USC basketball, as expected, gets shut out at 2025 NBA draft

USA Today4 hours ago

After a disappointing debut season in the Big Ten, the USC Trojans failed to have any players hear their name called the last two days at the 205 NBA draft. Instead of having their top players getting drafted, the Trojans had top players hit the transfer portal. Last season's leading scorer Desmond Claude hit the portal and committed to Washington two weeks ago.
This isn't the first time this has happened. It marks the second time in the last seven years a Trojan has not been drafted. This occurrence still goes against the standard for USC. The Trojans, within the last 10 years since the 2015 NBA draft, have had the fifth-most selections of any team in the country.
Some of the notable names that have been drafted in that 10-year period include Isaiah Collier, the promising role player for the Utah Jazz; Bronny James, the son of Lebron James; and this season's NBA Defensive Player of the Year, No. 3 pick (2021) Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
USC currently sits in eighth place for the most active players in the NBA. Taking a step back and having a year in which no Trojans are featured anywhere near the top 100 prospects in a draft class is less than ideal.
With this year's promising upcoming class featuring talented freshman guard Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, the Trojans should be back to business as usual, supplying the NBA with talent. Alijah Arenas will also look to help the USC Trojans make their presence felt in the Big Ten this upcoming season.

Drummond reportedly picking up his option to stay with Sixers

Drummond reportedly picking up his option to stay with Sixers originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia CAMDEN, N.J. — Andre Drummond's mind didn't change over the last couple of months. The veteran center will exercise his $5 million player option for the 2025-26 season to stay with the Sixers, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported Friday. Advertisement Drummond indicated he'd likely return at his exit interview. 'There's more work to do,' he said on April 13. 'There's stuff that's missing that I haven't completed here yet, which is winning at the highest level. And I still feel that way now. I think we still have the pieces to win at the highest level and think I can be a big part of that, too. 'So my plan is to come back. Obviously, whatever happens in the offseason, happens. But my immediate plan is to be back here.' The other two Sixers with player options are Kelly Oubre Jr. ($8.4 million) and Eric Gordon (veteran's minimum, $3.5 million). On Wednesday night, No. 3 pick VJ Edgecombe said that he's 'teammates now' with Gordon, who he's played alongside on the Bahamian national team. Advertisement Drummond's 2024-25 season was disrupted by a nagging left big toe injury. The 31-year-old big man played in 40 games and averaged 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds. Backup center has tended to be an important spot for the Sixers because of superstar Joel Embiid's injury woes. Outside of Drummond, the Sixers are young at the position. Adem Bona will be entering his second NBA season next year and Johni Broome is now in the mix after going at No. 35 overall in the draft.

Michigan State star Coen Carr not included in early 2026 NBA mock drafts

Michigan State basketball fans who are hoping to see Coen Carr spend a few more years in East Lansing may have gotten some good news on that front on Friday. With the 2025 NBA draft now concluded, with another MSU star, Jase Richardson, going No. 25 to the Orlando Magic, NBA draft analysts now turn their attention to the 2026 NBA draft and early mock drafts are starting to roll in. While many, including myself, think that Coen Carr will have a chance to be a first-round draft pick next year, thanks to his insane athleticism and rapidly improving defense, that does not appear to be the consensus right now. In fact, in the first mock drafts I have seen for 2026, including ESPN and Bleacher Report, Coen Carr wasn't mentioned at all, which was a little surprising to me. More: Ranking Michigan State basketball's 2025-26 roster by NBA draft potential A lot can change during the year, especially if Carr emerges as MSU's go-to scorer this year, but at least right now, it doesn't seem like he's on draft experts' radars going into the season. Why did the Boston Celtics make the picks that they did in the 2025 NBA draft?

Why did the Boston Celtics make the picks that they did in the 2025 NBA draft? Fans of the team were a bit perplexed by the Celtics front office electing to take Spanish wing Hugo Gonzalez at No. 28 overall in the first round of the draft. Many of the more vocal Boston fans were even more perplexed by the team trading back from No. 32 overall to take a pair of prospects near the end of the second round, while picking up another two future second round picks. So why did Boston choose to take the picks that they did, and to move back in the second round? There is no better option to answer such question than an employee of the team itself, which is exactly what the Celtics did in a recent clip they put together for their official YouTube channel. Team reporter Marc D'Amico dove into why Boston took Hugo Gonzalez out of Real Madrid at No. 28, Amari Williams out of Kentucky at No. 46, and Max Shulga out of VCU at No. 57 in the 2025 NBA draft. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say.
