A Grain and a Touch: Discovering Changzhou's Rich Cultural Heritage in Brussels

Business Wire4 hours ago

CHANGZHOU, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fried rice is a universal comfort food, but in the southeastern Chinese city of Changzhou, it takes on a distinct form: radish fried rice. This deceptively simple dish, blending preserved radish with perfectly separated grains, reflects both deep culinary tradition and refined modern technique.
Guests are warmly invited to experience Changzhou for themselves—where ancient traditions and modern creativity meet along the historic Grand Canal.

More than a taste, the dish embodies a philosophy rooted in Jiangnan—the southern Yangtze Delta—where seasonal cycles, yin-yang balance, and respect for nature shape daily life. The sizzling wok, the fragrant steam—it all tells a story. This signature dish has featured in Black Pearl-rated restaurants and on global stages, symbolizing the spirit of Chinese gastronomy.
In June 2025, Changzhou brought this emblematic bowl to Brussels. During Jiangsu Week, held at the Maison de la Poste and Hotel Amigo, radish fried rice was spotlighted in events celebrating Grand Canal culture and China-EU culinary exchange. As a culinary ambassador, it served not just as food but as a dialogue—an edible metaphor of cultural connection.
Strategically located between Shanghai and Nanjing, Changzhou has long flourished on trade, industry, and cuisine. The city's edible craftsmanship extends beyond fried rice, including Song Dynasty-style pastries, 'lion's head' meatballs—braised pork delicacies from Jiangnan—sugar-blowing art, and intricate food sculptures. Even Sino-Belgian canal sand paintings added visual flavor to the presentation.
'Each dish carries the legacy of craftsmanship steeped in the waters of the Grand Canal,' said Liu Yuchun, master chef and director of the Jiangnan Culinary Research Institute.
Changzhou's showcase also emphasized traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where healing and food are seen as two sides of the same coin. Just as the kitchen seeks balance in taste and temperature, TCM promotes harmony in body and spirit. This philosophy was brought to life by Dr. Zhu Jun of Changzhou Municipal TCM Hospital, whose demonstrations of 'Spreading Fingers' massage and 'Dragon's Tail Sway' techniques intrigued visitors. 'I didn't know the body could be awakened without medicine,' one attendee remarked.
From taste to touch, Changzhou offered a compelling message: Chinese wisdom centers on He (和)—harmony. Whether experienced through cuisine or therapy, it reflects a holistic dialogue with nature.

How Are Trump's Tariffs Impacting Cars, Costs, and Customers? Well, a Court Just Intervened

May 29, 2025: Yesterday a panel of judges on a federal trade court—yes, those exist—has ruled that most (not all) of President Trump's tariffs on imports are illegal. Before anyone breathes a sigh of relief that pricing turmoil on cars, vehicle components, and raw materials could be drawing to a close, remember two things: There is an appeals process, and judges reviewing the U.S. Court of International Trade's ruling have issued a stay on the trade panel's injunction ordering the administration to wind down the specified tariffs within 10 days; also, the tariffs deemed illegal don't seem to include those on cars, certain raw materials, or computer chips. So, the status quo remains in place while the challenge plays out. Which tariffs are affected by all this judicial stuff? For the most part, those "reciprocal" tariffs and other punitive measures Trump has slammed onto China, European nations, and, well, most of the world. The trade judges ruled that Trump lacks the authority to initiate those tariffs unilaterally based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 he invoked in their use claiming trade deficits with other nations constitute an "economic emergency." Except that statute makes no mention of tariffs at all. The trade judges' ruling was in response to filings from numerous states, businesses, and others claiming harm from the tariffs' rollicking effects. Even if the ruling stands, and the broad-based tariffs Trump has applied using the 1977 law are rescinded, it's worth stressing that tariffs invoking other statutory authorities can continue. And, as mentioned, those include levies on cars, steel, and semiconductors—meaning the automotive industry won't see meaningful relief as a result.

ACEL Power's 50 HP Electric Outboard Propels Porrima P111 RIB to 29 knots in Successful Sea Trial

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ACEL Power Inc. today announced outstanding test results for the new Porrima P111 rigid-inflatable boat (RIB). During sea trials last week, the 5.2 m (17 ft) aluminium centre-console RIB, powered by ACEL's IE 50™ 50 HP electric outboard and with Lithium Ferro-Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery pack, achieved a max speed of 29 knots while maintaining smooth, no emissions operations. 29 knots. Zero emissions. Proven performance. ACEL Power's IE 50™ sets a new standard for electric marine propulsion. Share Key Performance Highlights Raising the Bar for High-Performance Electric Propulsion 'These trials prove that clean doesn't mean slow,' said Anthony Liu, Co-Founder & CEO of ACEL Power. 'Pushing an aluminum RIB of this size to 29 knots—without fumes, vibration, or carbon emissions—demonstrates the headroom our high-voltage architecture still has for commercial and recreational duty cycles.' Why It Matters Power-to-weight advantage – The IE 50™ delivers instant torque and high efficiency in a lightweight package, offering performance on par with conventional 70 HP systems while maintaining a lower overall weight when paired with ACEL's modular battery pack. Endurance & safety – The RIB can cruise for roughly two hours at planning speed, with LFP chemistry offering >3,000 charge cycles and superior thermal stability. Plug-and-play integration – Features like the digital throttle, floating NFC smart keys, and cloud-based diagnostics are designed for seamless installation and intuitive operation right out of the box. Next Steps While the RIB was developed as a tender for the zero-emission Porrima P111 catamaran, its successful performance demonstrates that ACEL Power's electric propulsion system is well-suited for mission-driven vessels focused on sustainability, such as support craft for clean energy expeditions, scientific monitoring platforms, and next-generation tenders for electric or hybrid motherships. ACEL will exhibit IE-Series at METSTRADE (Amsterdam) this November. Hi-resolution images and raw test data are available upon request. About ACEL Power ACEL Power, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, is a pioneering manufacturer of electric outboard propulsion systems, leading the marine industry in innovation and sustainability.
