This Morning star interrupts show and walks off set as presenter pleads 'don't'
This Morning's Gyles Brandreth gave hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley a shock when he walked off the ITV set mid-discussion on Monday morning.
The 77-year-old television personality abruptly left his seat when the conversation shifted to "ghostworking", a concept describing employees who appear busy but accomplish little.
Gyles introduced another workplace term, saying: "As well as ghostworking, have you heard about revenge quitting? This is an interesting phenomenon - one in seven people admit to revenge quitting, this is where an employee walks out at the most inconvenient time."
Demonstrating the act, he quipped before vanishing from the shot: "So it's been lovely knowing you all."
Cat quickly interjected with a playful plead: "Oh Gyles, don't," urging him to stay for the upcoming discussion about wedding photos. "Come back and talk about wedding photos," she said, reports Wales Online.
Ben chimed in with laughter, referencing a previous admission by Gyles about the costs of grandparenthood, asking: "Who is going to pay for the grandkids if you storm out?"
Since stepping in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield as hosts of This Morning since March last year, Ben and Cat are regularly joined by Gyles and other media personalities to explore current affairs.
In 2023, the show found itself amidst controversy following Schofield's acknowledgment of an affair with a younger male colleague—an incident he described as "unwise but not illegal". Despite this, Gyles expresses his genuine pleasure being part of the This Morning family.
He previously expressed his delight, saying: "We are very happy to be here. Can I say that as well? This is a happy place to work.
"I enjoy coming in here and have done since I began coming in."
As a regular fixture on This Morning since 2021, the Celebrity Gogglebox star is not only known for his witty remarks but also for his vibrant jumpers, often leaving viewers both entertained and perplexed.
His comments about the show followed Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond's address regarding This Morning's recent presence in the headlines.
Dermot had mentioned: "We happen to be in the news at the moment and of course we appreciate that, but just from both of us and the whole team here, the crew, the guys downstairs, we love making this show for all of you."
Alison echoed his sentiments, adding: "We really do and that's exactly what we're going to do."

Ant and Dec's Byker Grove makes epic return after 19 years off screens as ITV sign landmark deal
Byker Grove is making a major comeback to screens after 19 years off air in a landmark ITV deal - and fans can already watch. The hit drama series, which was launched all the way back in 1989 on BBC One, catapulted Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly 's careers. Playing the roles of PJ and Duncan, the coming of age show followed the Geordie duo and other turbulent lives at a youth centre in Newcastle. Other stars who got their big break in Byker Grove include Jill Halfpenny and Donna Air. The groundbreaking series explored controversial storylines and made headlines for depicting the first gay kiss on children's television. During its run, the show covered social issues such as substance abuse, abortion, child abuse and homophobia. After an 18 series and a whopping 344 episodes, Byker Grove was brought to an end in 2006. Now almost two decades on, the series has returned to screens in a deal between ITV and its production company Mitre Studios. Fans across the UK are now able to stream classic episodes on STV Player, with the show becoming available on ITVX in the near future. Speaking about its release, Richard Williams, STV's Managing Director, Audience: Video & Technology, said: 'Just when you thought the 90s revival might have been slowing down, we've only gone and brought back one of the seminal TV shows of the decade. 'Byker Grove was an integral part of so many British childhoods and we're delighted that those original viewers – now of a slightly more mature vintage – can relive all the nostalgic action on STV Player. And if any Gen Z viewers want to find out who really started the baggy trousers trend, look no further than Byker Grove!' Craig Morris, Managing Editor, ITV Channels & ITVX, added: 'We are so excited to bring this iconic coming-of-age series to ITVX, marking the first TV appearances of two ITV stalwarts. Relive all the great moments with us later this year.' Byker Grove's return to screens comes as Ant and Dec previously revealed how they were working on a reboot of the show. The plans were first unveiled last year, with the pair telling The One Show how they were developing new storylines. Dec, 49, said: 'We're still at the very beginning of producing it but we are developing it and it is very early days. 'We are looking at characters and storylines, we are looking at the world because it can be whatever we want it to be. There are a lot of possibilities.' Ant, 49, added: 'We haven't decided if we're going to be in it yet, I doubt it though maybe just a cameo.' The I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! presenters met as 13-year-olds on the set of Byker Grove. In the fifth series, their characters formed a band and later signed a record deal. The duo went on to record a successful album in real life, scoring a number one hit with Let's Get Ready To Rhumble in 2013 after performing it on Saturday Night Takeaway 19 years after its original release.

Phil Vickery caught looking awkward live on This Morning after Fern Britton dig
Fern Britton appeared on Tuesday's instalment of Lorraine Phil Vickery appeared to look rather awkward during the crossover between Lorraine and This Morning on Tuesday. The tense moment came after Lorraine Kelly spoke with Phil's ex-wife, Fern Britton, about her new novel. "Good morning, Lorraine," Cat Deeley replied. "We are carrying on with our cosmetic cowboys investigation. We are continuing with that." Ben Shephard chimed in: "I know you were talking about that earlier, Lorraine." As Ben continued, the camera panned to Phil, who was standing in the This Morning kitchen. Phil, who had his arms crossed, awkwardly nodded as Ben went on: "Phil is in the kitchen with some ultimate summer salads." Cat added, "We are going to be finding out how you can save on childcare costs." The moment didn't go unnoticed by viewers at home either, as one said on X, "That link from Fearne to Phil (her ex) wasn't awkward at all #ThisMorning #Lorraine." Another simply wrote: "Awkward." Before Lorraine cut to the This Morning studio, Fern seemed to make a subtle dig at her ex when discussing her book. "So she sort of gradually repowers herself," Fern explained when referring to a female character before adding: "Distrusting of men and doesn't want anything, this is kind of right what you know, obviously." Lorraine laughed as Fern continued: "But a nice person does turn up. Ray." Fern met Phil Vickery on the set of BBC Two's Ready Steady Cook. They have one child together, Winnie. However, after two decades of marriage, the couple decided to divorce in 2020. At the time, Fern released a short statement, she said, "After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways. We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children." Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.

Coronation Street Sean Tully actor's mum is soap co-star and fans are only just realising
Coronation Street star Anthony Cotton has been a familiar face on the cobbles for nearly two decades - but some fans are only just working out who his famous mum is Coronation Street viewers have been left stunned after discovering the identity of Anthony Cotton's famous mother. Anthony catapulted to stardom when he joined the long-running ITV soap way back in 2003 as Sean Tully, who has since become one of the show's most iconic and cherished characters. The Rovers Return barman has also been involved in several major storylines over the years - from his numerous failed romances on the cobbles to becoming a father to Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne). However, Coronation Street fans have recently been taken aback upon realising that Anthony's mum had previously appeared on the same soap. His adored mother, Enid Dunn, starred on the show a year before her son in 2002. She portrayed Dennis Stringer's (Charles Dale) aunt Joan Lawson in January 2002 at the character's funeral, reports Leicestershire Live. She then made another appearance on Corrie in 2006 in a minor role, this time playing a character credited as Old Crone. She also played a woman who encountered the serial killer John Stape (Graeme Hawley) and she made another appearance in 2014 as bingo player Maureen Rothwell. Her last stint on the soap was in 2023, when she played a shocked neighbour of Stephen Reid's (Todd Boyce) victim, Rufus Donaghue (Steven Meo). In addition to Corrie, Enid appeared in shows such as Shameless, Cutting It and No Offence. She also played barmaid Joyce in the fan favourite Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights. Coronation Street's Anthony Cotton has been the centre of fan astonishment as they discovered that his mother, Enid Dunn, was not just a supportive parent but also a bit of a telly star in her own right. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, alongside a snapshot of the mother-son duo, a fan posted: "Anthony Cotton and his mum Enid Dunn." Another quipped: "She used to be Phoenix Nights yeah?!" A third confirmed: "Yes and Corrie a few times as well!" Someone else penned: "Oh yeah I remember her from Phoenix Nights." A fourth declared: "Well I didn't know that!" In a candid 2021 chat, Anthony shared a heartwarming story with Express about how his mother's actions kept his acting dreams alive after several unsuccessful auditions. Discouraged, he recounted, "I said, 'Oh I think I'm going to do something else' so my mum took up drama lessons with my old drama teacher to prove to me that it's never too late to start and it's just about putting yourself out there." He continued, detailing his mother's dedication: "And then, she did it, she went to some lessons, she got herself an agent and then she auditioned for a League of The Gentleman and she got it." Inspiringly concluding, "She started when she was 56! My mum is inspirational."
