If you missed Wednesday night's Crosstown Showdown on the soccer field, you missed a pair of great games.The boys and girls teams from Memorial and Legacy went head to head, showing off everything Wichita Falls has to offer on the pitch. Our team of the week earned it's honor with a thrilling game-winning goal, and it came off the foot of the young man who showed out in the first meeting between the two rival schools as well! 'When you hit it, were you thinking goal or were you just thinking on goal?' Tobin McDuff asked in a post game interview. 'I was thinking I want to shoot it. I want to hit it' Leopards sophomore Chris Rios replied. 'It was last second and I wanted to hit it, and I did!'A play of the year candidate in the closing seconds of regulation, Rios lined up a free kick from 49 yards out and buried it. It was his 19th goal of the season, and it came with just eight seconds left on the clock.Mayhem erupted on Joe Golding Field as the Leopards celebrated a victory.'Memorial Legacy is the rival now,' Rios said. 'And it was just so crazy to hit the buzzer beater. I saw the vision and I wanted to hit the back post and I did it. It was crazy.''I know they talked about losing three schools, you lose rivalries. But no, this thing's rolling,' Leopards head coach Dustin Holly said. 'I mean, I got friends on that side. We're still friends, but we want to win on our side too.'A season sweep of the first ever Crosstown Showdown went to the Leopards on the boys side. The blue and gold picking up three points in Wednesday's victory, moving up the district 4-5A standings and taking control of first place with one game to play.The postseason spot is secure and now Legacy wants to lock up its district championship.The magic number is one. The Leopards need just one point in Friday's regular season finale to clinch at least of share of the district title. But a win in regulation, or in penalty kicks, secures the outright district championship for the boys on the Hilltop.
