The NIA team seized a mobile phone with SIM card, one Tablet, two memory cards, and 'incriminating' documents related to the CPI(Maoist) from the accused, it said.
Priyanshu Kashyap, a native of the Naxal-infested Bastar district in Chhattisgarh and currently living in Rohtak district of Haryana, was nabbed on Tuesday on the basis of information provided by Haryana Police, the agency said.
New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key Naxal operative from Haryana, who was 'actively working to promote anti-national activities', an official statement said on Wednesday.
Kashyap was found to be a member of the proscribed terrorist organisation CPI (Maoist), and was actively working to promote its anti-national activities as its area committee in-charge in Rohtak, the NIA statement alleged.
Leaders of CPI (Maoist) have been conspiring to re-energise the decrepit influence of the outfit in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB), comprising Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, it said.
The conspiracy involves several underground and overground workers (OGWs) of the terror organisation, engaged in recruiting cadres and strengthening the outfit in the northern states, the NIA said.
Many front organisations and student wings are supporting the outfit's efforts to wage a war against the government of India, it claimed.
While the underground workers are in direct contact with senior leaders of CPI (Maoist), the OGWs operate in the guise of activists to further the nefarious agenda, the NIA said.
The workers were being provided funds from the Eastern Regional Bureau of the CPI (Maoist), especially from Jharkhand, NIA investigations have revealed.
The anti-terror agency had earlier arrested two other persons, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, in-charge of State Organising Committee (SOC) Haryana and Punjab, and Vishal Singh, member of CPI (Maoist), in the case. PTI AKV RT

Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case: SC to consider listing bail plea of Surendra Gadling

New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Friday took note of repeated adjournments and assured early listing of the bail plea of advocate Surendra Gadling accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case: SC to consider listing bail plea of Surendra Gadling A bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Anjaria was urged by his counsel and senior advocate Anand Grover, who said his client had been in jail for "6.5 years". "The bail plea has been adjourned 11 times in the Supreme Court,' Grover added. The CJI said, 'We will list it.' On March 27, a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal adjourned the bail hearing of Gadling and activist Jyoti Jagtap arrested in the case. It also deferred the petition filed by the National Investigation Agency challenging the bail granted to activist Mahesh Raut. Raut was given bail by the Bombay High Court but the order was stayed after the NIA sought a stay on the verdict to challenge it before the apex court. Gadling was accused of providing aid to the Maoists and allegedly conspiring with various co-accused, including the ones absconding in the case. He was booked under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, and the IPC and the prosecution claimed Gadling provided secret information about government activities and maps of certain areas to underground Maoist rebels. He reportedly asked Maoists to oppose the operation of Surjagarh mines, and instigated several locals to join the movement. Gadling is also involved in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case relating to the alleged provocative speeches delivered at the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune on December 31, 2017. The police claimed the speeches triggered violence the next day near the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial in Pune district. The high court had said Jagtap was an active member of the Kabir Kala Manch group, which during its stage play at the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune on December 31, 2017 gave not only aggressive, but highly provocative slogans. "We are of the considered opinion that there are reasonable grounds for believing the allegations or accusations of the NIA against the appellant having conspired, attempted, advocated and abetted the commission of a terrorist act as prima facie true," the court had said. According to the NIA, the KKM is a front organisation of the Communist Party of India . The high court had dismissed the appeal filed by the activist-cum-singer challenging a February 2022 order of a special court refusing her bail. The 2017 Elgar Parishad conclave was held at Shaniwarwada, an 18th-century palace-fort located in the heart of Pune city. RS pays tributes to freedom fighters on eve of Quit India Movement anniversary

New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Friday paid tributes to the heroes of India's freedom struggle ahead of the 83rd anniversary of Quit India Movement on August 9. The Deputy Chairman called it a historic day, and a defining moment in India's relentless struggle for independence. 'Launched under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942, the Quit India Movement marked a decisive and powerful call for an end to British colonial rule. With the clarion call of 'Do or Die', the movement galvanised the Indian masses into unprecedented action, uniting men and women, young and old, across regions and communities in the common cause of freedom," Harivansh said. He said, despite facing severe repression, imprisonments, and brutal suppression, the people of India displayed extraordinary courage and determination. The movement infused new energy and urgency into the freedom struggle and laid the groundwork for India's eventual independence five years later, he said. 'As we remember this monumental chapter of our history, we pay our respectful homage to the countless freedom fighters — both known and unknown — who endured immense hardships and made supreme sacrifices for the cause of the nation's liberty and dignity," he said. 'Let us, as members of this august House, reaffirm our commitment to the values of freedom, democracy, and justice that the Quit India Movement so valiantly upheld, and rededicate ourselves to building a strong, inclusive, and progressive India," Harivansh said. The MPs then observed a brief period of silence as a mark of respect to the freedom fighters. The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement, was a civil disobedience agitation launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8, 1942, demanding an end to British rule in India.
