HUNT SHOCK Big game hunter, 52, gored to death by buffalo he was trying to kill for a trophy after 200 stone beast ambushed him
AN American big game hunter was gored to death by a buffalo he was stalking for a trophy kill, after the animal ambushed him in South Africa.
Millionaire ranch trader Asher Watkins, 52, was on safari last Sunday with a professional hunter and a tracker, pursuing a 1.3-ton bull in thick bushland.

Without warning, the buffalo - considered Africa's most dangerous animal - burst from cover at 35mph and fatally struck Watkins, killing him almost instantly.
It's unclear whether the buffalo was killed or escaped back to its herd.
The hunt, organised by Coenraad Vermaak Safaris, was reportedly worth around £7,500.
Cape buffalo, often dubbed the "Black Death", are responsible for about 200 deaths annually and kill more game hunters than lions, elephants, rhinos or crocodiles.
Watkins, a keen conservationist, believed hunting was a vital part of preserving wildlife.
His social media features trophies including a mountain lion, numerous deer, wildfowl and even boasts of killing thousands of doves over three days with pals in Argentina.
But during Sunday's hunt in the 50,000-acre Bambisana concession, a buffalo got wind of the trackers and turned on them.
Though not believed to be wounded at the time, the bull became agitated and launched a surprise attack.
Watkins – raised on Texas farms and taught to shoot from a young age – was caught off guard and gored in a fatal charge.
Hunter Hans Vermaak, speaking for CV Safaris, said: "It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we confirm the tragic death of our client and friend Asher Watkins from the USA.
Legendary lion Blondie studied by Oxford boffins is lured from reserve and shot dead by sick trophy hunter in £35k kill
"On Sunday, while on a hunting safari with us in South Africa's Limpopo Province, Asher was fatally injured in a sudden and unprovoked attack by an unwounded buffalo.
"He was tracking it together with one of our professional hunters and one of our trackers. This is a devastating incident and our hearts go out to his loved ones.
"We are doing everything we can to support the family members who are here with us and those back in the United States as they navigate this tragic loss."
Watkins' ex-wife Courtney and teenage daughter Savannah - with whom he shared custody after splitting in 2013 - were notified of his untimely death.
One of the dad's close friends said: "He spent every spare moment he could with Savannah and shared his life with her.
"Nobody could love a daughter more than he did. She will be broken to lose Asher, who was her best friend as well as her dad."
His mother Gwen, brother Amon, and stepfather Tony were staying at the luxury lodge nearby when the tragic news was delivered.
Watkins ran the successful Watkins Ranch Group in Texas, selling luxury ranches priced between £1million and £30million.
He was affiliated with global firm Briggs Freeman Sotheby's International Realty and was a member of the Dallas Safari Club.
Friends say he also owned a world-class hunting rifle collection.

Close pal Shannon Wherry wrote online: "On an African safari with his beloved mother, brother and stepdad, Asher came face to face with one of Africa's legendary buffalo.
"In a moment of fearlessness, as he lived his life, he met the challenge head-on, leaving this world a man of courage, faith, and adventure.
"He loved his precious daughter Savannah more than life itself and leaves her behind, and his ex-wife, who are now facing an unimaginable loss.
"Please continue to lift them in prayer for peace and strength in the days ahead."
CV Safaris posted on Instagram that they met Watkins and his family at Johannesburg Airport and flew them to the remote Bambisana concession in a private aircraft.
On his first day, Watkins successfully shot a waterbuck.
But on day two, the team encountered a buffalo bull.
The animal became hostile and turned hunter, leading to the fatal incident.
The CV Safaris website offers a stark warning about Cape buffalo: "No species on the planet has a more fearsome reputation than a Cape Buffalo. Responsible for several deaths and many injuries to hunters each year.
"The buffalo is regarded as the most dangerous animal to pursue in Africa. Buffalo hunting is thrilling and exhilarating and at the top of every hunter's wish list.
"Crafty and belligerent, he seeks refuge in thickets when wounded or when danger approaches. Buffalo are known to charge unprovoked so prepare for the worst.
"Buffalo have earned their reputation and can absorb astounding amounts of lead even when shots are well placed. A charging buffalo comes at an alarming speed. Cool nerves and a steady hand are crucial."
Cape buffalo can weigh up to 1.5 tons, reach 11 feet in length, and stand 5ft 6in tall.
Their horns connect via a thick bone 'boss' across the forehead, with tips spanning up to four feet.
They are notoriously aggressive and unpredictable – with only lions and humans as natural predators.
South African police are believed to have opened an inquest into Watkins' death.

Tragic Martha Nolan O'Slatarra came through divorce and lawsuit to fight for her US dream

Creative 'dreamer' endured divorce and legal worries after accusations from former employers in the States Martha Nolan O'Slatarra was found dead at the luxurious Montauk Yacht Club in The Hamptons An Irish fashion entrepreneur found dead on a yacht in New York was living the American dream after coming through a divorce and a separate but very bitter lawsuit relating to her work with a luxury sunglasses brand. Papers dissolving the marriage of Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra to former husband Sam Ryan had been filed with the County's Supreme Court earlier this year. According to the filings, Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra's divorce was uncontested and the records indicate that no issues had arisen during the proceedings. In April of this year, lawyer David Centeno filed a certificate of dissolution of the marriage, a proposed judgement of divorce and a separation agreement with the New York County Supreme Court. On Thursday of this week, the same court was informed by Mr Centeno that Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra has passed away. The Montauk Yacht Club in The Hamptons The Carlow born 33-year-old was found dead on a boat at the Montauk Yacht Club in East Hampton on Long Island at 12am local time on Tuesday. Detectives in the US have said a post-mortem examination 'did not show evidence of violence and her final cause of death is pending further examination'. They also said a 'preliminary investigation and exam', after they arrived at the scene, 'were inconclusive' in informing a cause of death for the businesswoman. Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra's remains are currently in the custody of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office as her loved ones await news on when they will be released for repatriation home to Ireland. Her family have been told that a final post-mortem report, including toxicological, histological and other testing, will take at least three months to complete. Although Ms Nolan O'Slatarra's social media accounts painted a picture-perfect lifestyle, with videos capturing her enjoying helicopter rides, driving convertibles and sitting in luxury jets, the energetic and successful businesswoman had also endured difficulties in business in recent years. A model poses in a bikini for Martha's East x East swimwear brand She and Limerick-born business partner Dylan Grace were previously sued in the US by the founder of luxury sunglasses brand 'Out East Accessories Inc'. In a 21-page-complaint filed before the District Court for the Southern State of New York in April 2022, lawyers for the company described the pair as two former employees of Out East, claiming they had been terminated for cause in November 2021. The court filings claimed that in the weeks leading up to their termination and for months after, both Grace and Nolan-O'Slatarra took the company's assets. This included $34,000 remaining in Out East's bank account and all of Out East's eyewear inventory. The court filings also claimed the pair 'sold or gifted the eyewear without authorization, to enrich themselves at a total loss to the company'. Martha Nolan O'Slatarra was found dead at the luxurious Montauk Yacht Club in The Hamptons News in 90 seconds - 10th August 2025 This is an action, the court filings stated, 'first and foremost, to recover from defendants all intellectual property, cash, and to prevent them from doing any further damage to Out East. 'In addition, Out East is seeking damages against both defendants for their egregious actions. 'Based on company valuations prior to defendants' actions, Out East has suffered millions of dollars in damages, in a specific amount to be determined at trial,' the documents claimed. The case was ultimately settled in June of 2022 and dismissed the following month. In the wake of her departure from Out East, Ms Nolan O'Slatarra went about setting up her own luxury brand, 'East x East' which came online in 2023. A model poses in Martha's Out East sunglasses She subsequently launched a series of pop-up boutiques in The Hamptons, featuring her line of swimwear and sunglasses. And just weeks before her death, she celebrated a milestone by hosting a pop-up shop for the lifestyle brand at the popular Gurney's resort in Montauk. Mr Grace, who was Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra's co-defendant in the Out East case, this week paid tribute to her on social media. 'I'm truly blessed and grateful to have had you in my life,' he said. 'We dreamed big together, laughed harder than anyone else could understand, and built so much from nothing. The first concerns for Ms Nolan O'Slatarra's welfare arose at 12am Tuesday local time when a man called 911, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. Suffolk police said 'good Samaritans' tried to perform CPR, but Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra was pronounced dead on the boat by first responders. It emerged yesterday that Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra had spoken to her boyfriend in the hours before she died, telling him that she was going to book an Uber and would be home around 1am. It is understood that the couple were staying in the Montauk area for the summer. Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra's boyfriend was not on the boat with her and she had told him she was meeting someone in connection with her business, it is understood. It's understood all those who spoke with or had interactions with Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra will be spoken to by detectives as part of the investigation. The circumstances surrounding the mystery death of Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra have shaken locals and visitors alike. A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said its officials were aware of the case and providing consular assistance. Speaking to the Irish Independent on Wednesday, Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra's mother Elma expressed her anguish over her daughter's death. 'I feel numb and in shock,' she said. 'My younger daughter, Jacqui, arrived in on Tuesday night and she was crying and shaking. 'She said, 'I have terrible news, Martha's dead'.' The mother of two said that she was struggling to get information about the circumstances surrounding her daughter's death since she received the news. 'I don't know what happened to my daughter,' she said. 'We weren't told anything about the circumstances.'

Fashion designer found dead on yacht was planning to marry

The young Irish fashion designer found dead on a boat moored at one of New York's most exclusive sailing clubs was planning to marry her American boyfriend, has learned. A source close to the family of tragic entrepreneur Martha Nolan O'Slatarra also revealed the Carlow woman spoke to the man she had hoped to spend the rest of her life with just moments before her mysterious death. During the course of what proved to be the last phone call she would make, Martha, 33, assured her boyfriend she was about to head home. Martha Nolan-O'Slattara. Pic: Facebook But within minutes, she was found unconscious and later declared dead by medics who responded to a 911 call. The source told Extra: 'Martha and her boyfriend went to Ireland at Christmas. He met her family and getting married would have been the next step. 'It was just her and the boat owner on the boat. She phoned her boyfriend and she told him she was just about to be picked up by an Uber. 'There is such a short timeline between when she made the call and when the 911 call was made.' These crucial minutes between the two phone calls, made around midnight last Tuesday, are at the centre of a police investigation. Martha died while on a 27ft boat called Ripple and the other person on board was the owner of the 25-year-old vessel. Pic: Martha Nolan/TikTok Aged in his early 60s, it is believed he is the main eyewitnesses reportedly described running naked along the jetty shouting for help. People staying on nearby boats claimed the man threw a container of suntan lotion at one of his neighbours' yachts in a desperate bid to wake them up. Montauk is at the furthest end of Long Island, New York. Located in the upmarket Hamptons. The town has become the summer playground of the rich and famous. Many millionaire Wall Street brokers relocate there with their families to escape the blazing heat and humidity of New York's summer. According to locals, the owner of the boat on which Martha died has two vessels moored side by side at Montauk Yacht Club. He has previously come to the attention of local police when he was given a ticket for 'failure to display registration numbers'. Given the considerable age gap between them, Martha's friends are mystified as to why she was alone with the boat owner so late last Tuesday night. One friend Extra: 'He would be 60 or so years old, and Martha recently told a friend he had asked to meet her. 'But it does not make sense why she was alone with him or why he was naked. 'Martha's boyfriend was away on a work trip last weekend. Martha was very happy with her boyfriend, and she was very in love with her boyfriend.' Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra. Pic: TikTok Another pal added: 'Martha was a bright light and that light has been sniffed out. 'She has a lot of good friends, and all her friends want to get answers and to help so that she doesn't become just another statistic. We all loved her deeply.' Although many questions remain unanswered as to the tragic sequence of events leading up to Martha's death, what is known is that a 911 call was made just after midnight on Tuesday. At that stage, the young businesswoman was unconscious. The emergency call was not made by the boat owner, but by a Good Samaritan who had tried to help save Martha's life by giving her CPR. But by the time paramedics arrived, it was already too late and Martha was declared dead shortly afterwards. According to Suffolk County Police, an initial post-mortem examination was 'inconclusive' but 'did not show evidence of violence'. However, police are hopeful that further tests by the Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of death, which will determine the direction of the investigation. These include the results of toxicology tests. In normal circumstances, it can take several weeks for these results to be finalised. But it is believed these may be fast-tracked given the unusual circumstances surrounding the young Irish woman's death. A police source told Extra: 'This is an investigation into an unnatural death and the Medical Examiner's Office will determine what course the investigation will take. Martha was a very vibrant young woman who had the world at her feet. 'Usually it can take several weeks for these test results to become known but I would think in this case things will be ramped up and they could be available in two weeks. 'Detectives will be looking at everyone she was involved with that night. They'll be looking at who she was socialising with, who made the 911 call, who heard the screams. 'All of these people will be interviewed, and the best way to do that is to is to interview them separately.' Martha Nolan-O'Slattara. Pic: Dylan Grace / Instagram Martha emigrated from her native Carlow to the US after graduating with a Master's Degree in Digital Marketing from UCD's Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School at the age of 26. Shortly afterwards, she set about launching her own luxury swim wear label, East X East, in New York. Through sheer hard work and determination, it appears the young Irish entrepreneur succeeded in a highly competitive business. Earlier this summer, she secured a pop-up shop position at Gurney's, regarded as one of the most exclusive shops in the Hamptons. Despite her business success, Martha endured some personal heartache along the way too. Her marriage to businessman Sam Ryan failed, with the couple going their separate ways. Although their divorce was in the process of being finalised, according to friends, her ex-husband is devastated by Martha's death. Contacted last night, Mr Ryan said: 'No comment. Thank you.' Martha's body was released by the Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday and her family are due to travel to New York over the coming days. There, they will await the outcome of the further autopsy and toxicology tests before bringing her remains home for burial. The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust is assisting the family with bringing Martha's remains home. Earlier this week, Martha's mother Elma Nolan revealed the shocking moment her youngest daughter told her that her sister was dead. Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra. Pic: TikTok 'I feel numb and in shock. My younger daughter Jacqui arrived in on Tuesday night and she was crying and shaking,' she told the Irish Independent. 'She said, 'I have terrible news… Martha's dead.' I don't know what happened to my daughter. We weren't told anything.' One of Martha's friends this weekend expressed frustration at the lack of official information about the circumstances surrounding her death. 'Something is not right. [The NYPD] aren't saying anything and sadly I don't know any details about that night,' they told Extra. The Irish Central news website reported that Martha's remains were expected to be released to her family yesterday. It also said the young Irishwoman last spoke to her mother on July 29, about plans to come home to Carlow this week. 'She wanted to know if I would be around to pick her up,' she is quoted as saying. 'It was a very quick call because she is so busy, but that's the last time we spoke.'

Key points ‘missing' from Netflix doc could prove what really happened to Amy Bradley when she vanished from cruise ship

IMPORTANT details left out of the Netflix documentary about missing American Amy Lynn Bradley could prove how she vanished on a cruise ship almost 30 years ago, an expert has claimed. Amy was 23 when she disappeared from the Royal Caribbean's Rhapsody of the Seas on March 21, 1998, during a family trip. 5 Netflix series Amy Bradley is Missing has been a huge hit with true crime fans Credit: Netflix 5 The 23-year-old was last seen on the balcony of the cabin she shared with her family Credit: Netflix 5 Author James Renner has been researching the case for his new book Credit: James Renner The case has left the true crime community scratching their heads for years, and the three-part series is one of the most-watched on the streaming service. Wannabe lawyer and true crime fan Kim Kardashian is even said to have been courted to help try and crack the case, according to TMZ, amid conspiracy theories that Amy was sex-trafficked. But author and YouTuber James Renner, who has done extensive research on the case and is set to release a new book next year, believes there could be a simpler answer. In an exclusive chat with The U.S. Sun, he said, "I think it's very interesting when you look at the facts of the case, such a small detail that doesn't seem to mean anything, but it might mean everything. "They make a big point of saying that the balcony door was ajar in the morning, but they also suggest that Amy then left the room without telling anybody. "But if you've ever been on a cruise ship, you know that there are warning plaques in your room that say, 'Do not open the cabin door when the balcony doors open.' Because the hallway is pressurized. "So, if you open that cabin door, it creates a wind tunnel. And it often causes the cabin door to slam shut. "In fact, some people have lost fingers because it slammed shut so hard. "You cannot quietly leave a cabin room with the balcony door open. It would've woken everybody up." During his research for the book, Renner says he spoke to cruise staff who were briefed about what the FBI found in the cabin when they dusted it for prints. The FBI appeal for information on the Amy Lynn Bradley case - a Virginia woman who disappeared 20 years ago He alleged, "On the railing, they found Amy's palm prints, and on the glass door, they found her footprints. "So it appears that she was sitting on the balcony with her feet against the glass. "So it's possible that she kicked off. And when she kicked off, the door opened a little bit. "I think it's possible she sat on the railing. I think what we might be looking at here is what the French call 'l'appel du vide' which we call 'call of the void.' "I think it's possible. She had a really rough night. She'd been drinking. She had a very big decision to make when she got home from that cruise ship. "And that was, does she live her life out in the open as a gay woman? Which is how she identified to everybody. "She didn't identify as bi, she identified as gay and lesbian. "So does she live that life and risk disappointing her parents and not having that close relationship? Or does she live a lie and turn her back on who she really is? So all that's going on in her mind. I think she's sitting on that balcony thinking, 'What if?' and by pushing off she causes action." Author James Renner "I think she's sitting there out on that balcony. When you're in places like that, just like when you're standing on the edge of a cliff, there is that voice inside you sometimes. that comes up and says, 'What if?' "I think she's sitting on that balcony thinking, 'What if?' and by pushing off she causes action." Renner explained that once you're overboard on a cruise ship, there is only about a 20 per cent chance you're going to survive being in the rough waters long enough to be pulled out. "So, I think that's what happened. I think it's likely she went overboard earlier when they were further from the port." He said he will discuss his theory in full in his book, A Cruise to Nowhere, which will be released next summer. He said, "I talk about some stories where eyewitness testimony was faulty, and it's because memory doesn't work like it does on TV and film, where you see this flashback in technicolor. "Every time we access a memory, we rewrite it a little bit. "These people have the best intentions. They want to help this family. But you know, they're coming at it backwards, they've been shown the picture of Amy, and then it matches up with this memory in their mind.' On the theory that Amy was kidnapped and sex-trafficked, Renner claims there is no verified account of a caucasian woman being abducted and trafficked in the Caribbean. I do think that if Amy had lived, she'd probably be with her partner Molly." Author James Renner "This would be a first, which is very unlikely," he said. "It's just not worth the trouble. A white woman is gonna stand out in Grenada, and it's not worth the risk for the people that do this. "They have plenty of women from the Dominican Republic, from Columbia, from these poor countries, that can go there and make more money than their family could in a year working a couple of weeks for these brothels." Renner met with the Bradley family while researching his book several months ago, but he alleges they cut contact with him after an initial meeting. "I came to care for the Bradley family quite a bit. Iva [Amy's mom] is the type of person that loves hard," he said. "I met with them about a year ago and was invited to their house, and had lunch with them." He claims that before he arrived, Iva told him anyone who is invited into their home was considered family, a comment he did not take lightly and he was hoping to build a relationship with them. "Unfortunately, once they learned that I knew that Amy was gay and that I had spoken to her partners, that was the last contact I had with them," he claims. The U.S. Sun has reached out to Amy's family for comment, but did not hear back. Top theories relating to Amy Bradley's disappearance From suicide to sex-trafficking, there have been many theories about what happened to the 23-year-old. Sex-trafficking/Abduction - this is the most prominent theory, as alleged witnesses have come forward to claim they have seen her with suspicious men in the Caribbean. A photograph of a woman with strikingly similar features was also posted on a sex worker website and featured in the Netflix doc. - this is the most prominent theory, as alleged witnesses have come forward to claim they have seen her with suspicious men in the Caribbean. Suicide - Amy was allegedly struggling with stress after coming out as a gay woman to her family, and they found it difficult to accept. She was reportedly drinking and chain-smoking in the weeks leading up to her disappearance. She was also last seen in her family's cabin smoking on the balcony, and there is no proof she ever left. - Amy was allegedly struggling with stress after coming out as a gay woman to her family, and they found it difficult to accept. Accidental Overboard - Amy was under the influence of alcohol when she was on the balcony after a night of partying in the ship's nightclub. She may have climbed up while intoxicated and fallen overboard. However, this is considered the least likely theory due to the height of the balcony and Amy's reported fear of heights. - Amy was under the influence of alcohol when she was on the balcony after a night of partying in the ship's nightclub. She may have climbed up while intoxicated and fallen overboard. However, this is considered the least likely theory due to the height of the balcony and Amy's reported fear of heights. Voluntary Departure - It has also been suggested that Amy may have intentionally left the ship to start a new life after revealing her sexuality to her family. The documentary explores this theory as a mystery internet user with an IP address linked to Barbados would often spend minutes on pages of the website created by her family every year on Christmas and Thanksgiving. "It's very sad. I do think that if Amy had lived, she'd probably be with her partner Molly, and I hope she would've had the support of her family." Asked what drew him to the case, Renner said he likes unsolved mysteries that are "giant puzzle boxes." "It could be that they walked away to start a new life. It could be they committed suicide. It could be they were abducted. It could be they were murdered. So everything's on the table. "And those cases intrigue me because they're very rare. And, you know, one of the reasons they're still like that is because they haven't been properly investigated. "So what I like to do is just chip away at some of those other theories and see what's left. "And for me, I've narrowed [it] down, what happened to Amy Bradley ... to the point where I don't believe she ever came off that balcony. "I think it's highly likely that she is responsible for whatever took place there." Renner also previously spoke to The U.S. Sun about the now-debunked theory that Amy was taken from the ship and sex-trafficked by a bass player called Alister Douglas, known then by his nickname "Yellow". He took the same journey as Amy on the Rhapsody of the Seas and tracked Douglas down in Grenada, where the now-reverend granted him a brief interview. Douglas claimed the case had turned his life upside down, and he was still receiving hate from trolls online despite being ruled out by the FBI on more than one occasion. Tearing up, he admitted, "I've lost so many opportunities because of this," explaining that people Google his name and believe he had something to do with Amy going missing. "My inbox, my Facebook, people have been writing me horrible stuff for years." 5 Amy Bradley disappeared 27 years ago while on vacation with her parents and brother Credit: Netflix
