Ford Sets Bold Condition to Stay in Formula One Amid V8 Talks
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Ford Performance has laid out a bold condition to remain in Formula One as it partners with Red Bull Powertrains for the new era of regulations beginning in 2026. Next year marks a big reset in F1, as new cars powered by an equal ratio of electric power and internal combustion on sustainable fuels will zip through Grand Prix circuits. Given Ford's expertise in the electrification department, its partnership with Red Bull is a result of the new regulations. Though the plans for 2026 are on course, and as teams develop their challengers in full swing, discussions about the return of cars powered by V8 engines running on sustainable fuels have led many to question whether F1 cars will rely on electric power in the distant future. MoreWhile the developmental path ahead seems unclear at this stage, Ford has made it clear that it will stay in the sport as long as the cars remain electrified. Ford Performance global director Mark Rushbrook said: "For Ford Motor Company, we believe there should be some form of electrification in there. "That's part of what attracted us to the 2026 rules. It's all about that balance between the ICE and electrification. Does it need to be 50-50? No, not necessarily. "As long as we have the opportunity to contribute, to learn and to bring knowledge to our road cars, then that's ideally what we're looking for." Rushbrook confirmed that the American brand was committed to the future of the sport. He added: "That is definitely our intent. We're committed to working with all the other stakeholders for what is the right thing for the future of this sport. "Is it going to be exactly what any single manufacturer wants? No. But that's part of the process, because at the end of the day, if that discussion is exactly what we want and every other manufacturer leaves, then it's not a healthy sport either. "We know that and the other manufacturers know that as well. So you've got to work together for the good of the sport, the health of the sport and that basically means being partners off the track. "You want to race each other fiercely on the track, but you need to work together off the track." 2026 marks the first year when Red Bull will roll out its own F1 engines in collaboration with Ford, after ending a successful partnership with Honda. The Japanese automaker joined hands with Aston Martin to develop power units for cars of the new era.

IIHS Crash Tests: The Toyota Prius Is Officially Safer Than The Ford Bronco
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released the results of its latest crash tests, and while most models achieved the organization's 2025 Top Safety Pick+ award - indicating the highest possible safety standards - Ford won't be pleased with the outcomes for two of its best SUVs. The Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs both missed out on a Top Safety Pick+ award following new ratings, while at least three much smaller cars achieved better safety scores. While this does not mean that the SUVs are unsafe, they each failed to protect occupants according to the agency's highest standards. Here, we'll look at exactly where the Bronco and Bronco Sport fell short. To qualify for the Top Safety Pick award, a vehicle has to achieve the following in IIHS crash tests: Good ratings for the small overlap front and update side testsAcceptable or Good ratings in the pedestrian front crash prevention testAcceptable or Good ratings for headlights, applicable to all trimsAcceptable rating for the updated moderate overlap front test Furthermore, the Top Safety Pick+ award is only achievable if a Good rating for the updated moderate overlap front test is received. The IIHS regularly updates its testing procedures with tougher tests, so a vehicle that qualified for a Top Safety Pick+ award a few years ago may not get one now. The Bronco may look like a safe place to be in a crash, given its tall stance and beefy bodywork, but it didn't do enough to ace its crash tests. Marginal ratings for the moderate overlap, pedestrian front crash prevention, and headlight tests held the SUV back. For the moderate overlap test, the IIHS noted a higher risk of chest injuries when the rear crash dummy was assessed. Then again, even minivans were found to do an inadequate job of protecting second-row passengers, and those are dedicated family movers. The Bronco still received Good ratings for the small overlap front, updated side, and seat belt reminder tests, though. Its vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention system got an Acceptable score, as did the ease of using the LATCH system. It must be noted that the LATCH system, seat belt reminder, and vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention scores are not factored into the award criteria. Overall, the Bronco could be improved, but previous tests show it's still safer than its Jeep Wrangler rival. Thanks to LED projector headlights instead of the Bronco's LED reflector headlights, the Bronco Sport gets off to a better start than its bigger sibling, with a Good rating for its headlights. The Bronco Sport's pedestrian crash prevention system also performed better, with a Good rating. In the updated moderate overlap front test, the Bronco Sport got the same Marginal score as the Bronco. The post-crash analysis showed that the rear dummy's lap belt slid up onto its abdomen, which poses a higher risk of internal injuries. This is in addition to elevated chest, neck, and head injuries for rear-seat passengers. The Acceptable rating in the side test was due to a risk of injury to the driver's pelvis. Interestingly, smaller cars like the Toyota Prius, Hyundai Elantra, and Kia K4 achieved better ratings than the Ford SUVs, proving that vehicle size has nothing to do with occupant protection. Take the Prius, for example. Besides an Acceptable rating for its headlights, it received a Good score in every crash test. However, since no two accidents are exactly the same, the Bronco and Bronco Sport still have every chance of adequately protecting occupants in a crash. Both come with a decent roster of passive and active safety features. These IIHS tests do, however, show that there is some room for improvement in this area for the Ford twins. ID.Buzz Could Get Compact Sibling As VW Evaluates New EV Plans
The Volkswagen is one of the most cheerful new family vehicles you can buy, but its starting price of $59,995 limits its appeal. That's still far more expensive than conventional gas or hybrid minivans like the Chrysler Pacifica. However, it looks like a smaller, cheaper sibling could be on the way, based on a new report by Autocar. The report suggests that the new VW would replace the Touran, an MPV that has never been sold in the United States, given our market's preference for SUVs. Currently being internally reviewed by Volkswagen, the potential Touran replacement could draw inspiration from one of the brand's most exciting concepts. The Budd-E was the first VW model to be based on the MEB modular platform that now underpins models like the ID.4, ID.7 and The electric minivan concept still looks ultra-modern today, with its wraparound windshield, two-tone body, and bold face with sleek lighting. It's this concept that could inspire the Touran replacement, but this is just one of several older MPV concepts VW is reviewing. The minimal overhangs and flat floor will maximize interior space but keep the proportions tight, which is exactly why this type of vehicle excels. According to insiders, new sliding door and seat designs are being considered to make this vehicle as versatile as possible. Powering the Touran replacement could be a choice of single or dual electric motors. To keep the price low enough, an output of around 200 to 250 hp seems reasonable, given that the larger manages between 282 and 335 hp. The and ID.4 are rear-wheel drive as standard, but its smaller sibling may rely on front-wheel drive as standard. Battery capacities of 60 to 80 kWh have been suggested as likely. EVs of this size would be expected to have a range of at least 240 miles or so to be competitive. At this point, it seems unlikely that a smaller version of the would be sold here. Such a vehicle would clash with the ID.4 in terms of price - the priciest ID.4 starts at just below the price of the Besides this, few Americans choose SUVs over minivans or MPVs. The smaller and cheaper is expected to be launched by 2027 at the earliest, assuming Volkswagen does decide to put it into production. If it has the same nostalgic styling and clever versatility of the but at a lower price, it'll be one of VW's top EVs. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
