Make-or-Break Year for Joey Porter Jr? | Steelers Morning Rush
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the 2025 season is make or break for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Porter has had a solid first two seasons as the Steelers' starting cornerback, and there's plenty of reason to be optimistic about the player that he's already become. But there's also nothing physically stopping him from being one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. With his rookie contract set to expire after the 2026 season, this year will be the last chance for Porter to put down tape that he will get paid on. So is this a make-or-break season for the Penn State product? Alan breaks it down. #steelers #herewego #nfl CONNECT WITH STEELERS NOW: Steelers Now: https://steelersnow.com SN on Twitter: https://twitter.com/pghsteelersnow SN on FB: https://facebook.com/steelersnow SN on Insta: https://www.instagram.com/pghsteelersnow/

Steelers reached out to fans upset that Donald Trump received jersey at a rally

Steelers reached out to fans upset that Donald Trump received jersey at a rally originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia Pittsburgh Steelers legend Rocky Bleier called an audible when he presented President Donald Trump with a Steelers jersey with the No. 47 during a rally in western Pennsylvania last week. Not everyone was thrilled about it. Several fans emailed the team expressing their anger at the gesture, which was not authorized directly by the team. The club responded to those who reached out, writing that the viewpoints of current and former players do not necessarily reflect the view of the organization. Trump was joined on stage at the rally to announce he was doubling tariffs on imported steel by 50% by quarterback Mason Rudolph and safety Myles Killebrew. Rudolph said he saw some of the blowback but did not take it personally. 'That's the nature of social media,' Rudolph said Tuesday after the Steelers wrapped up a voluntary team workout. 'That's the nature of why America is so great. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Speech is free. Par for the course.' Bleier, Rudolph and Killebrew aren't the only people with ties to the Steelers who have appeared with Trump. Former stars Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell met Trump when he was stumping in western Pennsylvania ahead of the 2024 election. Former Steelers owner and Hall of Famer Dan Rooney served as the U.S. ambassador to Ireland from 2009-12 during Barack Obama's first term.

Former Bengals WR: 'George Pickens was always late, Steelers had enough of it'

While the newest Cowboys WR George Pickens turned heads for all the wrong reasons a few days ago — it isn't anything new to Pittsburgh. Pickens' on- and off-field immaturity was a conversational topic throughout the 2024 season — and it ultimately led to his Steel City exit. Long-time Steelers rival and former Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh recently addressed on his podcast Up on Game, alongside co-hosts LaVar Arrington and Plaxico Burress — and it's safe to say he isn't a fan of the former disgruntled Steeler. Advertisement Pickens' antics — specifically his consistent tardiness — are what Houshmandzadeh believes pushed Steelers HC Mike Tomlin past his breaking point: "Mike Tomlin is a coach that his players that kind of told the line and may step over it. He gives them a little leeway, he lets them be them, and then after a while, he's like, 'I can't deal with it anymore.' George Pickens had stepped over and crossed the line a bit too many times. And I know people that play with the Steelers. He'd be late for the team plane that would be flying out to away games. Multiple times, he'd be late to get on the team bus. And they just — they had enough of it." Houshmandzadeh hit the nail right on the head. The former Bengals WR knows a thing or two about what disrespecting the Steelers looks like — after all, he may be best known in the Steel City for his less-than ideal treatment of the Terrible Towel. Steelers Rookie RB Kaleb Johnson Puts Doubters on Notice: ‘Last Time I Checked, I Hit 22 MPH'

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Kaleb Johnson sends a warning to those who are doubting his speed. PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers third-round rookie running back Kaleb Johnson fell down draft boards after running a 4.57-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He's heard the noise and has a warning for those who want to continue doubting his speed. Advertisement 'My catching ability, my route running, really my speed,' Johnson said of what goes unnoticed in his game. 'Last time I checked, I hit 22 miles per hour.' Johnson is a bigger back, standing at 6-foot-1, 224 pounds. But he has proven to be more than capable of breaking off big runs during his three years at Iowa. Last season, he reached 22 miles per hour per GPS measurements on field, which translates to a 40-yard dash in the 4.3s. Only a handful of NFL players have hit 22 mph, including new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, and nobody is questioning his speed. Johnson has the production to back it up, too. He had a breakout season in 2024, rushing for a career-high 1,537 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and 21 touchdowns. He also recorded 22 catches for 188 yards and two more scores. Kaleb Johnson, Iowa Athletics The only question now is if Johnson can translate his play to the next level. However, he seems to have a good chance of doing just that as a workout freak. Advertisement The 21-year-old is simply focused on getting better every day, and that includes picking the brains of the other veterans in the room. 'Getting better one percent every day, learning from some of the older people like Jaylen Warren and Kenny Gainwell,' Johnson said. 'I'm excited to keep working.'
