their families, who are transporting them to Gujarat. Chari said the condition of the two critically injured persons is stable now. "We are waiting to record the statement of the injured driver after his condition improves and is able to speak," the SHO said.

Kite string slits bike riders throat near Tughlakabad Metro
New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) A 30-year-old bike rider battles for his life after his throat was slit by a kite string Saturday while he was traversing a flyover near Tughlakabad Metro Station in southeast Delhi's Badarpur area, police said. The incident was reported around 4.40 pm at Badarpur Police Station, they said. The string appears to be an Indian string, but FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) reports will confirm if it is that or Chinese Manjha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. The victim was identified as Rajneesh, a native of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh, who is currently living in Akhibelpur village. He was lying in a pool of blood. 'There was significant bleeding from the neck region of the victim.
