Guiding the next generation: Texas Rangers' Beasley reflects on 36 Years in Baseball and his passion for mentorship

SURPRISE, Ariz. (KFDX/KJTL) — The Texas Rangers Third Base Coach, Tony Beasley, is entering his 36th year of professional baseball this season. It's his 11th as a coach with the Rangers. Nexstar's Tobin McDuff sat down with him during Spring Training in Surprise, Ariz. Below are a few questions from the interview: Tobin McDuff: How rewarding is it to lead young men, even, we see them as icons and people, but you see them as young men. What is it like to guide them? Tony Beasley: You know, I love it. It's an awesome responsibility because you're not just leading them as an athlete, you're leading them as men and as individuals as well. You try to just pour into their lives and make sure that they're productive citizens, whether they make it to the major leagues or not. I always love to take a group of individuals from all parts of the world. We got guys from not just [the] United States, [but also the] Dominican Republic, Venezuela. I have some kids from Panama. You have Asians, you have everybody playing the game of baseball. I think it says something about leadership when you can pull a group together with guys with such different values and cultures and beliefs and all things, but you can get them to work in a common goal. I enjoy that. Tobin McDuff: We have to do this, too, because this is part of your story. We've caught you on the backfields, all alone out there, getting ready for the day, and you're out there singing. We've heard you sing the National Anthem at the ballpark, if you were on The Voice and you had to get Michael Buble or John Legend to turn around, what song would you sing on stage? Tony Beasley: Probably one of John Legend's songs. I like his music because it's mellow music and things of that nature. So I'd probably sing one of his songs in it. And I would assume that if I sung it correctly, he would have to turn around. He would have to turn around. The full interview with Beasley will air on KFDX on March 22 at 11:30 a.m., KJTL March 27 at 9:30 p.m. and KJBO on March 26 at 9 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Team of the week: Legacy Leopards boys soccer

If you missed Wednesday night's Crosstown Showdown on the soccer field, you missed a pair of great boys and girls teams from Memorial and Legacy went head to head, showing off everything Wichita Falls has to offer on the pitch. Our team of the week earned it's honor with a thrilling game-winning goal, and it came off the foot of the young man who showed out in the first meeting between the two rival schools as well! 'When you hit it, were you thinking goal or were you just thinking on goal?' Tobin McDuff asked in a post game interview. 'I was thinking I want to shoot it. I want to hit it' Leopards sophomore Chris Rios replied. 'It was last second and I wanted to hit it, and I did!'A play of the year candidate in the closing seconds of regulation, Rios lined up a free kick from 49 yards out and buried it. It was his 19th goal of the season, and it came with just eight seconds left on the erupted on Joe Golding Field as the Leopards celebrated a victory.'Memorial Legacy is the rival now,' Rios said. 'And it was just so crazy to hit the buzzer beater. I saw the vision and I wanted to hit the back post and I did it. It was crazy.''I know they talked about losing three schools, you lose rivalries. But no, this thing's rolling,' Leopards head coach Dustin Holly said. 'I mean, I got friends on that side. We're still friends, but we want to win on our side too.'A season sweep of the first ever Crosstown Showdown went to the Leopards on the boys side. The blue and gold picking up three points in Wednesday's victory, moving up the district 4-5A standings and taking control of first place with one game to postseason spot is secure and now Legacy wants to lock up its district magic number is one. The Leopards need just one point in Friday's regular season finale to clinch at least of share of the district title. But a win in regulation, or in penalty kicks, secures the outright district championship for the boys on the Hilltop. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
