Mother and two children murdered in Maguiresbridge to be buried together
Those attending the funeral of Vanessa Whyte and her children in Barefield on Saturday have been asked to wear bright colours.
Ms Whyte, 45, a vet, her son James, 14, and daughter Sara, 13, died following the same incident at a property in the Drummeer Road in Maguiresbridge on Wednesday morning.
The death of the person suspected of shooting them, Ian Rutledge, 43, was announced on Monday night.
It is understood the agricultural contractor is the only suspect in the shooting of his family.
Last week, police said a triple murder and attempted suicide was a line of inquiry.
Funeral arrangements for Ms Whyte and her two children were announced in a social media post.
The post from the funeral directors said: 'Vanessa was a devoted mother, a loving and beloved daughter and sister and a loving and beloved daughter-in-law and sister-in-law.'
It said James was a 'much-loved son, brother, and grandson' and Sara 'was a dearly loved daughter, sister, and granddaughter'.
A service of removal will take place in St Mary's Church in Maguiresbridge on Wednesday morning.
The funeral Mass will be held in Barefield on Saturday before the three are buried together in Templemaley Cemetery.
People are asked to make donations to Women's Aid.
A prayer service took place for the victims in Barefield on Sunday, following a community vigil in Maguiresbridge last Friday.
A murder investigation was launched last week.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said last week that all four were members of the same household and all four suffered gunshot wounds.
On Saturday, the PSNI issued an appeal for information involving the movements of a vehicle.
They have asked anyone who saw a silver Mercedes saloon car being driven in the Clones Road area of Newtownbutler, or between Maguiresbridge and Newtownbutler, on the evening of Tuesday July 22 to call detectives on 101.
On Monday night, the PSNI said Mr Rutledge had been in hospital in a serious condition and died that evening.
'Detectives have reiterated their appeal for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward,' the police spokesperson said.

Justin Kelly appointed new Garda commissioner
Justin Kelly will become the new Garda commissioner on September 1, Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has announced. Mr Kelly will replace Drew Harris, who is to retire after seven years as commissioner. Mr Kelly is currently a deputy commissioner and has been appointed for five years. Mr O'Callaghan said: 'The role of Garda commissioner is one of the most challenging and impactful leadership positions in Ireland's public service and the appointment process was suitably rigorous. 'I am satisfied that Justin Kelly is both qualified and particularly well suited to the role of commissioner, given his extensive leadership experience over the last 30 years in some of the most challenging issues facing An Garda Siochana, including national security, domestic and sexual violence, and organised crime. 'I know Justin is fully committed to providing a high-visibility, highly trusted policing service to the public.' The selection process identified 14 candidates and included two interviews and a presentation. Mr Kelly was selected as the preferred candidate. Mr Harris will continue to lead the force until September, when he will retire after 41 years of service to policing across the island.

NYC flags at half staff for Officer Didarul Islam killed in Midtown Manhattan office shooting
New York City is mourning an NYPD officer and three other people killed in Monday's shooting inside an office building in Midtown Manhattan. Officer Didarul Islam was in uniform working an NYPD-authorized shift as a security guard for a private company at the time of the shooting, police said. The 36-year-old joined the department three and a half years ago and was assigned to the 47th Precinct in the Bronx. Investigators said he was killed when the gunman, Shane Tamura, walked into the lobby of the building at 345 Park Avenue with a high-power rifle and opened fire. Three other people were killed, and another person was hospitalized with critical injuries. Tamura also died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. A dignified transfer was held overnight for the fallen officer. Community members, elected officials and local leaders lined the street with their hands to their hearts as Islam's body was taken away in an ambulance. New York City Mayor Eric Adams ordered all flags on city buildings to fly at half-staff in honor of Islam and the other victims. Islam was an immigrant from Bangladesh and his parents' only son. He was a husband and father of two boys, and his wife is pregnant with their third child. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul wrote on social media that he "represented the very best of New York." "Tonight we mourn four New Yorkers, including one of New York's Finest, taken in an act of senseless violence," Hochul wrote in another post. "Our hearts are with their loved ones and everyone affected by this tragedy, and we honor the first responders who bravely ran toward danger." Adams described Islam as an officer who loved his city and was a "true-blue New Yorker." "He was doing what he does best, and all members of the police department carry out. He was saving lives. He was protecting New Yorkers," Adams said in a late-night news conference. "He was an immigrant from Bangladesh and he loved this city. And everyone we spoke with stated he was a person of faith and a person that believed in God and believed in living out the life of a godly person. He embodies what this city is all about. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the department lost a brother, and the city is mourning all the innocent lives. "He was doing the job that we asked him to do. Investigators are still trying to determine why the 27-year-old suspect targeted the building, which contains offices for Blackstone, the NFL, KPMG and others. Preliminary findings show the shooter drove across the country from Las Vegas to get to New York City, where he double-parked his car, walked inside and began the shooting rampage. Authorities said an M4 rifle was recovered, and Tamura was carrying a concealed firearms permit. Investigators believe he acted alone. According to law enforcement in Las Vegas, he had a documented mental health history. Prescription medications were also found in his BMW.

Lebanese man accused of killing model wife arrested after fleeing to UK on small boat
Ibrahim Ghazal traveled through a number of European countries, evading extradition after arrests, by complaining he would be executed if he would return to Lebanon. Ibrahim Ghazal, a 36-year-old Lebanese man accused of murdering his model wife in Beirut in 2021, was arrested in the United Kingdom after sailing to Britain illegally on a small boat from France. Ghazal is currently serving a nine-month sentence for entering the UK without clearance. He is understood to be one of 23,000 migrants to have crossed the English Channel from France in 2025, according to the Telegraph. An Interpol red notice was issued for Ghazal after his wife, Zeina Kanjo, wassuffocated to death. Before her death, the 33-year-old model had reportedly filed domestic violence and fraud complaints against her husband and was attempting to divorce him when he allegedly murdered her. Hours after Kanjo's death, Ghazal traveled to Turkey. Lebanese media site Al Jadeed shared a recording in which Ghazal seemingly confirmed to the victim's sister that he killed Kanjo. 'I didn't want to, I didn't want her to die, when she was screaming, I just put my hand on her mouth,' he said. Unchecked migration to the UK Ghazal's arrival in the UK has stirred more controversy in the already heated debate on migration to Britain. 'As we know that the illegal immigrants arriving are from nationalities 24 times more likely to end up in prison, especially for sex offences,' Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, told The Daily Mail. 'Every illegal immigrant should be immediately deported upon arrival – then the crossings would soon end.' "We have seen terror suspects, murderers, rapists and drug dealers saunter into the country and jeopardize the safety of the British people," Shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick told the British outlet. 'This is nothing less than a national security emergency. "The public couldn't care less about outdated international treaties and when the safety of their communities - of their own children and loved ones - is at stake. Before arriving in the UK, Ghazal traveled through a string of European nations, including Greece, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France. Ghazal had been arrested in Stockholm in 2022, but his lawyers had secured his release by claiming he may be executed for the murder if he returned to Lebanon. A similar argument was made to secure his release from Germany when he was placed under arrest. Ashraf Al-Moussawi, a lawyer representing the victim, complained that 'In reality, Lebanon hasn't carried out an execution since 1994, so it shouldn't have been an obstacle.' 'Following the government's refusal to amend the law and the expiration of his detention in Sweden, he submitted a humanitarian asylum request, which was under review when he was released. He then wandered Europe until his recent arrest in England,' Al-Moussawi said. Both the victim's father and lawyer have urged the British government to deport Ghazal to Lebanon. While Kanjo's father, Mohammed, wants to see his son-in-law return to face trial, he told the Daily Mail he had little hope in his daughter receiving justice - especially as Ghazal was able to reenter Lebanon a year after the murder to attend a relative's wedding.
