HYDERABAD: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) has stopped issuing station bail to people caught consuming drugs or possessing small quantities. Instead, they are now being produced before the court and sent to de-addiction centres for rehabilitation. The shift in policy came after police saw encouraging outcomes in six recent cases, including those involving students, where the individuals were booked under Section 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and denied station bail. Officials said the intervention helped prevent further substance abuse and put the individuals on a path to recovery. 'Earlier, we used to issue station bail to addicts. But in most cases, they immediately went back to consuming ganja or other drugs. Even their families were unable to stop them. Keeping this in mind, in recent cases, we have not issued station bail. Following due procedure, they are sent to de-addiction centres,' said TGANB director Sandeep Shandilya.
