BP Discovers Biggest Oil And Gas Find In 25 Years In This Country

Last Updated: BP discovered major oil and gas reserves at the Bumerangue block in Brazil's Santos Basin, its largest find in 25 years. The offshore well reached 5,855 meters deep. News18 Energy giant bp has announced a major oil and gas discovery at the Bumerangue block in Brazil's Santos Basin, marking its largest find in over two decades. The exploration well 1-BP-13-SPS was drilled 404 kilometres (218 nautical miles) offshore from Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 2,372 metres, reaching a total depth of 5,855 metres. This also marks the return of bp to hydrocarbons or fossil fuels. The well intersected the reservoir approximately 500 metres below the structure's crest and penetrated a gross hydrocarbon column of around 500 metres within high-quality pre-salt carbonate rock. The reservoir spans over 300 square kilometres, indicating significant resource potential. Preliminary rig-site analysis showed elevated carbon dioxide levels. bp will now conduct detailed laboratory studies to better understand the reservoir characteristics and fluid composition. Further appraisal work is planned, subject to regulatory approvals. 'This is a significant discovery—bp's largest in 25 years," said Gordon Birrell, Executive Vice President for Production & Operations at bp. 'It highlights the strength of our exploration team and reinforces our strategic focus on expanding our upstream business. Brazil remains a key growth region for us, and we're looking at the possibility of developing a major production hub here." bp holds 100% equity in the Bumerangue block, with Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. managing the Production Sharing Contract. The block was acquired in December 2022 during the 1st Cycle of ANP's Open Acreage of Production Sharing on favourable commercial terms. The Bumerangue find marks bp's tenth exploration success in 2025. Other recent discoveries have been made in Trinidad, Egypt, the Gulf of Mexico, Libya, Namibia, Angola, and other parts of Brazil. The company aims to grow its global upstream production to 2.3–2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030, with potential increases through 2035. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. SAIL supplies special grade steel for INS Ajay, INS Nistar

Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has supplied critical-grade steel for INS Ajay and INS Nistar, cementing its support for defence indigenisation. In a statement, the firm said it 'continues to play its pivotal role in defence indigenisation by supplying critical-grade steel for INS Ajay, launched by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) and INS Nistar, commissioned by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) during July, 2025". SAIL supplied the entire quantity of special DMR grade steel plates for INS Ajay ensuring structural integrity and stealth performance. INS Ajay is the eighth and final vessel in the indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) series constructed by GRSE. The company also supplied the entire quantity of special grade plates for the newly commissioned INS Nistar, India's first indigenously designed and built diving support vessel (DSV). INS Nistar, delivered by HSL, is poised to play a vital role in submarine rescue operations, deep-sea diving, and sustained patrolling. 'SAIL's commitment to powering India's naval strength underscores its strategic support to national defence goals and its integral role in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. With every tonne of steel, SAIL continues to forge the backbone of India's maritime readiness and defence resilience," the statement said. ACL Airshop, IndiGo in pact for pallet management, logistics services

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 4 (PTI) ULD services and cargo control product package services provider ACL Airshop on Monday announced a strategic pact with domestic carrier IndiGo for standardised pallet management and logistics services. The agreement covers both cargo and growing passenger operations, marking ACL Airshop's official expansion into the Indian subcontinent, a statement said. Ultra load device (ULD), which could be either an aircraft container or a combination of an aircraft pallet and an aircraft pallet net, is used for grouping and restraining cargo, mail and baggage for air transport. The partnership will involve the supply and management of the IndiGo ULD fleet to meet their current and future operations. It also includes maintenance and repair services, access to the ACL Airshop network and short-term fleet, as well as bringing next-generation tracking technology to the IndiGo ULD fleet, the statement said. 'The strategic partnership not only reinforces our position as a global ULD management services leader but also allows us to support IndiGo wherever their growth journey takes them," ACL Airshop CEO Bernhard Kindelbacher said. 'As our requirement for ULDs grows, we have partnered with ACL Airshop. They could quickly and efficiently respond to IndiGo's requirements and were fully operational in a short span of just two months," said Mark Sutch, Chief Commercial Officer for cargo at IndiGo.
