Reports: Blazers find buyer, staying in Portland
Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has reached a tentative agreement to purchase the Portland Trail Blazers from the estate of Paul Allen for more than $4 billion, ESPN reported on Wednesday.
Sportico, which first reported the agreement, said that Dundon plans to keep the NBA team in Portland.
Blue Owl Capital co-president Marc Zahr and Sheel Tyle, co-CEO of Collective Global, are also involved in Dundon's group, per reports. Dundon bought the NHL's Hurricanes in 2018 for $425 million and also is majority owner of the PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball.
The estate announced that the Trail Blazers were for sale in May.
The NBA's Board of Governors would have to ratify any purchase agreement.
Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, purchased the Trail Blazers for $70 million in 1988. He died in 2018, with his will directing his estate to sell the sports assets.
Allen's estate also owns the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and a 25 percent stake in the Seattle Sounders of MLS.
The Trail Blazers are one of the lowest-valued teams in the league at $3.65 billion, according to CNBC's 2025 team valuations.

Browns name starting QB for second preseason game after Shedeur Sanders' breakout performance
Shedeur Sanders is unlikely to play in the Cleveland Browns ' second preseason game due to an oblique injury, as fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel will get the starting nod amid the team's wide-open quarterback race. 'Felt it early, I think, warming up and then felt it throughout individuals, so took a look at it,' head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters this week ahead of Saturday's game with the defending-champion Eagles in Philadelphia. 'When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw. So unfortunately, going to put him down for a little bit here. We'll treat it day to day and see how he responds. But want to be smart because he's a thrower, so you can't push that thing.' Sanders sustained the injury during drills ahead of practice Wednesday. The Browns said Sanders is day to day. 'If you're a right guard, you can kind of play though that,' Stefanski said. 'When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw.' Stefanski said backup Joe Flacco won't play against the Eagles. Tyler 'Snoop' Huntley and Gabriel could get the bulk of playing time. Kenny Pickett is limited with a hamstring injury. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win over Carolina on Friday night. The Browns took Sanders in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He wasn´t selected until the 144th overall pick, a stunning fall for one of the most recognizable players in the draft class. Sanders finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season for Colorado and threw for a school-record 4,134 yards last season. 'Injuries stink for all these guys,' Stefanski said. 'They don't want to miss a rep for any reason. There's a way to continue to prepare to continue to get better even when you're not getting those reps because of injury.' Gabriel was selected 94th overall in the 2025 draft after putting up big numbers at three college stops: UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon. Still on the board 50 picks later, the Browns chose Sanders to end a well-publicized draft weekend crash from projections of a top-50 draft rating. 'I try to just stay in the moment. I'll look forward to that moment once it comes and be right where my feet are,' Gabriel said this week. 'The best competitors know how to stay present and be themselves by competing at a high level one play at a time.'

Patrick Mahomes reveals his honest reaction to Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift romance in 2023
has admitted he was skeptical when Travis Kelce first told him he was dating Taylor Swift - only believing it once he saw the couple together in person. Mahomes and Kelce have played side-by-side for the Chiefs since 2017, developing one of the most successful duos in NFL history - and a strong friendship off the field. Speaking in ESPN's 'The Kingdom', the star quarterback recalled the moment Kelce confided in him about the relationship, days before Swift's first appearance at Arrowhead in September 2023. 'He told me during the week,' Mahomes said in the series. 'It was one of those where I gotta see it until I believe it.' Despite his initial doubt, Mahomes said it became clear once he saw the couple together that there was a real connection. Swift's appearance at Arrowhead during the Chiefs' Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears confirmed the relationship and sparked a media frenzy. Mahomes added: 'You definitely felt the buzz and you could see people in the stadium gravitating towards where she was up there. At the same time, we had business to handle.' Since then, she's become a regular presence at Chiefs games, often spotted in suites alongside Brittany Mahomes, Patrick's wife. Swift and Brittany have developed their own close friendship, frequently seen cheering together on game days and attending off-field events in the season. The two were photographed celebrating victories, attending dinners, and enjoying nights out in New York alongside other high-profile friends. Meanwhile, this week, Swift aimed a not so subtle dig at male NFL fans when appearing on Kelce's podcast, New Heights. 'As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast, and I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it's more of me,' she said tongue in cheek. Swift was awkwardly jeered in February when she rocked up to Caesars Superdome to cheer on Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs. The pop sensation was met with boos from large parts of the 66,000-strong crowd when she appeared on the jumbotron for the first time during the Super Bowl, which the Chiefs ultimately lost in humiliating fashion to the Philadelphia Eagles. With the stadium seemingly boasting more Eagles fans than members of Chiefs Kingdom, Swift did not get a nice reception when cameras zoomed in on her before the carnage unfolded. The 35-year-old singer appeared to notice the booing, giving a mocking side-eye response as the noise mercilessly rang out around the packed stadium.

Terry McLaurin off PUP list, can practice with Commanders
August 16 - The Washington Commanders removed disgruntled wide receiver Terry McLaurin from the physically unable to perform list early Saturday. And while the two sides have yet to agree to a contract extension, the transaction means McLaurin can return to practice and start preparing for the season. Multiple outlets reported Saturday that there was no sign of movement on a deal. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said Friday that time was running short before the season for McLaurin to start getting reps on the field. The Commanders open the season at home Sept. 7 against the New York Giants, their NFC East rival. McLaurin, who turns 30 in September, was put on the PUP list when he reported to camp on July 27, with the team citing an ankle injury. He missed the start of camp and was fined $50,000 per day and $200,000 in total, as allowed by the collective bargaining agreement. He is seeking an extension as he enters the final season of a three-year, $68.4 million deal. His average annual salary of $22.8 million ranks 17th among receivers. Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase is No. 1, earning an average of $40.2 million, per Spotrac. "On the business side, (Commanders general manager Adam Peters) and his side are still working very hard with Terry and his reps on the business side of things," head coach Dan Quinn said when McLaurin reported. "While on PUP he'll be working with the trainers." Washington selected McLaurin, a product of Ohio State, in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice and was named a second team All-Pro in 2024. McLaurin is coming off a big year, amassing 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 receiving touchdowns in 17 games. It was his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season. --Field Level Media
