Bengaluru: For 10 long minutes, it was Tarzan in real play in an upscale locality in the heart of Bengaluru on Thursday afternoon. A 30-year-old man from Tamil Nadu, at his agile best, clambered up a jackfruit tree inside Embassy apartment complex on Ali Asker Road, a stone's throw from the city police commissioner's office.
Shaktivelu allegedly eyed succulent jackfruits and climbed up the 30ft tree in the blink of an eye, though the security post of the apartment complex is right next to it. He was halfway up the tree and a few feet from his intended target, when a security guard spotted him and urged him to climb down. With nowhere to go, the man from Hosur raced further up the tree and ended right on top of the tree, which towered over ground-plus-three-floor residential structures.
In panic, he lost his footing and started hanging from a tree branch for five critical minutes.
Police helpline 112 received a call about a man dangling from a jackfruit tree. The nearest Hoysala police rushed in under two minutes. They asked the security staff to bring a blanket to quickly prepare a safety net to help him land smoothly.

But the man pulled off a Tarzan act and hopped on to the next tree — slightly shorter, but equally dangerous to stay hidden from police vigil — each move more dangerous than the previous.

Unable to hold on to the tree any longer, Shaktivelu started slipping off his precarious perch, and let himself loose onto the blanket. Though the cloth net did cushion the impact of the fall, he still suffered a severe injury on his back after landing on the hard concrete surface. He is undergoing treatment at Bowring Hospital and is said to be out of danger. Vidhana Soudha police have taken up a case and are investigating.
Police suspect Shaktivelu, who knows only Tamil, was under the influence of alcohol or a drug and hasn't yet shed light on the motive behind daredevilry. Security guards and apartment residents strongly believe he was attempting to steal jackfruits. Though security guards are deployed at every gate in the complex, no one seems to have noticed Shaktivelu climbing up the tree until he was all too visible.

‘Hibanama': Shiv Sena MP Sandipanrao Bhumre's driver gets Rs 150 crore land as ‘gift' from descendants of Hyderabad's Salar Jung kin; EOW questions deal
Representative image CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The driver of Shiv Sena's MP and former state minister Sandipan Bhumre and his MLA son, Vilas, is facing an inquiry by Economic Offences Wing (EOW) over the receipt of a three-acre prime land at Dawoodpura on Jalna Road in Sambhajinagar, valued at Rs150 crore as per the Ready Reckoner rate, in a 'Hibanama' (gift deed) from one of the descendants of the Salar Jung family in Hyderabad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city police said. "The inquiry is based on a complaint lodged by a lawyer from Parbhani," Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar commissioner of police Pravin Pawar told TOI on Thursday. The Salar Jung family was a prominent noble family, whose members served as prime ministers to the Nizams in the erstwhile Hyderabad estate. Cop lens on MP's driver for gift land Sambhaji Pawar, the EOW inspector, told TOI, "We have summoned the driver, Jawed Rasul Shaikh (38), for questioning and asked him to submit copies of his I-T returns, established sources of income, and to explain on what basis the gift deed has been signed in his name. The family members, who executed the gift deed, have so far failed to turn up." TOI on Thursday tried to contact the Salar Jung family members. However, these numbers were switched off. The Sena MP's son, Vilas Bhumre, who represents Paithan assembly constituency, told TOI, "The EOW officials asked me questions on this matter. I told them that we are in no way related to the land transaction. 'Hibanama' is a legally valid means of transaction of properties. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Though Jawed is our driver, we do not have control over everything he does. " Driver Jawed told TOI, "I have been cooperating with the inquiry and have submitted all details. I have been employed with the Bhumres for the last 12 to 13 years as a driver on their vehicles. The police asked me about information related to the land. I told them that I received it through Hibanama. I share good relations with the descendants of the family, and so they gifted the land to me." The EOW is inquiring into the Hibanama signed by the Salar Jung descendants - Mir Mazhar Ali Khan and six of his kin. Police said the gift deed states Salar Jung's private piece of land, measuring 12 acres, is situated in the Bagsherganj area, Dawoodpura. It states the family received 12,438.2 square metres as a share after a series of litigations at the land records office and the secretariat, before the minister of state for revenue, on Jan 30, 2023, upheld the superintendent of land record's decision passed in 2016, ruling it in their favour. Police said around the same time, Salar Jung descendants signed a Hibanama in favour of Jawed. Parbhani lawyer Mujahid Khan, who reported the matter to police, asked, "Why would Salar Jung's descendants give a gift deed to a driver in Sambhajinagar, and that too after the matter has been ruled in their favour. A Hibanama is legally valid only if done in blood relations. Here, the Salar Jung descendants and the driver are not only unrelated but also belong to two different sects of Islam."

Shiv Sena MP's driver gets Rs 150 crore land as 'gift' from Salar Jung kin
CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A mysterious gift deed transferring ownership of a three-acre parcel of land in Maharashtra, valued at around Rs 150 crore, from descendants of Hyderabad's famous Salar Jung family to Shiv Sena MP Sandipanrao Bhumre's driver has triggered more than just incredulous surprise at his sudden turn of fortune. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police is investigating how Jawed Rasul Shaikh, who has been driving around the MP and his MLA son Vilas Bhumre for 13 years, is linked to the estate of the erstwhile Diwan of Hyderabad, Salar Jung. Jawed told TOI that he was cooperating with the inquiry and had already submitted the details investigators had asked for. "I share good relations with the descendants of the Salar Jung family, so they gifted the land to me," he said. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar said Thursday that Jawed was summoned based on a complaint by a lawyer from Parbhani, flagging the "hibanama" (gift deed) in his name for what is regarded as "prime land" at Dawoodpura along Jalna Road in Sambhajinagar. "We will scan Jawed's income tax returns and details of any other source of income. He needs to explain why anyone from the Salar Jung family would make a gift deed in his name, giving away three acres in a prime location," inspector Sambhaji Pawar, part of the EOW team probing the land transfer, told TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Members of the Salar Jung family who signed the deed - Mir Mazhar Ali Khan and six of his relatives - are still to respond to EOW's notice to have their statements recorded, the officer said. Vilas, who represents Paithan constituency, protested against police allegedly dragging him and his father into the controversy over a land transfer deed in Jawed's name. "EOW officials questioned me, too. Although Jawed is our driver, we don't have control over everything he does. In any case, hibanama is a legally valid process of gifting assets," he said. Several members of the Salar Jung family served as prime ministers to the erstwhile Nizams of Hyderabad. The gift deed executed by Mazhar Ali and six others states that they received their share of three out of 12 acres belonging to the clan at Bagsherganj in Dawoodpura after a prolonged litigation lasting till Jan 30, 2023. Police have found out that the gift deed in favour of Jawed was executed around the same time. Lawyer Mujahid Khan, whose complaint led EOW to initiate the probe, said his curiosity was piqued by the fact that Jawed wasn't even remotely related to the Salar Jung clan. "Why would the descendants of Salar Jung from Hyderabad give a gift deed to a person working as a driver in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and that too after winning a legal battle for the same property. Also, a hibanama is legally valid only between blood relatives. The Salar Jung descendants and the driver are not only unrelated, they belong to two different sects of Islam." Repeated calls to numbers belonging to members of the Salar Jung family went unanswered.
