5 arrested after stabbing in Grover Beach, police say

Update, 12:35 p.m.:
The Grover Beach Police Department released the names of the five suspects involved in the assault on Saturday afternoon.
All were residents of Grover Beach, the department said.
According to police, Angelo Ali Nunez Garcia, Angelica Garcia and Javier Nunez Esparza were all booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of charges of attempted homicide, conspiracy to commit crime and assault with a deadly weapon.
Arturo Alejandro Acosta Gardenas, meanwhile, faced suspected charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
Finally, Javier Anthony Nunez Garcia was booked on suspicion of charges of attempted homicide, conspiracy to commit crime, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle and possession of an illegal drug while armed.
As of Sunday, all five remained in custody at the SLO County Jail, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office's Who's in Custody website.
Both Acosta Gardenas and Angelo Ali Nunez Garcia had bail set at $50,000, while bail for Javier Anthony Nunez Garcia, Garcia and Nunez Esparza was set at $500,000.
Update, 11:45 a.m.:
Cmdr. Bryan Millard told The Tribune that the suspects and victims involved in the assault in Grover Beach all knew one another.
The stabbing was a result of an ongoing dispute between the parties, Millard said, and the Grover Beach Police Department is continuing to investigate any possible motives.
During the course of the investigation Saturday, police also executed a search warrant for a house in the 100 block area of 5th Street, he said.

Five people were arrested in connection to an apparent stabbing in Grover Beach this weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, the Grover Beach Police Department responded to a report of assault near the intersection of Grand Avenue and 9th Street.
Just after 4 p.m., police found two victims of stab wounds and a third person with no injuries, according to a Police Department Facebook post.
The two victims were transported to local hospitals and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the post, five suspects were involved in the assault and fled the scene. All of them are now in custody, police said.
No other suspects remain and there is no threat to the community, police wrote in the post.
The case was still under investigation as of Sunday morning.

Suspect arrested in April shooting death of Grand Prairie man, police say
Grand Prairie police have arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed an 18-year-old at a gas station on April 27, officials said in a statement. The suspect, Keionn Winters, 18, was arrested May 27 with assistance from the U.S. Marshal's Service, according to the statement. Winters has been charged with capital murder; his bond has been set at $1 million. 'Allowing him to evade the death penalty would send a dangerous message that the lives of victims like Jose Luis are not valued,' Flores' sister wrote in the petition. In a statement at the time of the shooting, police said Flores may have been involved in 'high-risk activity' shortly before his death, but did not specify what the activity was.

A ‘free spirit': Mother remembers teen at center of metro-east investigation
Tiffany Zancha describes her 19-year-old son, Damien Zancha, as a 'free spirit' who was known for living up to the ideals of his namesake, St. Damien, the Catholic saint who ministered to outcasts and people with leprosy in Hawaii in the 1800s. 'He was a free spirit through and through,' Tiffany Zancha said about her son in a text Friday to the Belleville News-Democrat. 'If he wanted to do something — by God, he was going to do it, no matter what anyone said.' A funeral service is set for Saturday for Damien Zancha, who is the focus of an ongoing death investigation in connection with what Highland police report as 'an incident that occurred at Silver Lake' last month. Tiffany Zancha, who said her son died on May 22, said she wanted to 'hold off' on commenting on the police investigation at this time. Highland Police Chief Carole Widman has declined to release details regarding Damien Zancha's death or comment on whether anyone has been arrested. Rumors have been swirling on social media about the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death. 'Please be advised that we are aware of numerous social media posts regarding this incident,' the Highland Police Department said in a news release Thursday. 'This is an open and active investigation. Forensic analysis results in this case are still pending. No further details are being released at this time to preserve the integrity of the investigation.' 'From the start, Damien was always a funny, witty child that could light up any room,' she wrote. 'That child loved sports so much that his first word was 'ball.' He wanted to play any and every sport and so he did. From soccer, basketball and football to wrestling and track (and) field.' She said her son wanted to be 'included and accepted for who he was and not the picture that the world had painted of him. 'He loved his friends and family with a ferocity that all of us hope we can find in this lifetime,' she wrote. To sum up her memories of her son, Tiffany Zancha used an anglicized Gaelic phrase about someone's strong admiration for another: 'He was one of (a) kind. My macushla.' Parolee subdued with Taser, arrested following high-speed chase through Apple Valley
A parolee from Victorville led deputies on a high-speed chase through Apple Valley before being ultimately being subdued with a Taser and arrested on Friday afternoon, officials said. The incident began about 2:20 p.m., when deputies noticed a Pontiac Grand Prix maneuvering recklessly in the area of Joshua Road and Standing Rock Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. "Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued," according to a statement issued by the agency via social media. "During the pursuit, the vehicle traveled speeds of over 100 miles per hour in a residential area," the statement said. The fleeing car came to a halt at Ramona Avenue and Candlewood Road. A man at the wheel of the car and a woman riding as a passenger both ran. "When deputies attempted to detain [the driver], he became combative and was subsequently Tased," the statement said. "Deputies also apprehended the passenger, who was found to be in possession of what appeared to be methamphetamine. Driver Eduardo Mendoza Palacios, 25, of Victorville, was arrested on suspicion of recklessly evading police, as well as violation of parole stemming from a prior conviction, according to county booking records. He was being held without bail pending legal proceedings.
