Rays complete comeback to take series with Marlins
June 8 - Brandon Lowe's eighth-inning sacrifice fly capped a comeback for the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, as they beat the visiting Miami Marlins 3-2.
Yandy Diaz had a hand in each of the runs for the Rays as the designated hitter went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in. His eighth-inning double chased reliever Valente Bellozo (1-3). Pinch-runner Jose Caballero stole third off Calvin Faucher, allowing him to score on Lowe's fly ball to shallow center.
Edwin Uceta (5-1) pitched a perfect eighth and ninth with three strikeouts for the Rays, who have won five of their last six games.
Rookie Heriberto Hernandez enjoyed the first three-hit day of his major league career, but it was not enough for the Marlins as they fell for the sixth time in their last seven contests.
One day after an 11-10 Marlins win in 10 innings, Sunday's rubber match of the three-game series was a pitchers' duel between Miami's bullpen and Tampa Bay starter Drew Rasmussen, who entered with a 23-inning shutout streak, and three relievers.
It took just three Marlins batters, aided by a Rays fielding blunder, to end that streak. Edwards led off with a single, and he managed to get to third on Jesus Sanchez's bouncer up the middle.
Shortstop Taylor Walls fielded the ball on the right field side of second base and could not tag Edwards, opting to get Sanchez at first. However, with a shift in place on the left-handed hitter, third baseman Junior Caminero covered second. That allowed Edwards to reach third. He scored on Otto Lopez's single.
Sanchez made it 2-0 in the top of the fifth when his two-out single brought Hernandez home from second.
Diaz tied it a half-inning later with his two-out, two-run blast, an opposite-field shot to right off Bellozo, the fourth of five Marlins pitchers for the day.
Bellozo allowed all three runs on two hits and a walk over 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.
Ramussen surrendered the two runs across six innings, scattering six hits while walking one and striking out three. Sunday's no-decision was the righty's first since April 24.

The digital logos projected onto Oklahoma City's home court during Game 2 of the NBA Finals became a distracting eyesore for fans trying to watch the Thunder and visiting Indiana Pacers. At the heart of the issue is the NBA's years-old decision to remove the Larry O'Brien Trophy and NBA Finals logo decals from the court during the annual best-of-seven championship series. Only this year, with fans already questioning the decals' absence, the NBA tried replacing them with digital projections in Game 2. The resulting display irritated fans considerably. Sometimes the two Larry O'Brien Trophy projections would be delayed after replays and randomly reappear at peculiar moments. At other points, the digital images would be projected over players as they ran down the court. With the Thunder logo at midcourt, the floor art for Sunday's Game 2 also included a rotation of digital graphics as well as on-court advertisements for Paycom, YouTubeTV sideline and Michelob Ultra. 'This floor is a NASCAR hood,' SiriusXM's Rob Perez joked on X. Fans were left disgusted, not just at the chaotic scramble of logos, but also at the poor image quality of the projections, some of which cut in and out. 'This is worst (sic) than just having the most minimal effort,' one fan wrote. 'FANS: The NBA Finals are supposed to be special. You could at least put the logo back on the court,' popular commenter Mike Beauvais wrote. 'NBA: Here are the terribly low-res digital Larry O'Brien Trophies superimposed on the court like you wanted. They're glitchy and disappear if we cut back to them too quickly.' Many other fans pointed out that the NBA managed intricate court designs for the in-season tournament, but appear relegated to using digital projections for ABC's Finals broadcasts. 'Why do we get this court for the lame a** cup games, yet we don't get any good courts for the Finals? no Finals logo @nba make it make sense. the ads all over the place have diminished entertainment value.'

Angels obtain LaMonte Wade Jr. from Giants
June 9 - The Los Angeles Angels acquired veteran first baseman/outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. and cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. San Francisco will send a player to be named or cash to the Angels. San Francisco designated Wade for assignment on Wednesday. Wade, 31, is playing on a one-year deal worth $5 million. A .238 career batter, Wade was hitting just .167 in 50 games with a homer and 15 RBIs. He was in his fifth season with the Giants, batting .240 with 52 HRs and 178 RBIs in 488 games with the team. Overall, he has 54 home runs and 182 RBIs with the Minnesota Twins (2019-20) and Giants. He was selected in the ninth round of the 2015 draft by the Twins. The Angels designated right-hander Michael Darrell-Hicks for assignment to open up a 40-man roster spot. Reports: RB Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans
June 9 - It appears Nick Chubb's seven-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns is over as the four-time Pro Bowl selection is expected to sign with the Houston Texans pending a Monday physical, multiple media outlets reported on Sunday. Per an ESPN report, Chubb's deal would be for the 2025 season. Chubb, 29, was one of the NFL's top running backs from 2019-22, but knee and foot injuries limited him to 10 games over the past two seasons. In 2024, he played in eight games and rushed for 332 yards and three scores. If he does join the Texans, Chubb would join a backfield led by fellow star Joe Mixon, coming off his second Pro Bowl campaign and his fifth 1,000-yard season. Mixon, 28, posted 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground along with 36 grabs for 309 yards and a score in 2024, but had little help behind him. Pairing Chubb and Mixon would providde the Texans with a formidable duo, provided Chubb can stay on the field. Along with Mixon, the Texans have Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and fourth-round pick Woody Marks from Southern California in their running back room. If Chubb had stayed in Cleveland, playing time would likely have been an issue. The Browns have Jerome Ford and selected Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round of this year's draft before adding Tennessee rusher Dylan Sampson in the fourth. A second-round pick out of Georgia in the 2018 draft, Chubb posted four 1,000-yard rushing seasons and had 1,340 carries for 6,843 yards (5.1 yards per carry) for 51 touchdowns, along with 128 receptions for 1,042 yards and five scores. Chubb ranks third in Browns franchise history with 6,843 rushing yards behind Pro Football Hall of Fame members Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly. --Field Level Media
