Jimmy Kimmel's 'Hacks' cameo: Watch host lay down late-night law
Jimmy Kimmel plays himself in an episode of "Hacks" in whichDeborah is desperate to lift her plummeting ratings.
Jimmy and Jay are back in the ring.
In an appearance on the podcast "In Depth With Graham Bensinger," former late-night host Jay Leno rehashed an old feud.
Leno, who has since squashed his beef with fellow comic Jimmy Kimmel, revealed to Bensinger that he takes partial blame for an infamous 2010 interview in which Kimmel skewered him for flip-flopping on his "Tonight Show" hosting duties.
"When Kimmel came on my show and humiliated me on my own show, I let it happen. I didn't edit it," Leno, 75, said. "It was my mistake, I trusted somebody. I went, 'Ah, I made a mistake. Ok, I should pay the price.' And it's fine, it's fine. I mean, we could have edited it out of the show."

Leno is referring to a guest appearance by Kimmel, shortly after he had stepped down from his post at the "Tonight Show" for Conan O'Brien to take over, only to return as host less than a year later.
During the interview, Leno asked Kimmel what his best prank to which he answered: "I told a guy that five years from now I'm going to give you my show, and then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then I took it back almost instantly."
In the thick of the so-called "late night wars" before hosts were chummy enough to start a joint podcast (read Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, John Oliver and Kimmel), the moment caused a real stir and set off a long feud between Kimmel and Leno.
On "In Depth," though, Leno seemed fairly resigned about the incident, acknowledging that Kimmel made the joke based on the real-life fiasco that played out when he attempted to hand the show to O'Brien.
"It's real — it happened. It's my mistake. That's how you learn," he said.
"It's not good TV for me because it started a whole thing that continues to this day, really," he explained, referencing the bad blood, which was resolved in 2017 when Leno reached out after Kimmel's son suffered a medical issue.
"But it's okay, it's alright. He's a comic," Leno said, stopping short of approval. "You do what you gotta do. I mean, I wouldn't have done it, but that's okay."

Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Hacks, is back in the running for more Emmy gold, but several new contenders are hoping to stop it in its tracks, including The Studio, Nobody Wants This, and The Four Seasons. Four top Emmy experts — Variety's Clayton Davis, The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg, Indiewire's Marcus Jones, Deadline's Pete Hammond — debate the race with moderator and Gold Derby editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum in our latest slugfest video (watch above). "We are almost certainly going to see the return of last year's somewhat surprise winner, Hacks, and then The Bear, which had been widely predicted to win," says Feinberg. "I think we'll see Only Murders in the Building and Abbott Elementary back, and Shrinking. There's a bunch of new kids on the block, most prominently The Studio, which I think is in, as is Nobody Wants This from Netflix. So, I think in a way, we're talking about those seventh and eighth slots that are still up for grabs. You could see returning contenders What We Do in the Shadows and Poker Face, or some new options including English Teacher and The Four Seasons." "Nobody Wants This is the most popular, and I do think that's probably going to be nominated. But there's such a crash between The Four Seasons, A Man on the Inside, and The Residence." He also brings up the "Étoile factor," claiming that Prime Video is "pushing that and trying to do a play of craft love" to help the show get in. "They were the first streamer to win this category, and so I wouldn't put it past them to take it to the finish line." (Note: This was recorded before news of Étoile's cancellation broke late Friday) Davis thinks there is a "clear top five" of shows that feel "locked": Hacks, The Bear, Only Murders, Abbott Elementary, and The Studio. However, "right now at the moment," he feels like The Studio is "the one to beat." He worries whether Shrinking will get in this year since it "really underperformed" the last time it was eligible. As for the Netflix shows, Davis believes Nobody Wants Us and The Four Seasons are going to be the streamer's "top performers." Apple TV+ In terms of out-of-the-box choices, Birnbaum wonders if "all of the press" for The Rehearsal's second season might work "for it or against it." Ultimately, for niche shows, it may come down to how many people have actually seen them. "When you go to events, [the voters] are overwhelmed by the amount of shows that they have to watch," she explains. "So, I think name recognition gets you half the battle." Hammond agrees this is a "tough category" and suggests that the 2023 champion, The Bear, will be nominated, but won't return to the winner's circle. "The Bear is over in terms of winning. I don't see it winning again. The reason Hacks won, in addition to being a great show, is a lot of people just don't feel The Bear belonged in that category." He adds, "It's a very good show. Following the Tony Awards, many attendees flitted off to cast celebrations and the official MoMA party before landing at the annual event at the Carlyle, hosted by Rick Miramontez and John Gore. Upon entering, guests were met with camera flashes before entering into a dark, sea of people floating from booth-to-bar at the hotel, before hitting the back room where a band played songs like 'Come Fly With Me.' The 'Hacks' star graciously chatted with each person, shaking hands and laughing. After several minutes speaking with the star, one guest bragged to a friend: 'We have become very best friends with Jean Smart.…That's all we need in life.' Farrow departed at around 1:30 a.m., someone in her party saying it was time to get her home. Ariana DeBose, who hosted the Tony Awards last year, similarly said Erivo's hosting was one of the highlights of her evening…that and 'Jonathan Groff standing on Keanu Reeves' during his performance from 'Just in Time,' she said, laughing. Of course, DeBose, who was in the original cast of 'Hamilton,' also raved about getting to perform for the 10th anniversary during the awards. 'I'm biased,' she said before slinking off to sip her drink in a booth with friends. Meanwhile, Sara Bareilles snaked her way through the party holding up her silver, sequin gown to reveal a pair of white Converse. Busy Philipps arrived with soft pink hair, staying close to a small group of friends throughout the evening. Scott passed off his drink to pose for a slew of photos that lit up the dark bar area with flash. While guests mingled, some were pulled into a private area for interviews. Meanwhile, upstairs, a neon dance floor remained unused at 1:30 a.m., though a DJ did perform. Stations for late night food were also ready to go on the upper level for the inevitable munchies. At 1:45 a.m., a long line was forming of Tony goers still waiting to get into the party, including a large group of cast members from 'Sunset Blvd.' who all raised their hand in unison to let the bouncer know they were all together. Not only does it turn a page for our protagonists' lives, careers, and relationships, it takes them to the show's first international location, Singapore, via the spectacular Jewel Changi Airport complex, known simply as 'Jewel.' Photo Credit: Sam Chin/Max The Jewel Changi Airport on Hacks After publicly quitting her dream job as a late-night talk show host ( Hacks Season 4 Episode 9, 'Bulletproof'), Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) finds herself professionally hogtied by the network's non-compete clause. Since she can't perform or try out any new material on audiences, she agrees to take a vacation to Hawaii. Ava (Hannah Einbinder) goes along, excited to get her aloha on. RELATED: Movie Review: Babylon However, inspiration strikes mid-air, and Deborah reroutes their flight to Singapore instead, where she can deliver her stand-up sitting down through a translator to receptive audiences without leaving herself open to litigation. Ava, unaware of the itinerary change, soon realizes they are not getting lei-ed. Her first clue is the 40-meter-high indoor waterfall pouring through a glass-domed rainforest INSIDE. THE. AIRPORT. Photo Credit: Max The Rain Vortex The waterfall is called the Rain Vortex and is the centerpiece attraction of Jewel, the nature-themed entertainment and retail complex opened in 2019 as an extension to Changi Airport's Terminal 1. The Rain Vortex pumps recirculated rainwater to the donut-shaped roof where it free-falls through the center hole at a rate of up to 10,000 gallons per minute. At night, the waterfall is lit up at 8 and 9 o'clock (additional show at 10 pm on weekends) with a breathtaking sound and light showcase. Beautiful jewels require appropriate settings, and the Rain Vortex is perfectly showcased by the surrounding Shiseido Forest Valley. Five stories high, encompassing approximately 240,000 square feet, it houses over 2,000 trees and palms and about 100,000 shrubs of 120 species from around the world. Above that, at the top level of Jewel is Canopy Park, a 150,000 square foot recreation and leisure facility. Photo Credit: Jewel Chiangi Airport Admission to Canopy Park costs about 6 USD per visitor — under 5 USD if you're a Singapore resident — and includes access to the Discovery Slides, Foggy Bowls, Petal Walk, and Topiary Gardens. To add the other attractions — Hedge Maze, Mirror Maze, Bouncing Net, Walking Net, and Canopy Bridge — there are Bundle Deals costing about 42 USD per adult and 30 USD per child. Well, Jewel's got you covered. In imagining Jewel, its creators set out to design a destination, not just a thoroughfare. Locals plan staycations at Jewel, while visitors are welcome to make it a part of their sightseeing itinerary. Jewel offers over 250 retail options for shopping, dining, and recreation. In the Changi Experience Studio, you learn about the airport's history and tech through 20 interactive programs. At 30,000 square feet, the studio contains 10 different content zones. Tickets can be bundled with a 15-minute flight simulator experience for about 50 USD. RELATED: Read our previous On Location articles The Yotelair Singapore Changi Airport is the first in Asia. It offers rooms termed 'cabins' for stays as short as four hours, a 24/7 dining lounge, free wi-fi, and several discounts and services in partnership with other Jewel businesses. The Resorts World Sentosa stood in for the Sentosa Casino in Hacks . She and Ava dine with the fishes at the Ocean Restaurant in the Equarius Hotel. Marina Bay provides the backdrop for their water-level outdoor night-time conversations. Meanwhile, Deborah's sky-high dramatics are shot on the Marina Bay Sands' SkyPark Observation Deck. All four seasons of Hacks are streaming on Max.
