Fairy Oak holds on for Leopardstown maiden success
On the strength of that three-length defeat the daughter of A'Ali was a 10-11 favourite to make it third time lucky under Colin Keane and while odds-on backers were made to sweat by the strong-finishing Yellowstone Lake, Fairy Oak clung on by a neck.
'She was entitled to win her maiden and Colin said she sharpened up plenty from Ascot. He thought after Ascot she wanted seven furlongs, but said six was fine today,' said O'Callaghan.
'He thought the ground slowed her down a little bit and she'd be better on proper fast ground like it was in Ascot. She was probably in front long enough and she felt the last 100 yards.
'She'll step back up into stakes company and showed at Ascot that she's capable of operating at that level. She's in the Lowther and the Moyglare and she's a real two-year-old.'
Time Bender caused a 33-1 upset in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden.
A bargain basement yearling purchase at €2,500, the Gustav Klimt colt pulled a length and three-quarters clear of the chasing pack to make a winning debut for trainer William Durkan and jockey Chris Hayes.
Assistant trainer Gary Bannon said: 'He always worked reasonably well and has got stronger since May. We were planning to run him in a barrier trial that got cancelled, so we'd no option but to come here.
'He's for sale. We have the mare at home and it's a nice family.'

Spencer happy to play waiting game with ‘exciting' Gold Digger
Albany Stakes sixth Gold Digger might not be seen again this season, having suffered a setback following her promising run at Royal Ascot. An impressive winner at Yarmouth on debut, Richard Spencer's exciting daughter of Starman was not disgraced when beaten just over four lengths at the Royal meeting and that form looks strong, with the winner Venetian Sun subsequently landing the Duchess of Cambridge at Newmarket and the fourth home Fitzella striking gold in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. However, immediate plans are on hold for Gold Digger, with connections eager to take a patient approach with a filly Spencer describes as 'one of the best we've had for a while'. 'The form is very good but she had a little niggle after Ascot so she won't be out anytime shortly,' said the trainer. 'Whether we can get her back out in the autumn I don't know, but we won't be rushing her because she's very talented. 'She will be a three-year-old so we're not going to rush to get her back just for this year, so we'll mind her and if we have to, wait until next year.' On plans for her return, Spencer added: 'If anything we will be dropping back to five furlongs to start off with then potentially stepping back up to six, but she's got so much speed. She got quicker from her Yarmouth debut to the Albany, so she'll be going five I would say wherever she goes. 'She won't run until she says she's ready and we won't be rushing, but she's exciting though and probably one of the best we've had for a while.'

Fitzella fits the bill for Hugo Palmer in Princess Margaret
The Hugo Palmer-trained filly was fourth at the same track in the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting, beaten three lengths by a highly-regarded rival in Karl Burke's Venetian Sun. This time she was the 9-4 favourite under Oisin Murphy, and took up the running early on to set a good pace from the front. As the race developed the contenders behind her attempted to close, but the daughter of Too Darn Hot was well able to keep her head in front to claim an eventual one-length win from George Scott's Staya. Palmer said: 'Oisin was very upset when he came in from the Albany as he felt he sat too close to a very strong pace, he did realise and took back but the damage was already kind of done by then. 'We felt on reflection that it was her class that allowed her to finish fourth on that occasion. 'She was probably drawn on the wrong side of the track that day as well and today the plan was to hold her up and race more patiently and use her finish. 'She pinged the lids and Oisin had to go straight to plan B and it worked very nicely. He didn't go hard and of course she's very exciting. 'She was an expensive yearling but has always been beautiful and still is and I'm delighted she's a Group winner now. 'I've only watched it once so I don't know how tough Oisin has had to be on her. She was very game and very willing which is what she has been at home since the get-go. I'm delighted today, but just sad she's not a Royal Ascot winner.' Coral made Fitzella a 25-1 chance for next May's 1000 Guineas, but more immediate in Palmer's thoughts is the Breeders' Cup, with a trip to France a possibility before crossing the Atlantic to Del Mar in November. Palmer continued: 'She's shown great gate speed today and the Breeders' Cup would definitely be on the radar, she will definitely run again and possibly twice, but I wouldn't think more than that. 'It's her fourth start of the year and I wouldn't want her to have many more than five or six runs. 'She has a Moyglare entry, but that is a very stiff seven furlongs and I would have thought the Prix du Calvados at Deauville may be the right option, it's a month away. She wouldn't want soft ground though, so we will have to see what the weather brings.'
