Sri Lanka Convention Bureau to Host MICE Roadshows in Hyderabad and Bangalore
The first roadshow will be held on July 1st, 2025, at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad, followed by the second roadshow on July 3rd, 2025, at the Taj West End in Bengaluru.
India has consistently maintained its position as the top source market for Sri Lanka, contributing to 20% of total tourist arrivals. From January to 31st May 2025, Sri Lanka welcomed 1,029,803 tourists, of which 204,060 were from India. This upward trend reflects the growing demand and connectivity between the two countries. Sri Lanka's tourism earnings have already crossed USD 1.54 billion in the first six months of 2025.
Travel between the two nations remains seamless, with Sri Lankan Airlines operating 90 flights weekly connecting Sri Lanka with nine Indian cities. Additionally, IndiGo and Air India operate daily flights to both Hyderabad and Bangalore, making travel access convenient and quick for business and leisure travellers.
These upcoming roadshows will showcase Sri Lanka's varied MICE and tourism offerings, reinforcing that the destination is fully open and ready for leisure, business, and corporate travel. The events are tailored to engage MICE tour operators, media, influencers, corporate leaders, trade associations, and prominent stakeholders from the Indian travel industry.
A 20-member delegation consisting of leading tour operators and hoteliers from Sri Lanka will lead the initiative, presenting the country's diverse attractions and renowned hospitality.
The roadshows are structured to encourage meaningful B2B (Business-to-Business) engagements and open dialogue. Evening networking sessions will further strengthen these connections in a more relaxed setting. A press conference in both cities will help ensure strong media coverage and visibility for Sri Lanka as a top travel destination. A performance by a Sri Lankan cultural troupe will offer a cultural highlight, bringing attention to the country's rich heritage.

Shapoorji Pallonji Group unit eyes $300 million share-backed loan, sources say
Shapoorji Pallonji and Co., the construction arm of conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji Group, is in talks with bankers to raise around $300 million to refinance existing debt, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday (July 4, 2025). The company may look to raise the funds in Indian rupees, and the loan would be backed by shares of Afcons Infrastructure , along with some other real estate assets, the sources added. PM Modi arrives in Trinidad and Tobago on two-day visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Thursday (July 3, 2025) on the second leg of his five-nation tour, during which he will hold talks with the top leadership of Trinidad and Tobago to further strengthen the bilateral relationship. Italy's NextChem to equip world's top ultra-low carbon methanol plant
MAIRE ( announces that NEXTCHEM has been awarded about €210 million (~$247.8 million) basic engineering and critical proprietary equipment supply contract for the Pacifico Mexinol project. This ultra-low carbon methanol production facility will be located in Sinaloa, Mexico, and will have a capacity of 2.1 million tons per year, out of which around 15% eligible under the ISCC-EU RFNBO criteria for green fuels. The agreement has been signed by NEXTCHEM's subsidiary KT Tech with Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. as the EPC contractor for the project. The signing ceremony was attended by Mexican federal, state and municipal government officials, as well as ambassadors from the US, Italy and Korea, together with senior executives of the companies involved in the project. NextChem, a MAIRE company, secured a €210 million (~$247.8 million) contract for engineering and equipment supply for the Pacifico Mexinol ultra-low carbon methanol plant in Mexico. Set to be the world's largest of its kind, the facility will use NextChem 's NX AdWinMethanol Zero technology and begin operations in 2029, supporting global decarbonisation efforts. The Pacifico Mexinol project, worth over USD 3.3 billion, is being jointly developed by Texas-based Transition Industries and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank, and will be executed by a consortium composed of third parties. Once operational in 2029, it is poised to be the largest single ultra-low carbon methanol facility in the world – producing approximately 350 thousand metric tons of RFNBO (Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin) methanol and 1.8 million metric tons of low carbon methanol from natural gas with carbon capture per year. The contract, subject to Final Investment Decision, which is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, includes basic engineering and critical proprietary equipment supply based on the proprietary NX AdWinMethanol Zero technology, as well as site assistance services, support for commissioning, start-up and operations. The NX AdWinMethanol Zero technology developed by NEXTCHEM integrates its proprietary processes including its CO2 capture technologies. This solution further minimizes carbon emissions to nearly zero by converting captured CO2 and green hydrogen into ultra-low-carbon methanol eligible as RFNBO. This innovative technological approach increases the sustainability of the methanol production process, in line with Pacifico Mexinol's commitment to addressing climate change. Ultra-low carbon methanol supports the decarbonization of hard-to-abate fuels and chemicals sectors. The methanol produced by Pacifico Mexinol will facilitate the decarbonization of hundreds of downstream everyday products, such as fuels, plastics, paints, car parts and construction materials.
