
Nano urea revolutionised agriculture sector slashing chemical fertiliser use: Mansukh Mandaviya
New Delhi: Nano urea, based on nanotechnology, has revolutionised the agriculture sector, and has slashed the use of chemical fertilisers that are harmful to soil and health, Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya said.
In a video shared by Modi Story, a handle on social media platform X, Union Minister Mandaviya narrated how a simple suggestion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by a young scientist paved the way for the development of nano urea in the country.
Mandaviya said that this led to the development of the world's first nano urea plant in India, in partnership with the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).
IFFCO launched the world's first 'Nano Liquid Urea' fertiliser in June 2021 and came up with Nano-DAP (di-ammonium phosphate) fertilisers in April 2023. Besides local farmers, the technologies are also being recognised internationally.
'I still remember how PM Narendra Modi Ji turned a simple suggestion into the revolutionary breakthrough of nano urea. Modi Ji doesn't just listen; he transforms ideas into impactful solutions. That's true leadership!' Mandaviya said, in response to the post on X.
He stated that nano urea, developed using nanotechnology and which contains plant nutrients in very small particle sizes provides a safer alternative to the chemical fertilisers that can contaminate soil.
'Today, a 100 ml Nano Urea bottle replaces a full sack of urea, slashing transport costs, protecting soil, and helping farmers,' said Mandaviya, who was earlier the Fertiliser Minister. Today, the country has the potential to develop 2-3 lakh bottles of nano urea, he added.
IFFCO's Nano Urea is widely recognised as a game-changer in fertilisation.
It improves nutrient use efficiency, enhances nitrogen absorption, and significantly reduces nitrate leaching. Additionally, it promotes soil health, requires less water, and has a lower carbon footprint than conventional urea.

‘Some have habit of creating doubts': Minister Bhupender Yadav rebuts Jairam Ramesh on Delhi Zoo privatization concerns
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav Saturday rebutted questions and privatization concerns raised by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh regarding the Delhi Zoo and an agreement proposed between the Centre-run establishment and Reliance-run Greens Zoological, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (GZRRC). In a post on social media platform X, Yadav said that the National Zoological Park (NZP), which is run by the Centre, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GZRRC, based in Gujarat's Jamnagar, in January 2021, and NZP has sought to revise the existing MoU. He said NZP has signed MoUs with different organisations working in wildlife management in the past as part of its modernisation drive and will continue to do so. Replying to Ramesh's post, Yadav said, 'Some people have made it a habit to create doubts in the mind of the public at every instance.' Ramesh had said on June 4 that while the government 'claims that this is not a management transfer, its past record does not inspire confidence. Is this the first step towards handing over the zoo to a private enterprise?' Yadav said that the 2021 MoU between NZP and GZRRC focused on the exchange of animals, capacity building, animal keepers, technical exchanges on the scientific management of animals, and sharing knowledge on conservation breeding and education. 'Keeping in line with the common objectives of captive wildlife management and for further broadening the collaboration as per current management requirements, NZP sought to revise the existing MoU with GZRRC. The proposed MoU aims to foster collaboration in wildlife conservation, rescue, rehabilitation, animal health, and welfare,' Yadav said. The key areas of cooperation, he added, include support for veterinary care, enclosure design, enrichment, staff training, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and potential animal exchanges. Yadav added in his post that GZRRC has developed state-of-the-art facilities and services in animal health and welfare, world-class zoo designing, rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals, and habitat enrichment. NZP, he said, being a 60-year-old institution, has gained substantial expertise in breeding and care of many endangered species and is aiming to modernise its facilities and services by adopting best practices in animal welfare in captivity, as well as enhanced visitor experience, on par with a world-class zoo. The Central Zoo Authority granted approval to GZRCC in February 2019, and an initial recognition was granted in August 2020. As per its latest available annual report, GZRRC is home to 10,360 animals of 345 species. Most animals housed at GZRRC are 'part of its initiative to rescue captive animals from impoverished conditions in zoos and facilities in the nature of zoos, to decongest them and provide welfare to animals that were housed under sub-optimal conditions,' the annual report states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited and inaugurated Vantara, the rescue facility at Jamnagar, on March 4 this year.

Andhra Agriculture Department ensures adequate supply of fertilisers for Kharif 2025
VIJAYAWADA: The Agriculture Department has rolled out a comprehensive strategy to ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply for the upcoming Kharif 2025 season, aiming to meet the needs of farmers across Andhra Pradesh. A total of 16.76 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers have been allocated, including 6.22 lakh tonnes of Urea, 2.60 lakh tonnes of DAP, 0.70 lakh tonnes of MOP, 0.94 lakh tonnes of SSP, and 6.30 lakh tonnes of complex fertilisers. As of April 1, 2025, the State held an opening stock of 7.14 lakh metric tonnes. Between April 1 and June 6, an additional 3.95 lakh metric tonnes were received, well above the 2.07 lakh tonnes required for that period. By June 6, the total stock reached 11.09 lakh metric tonnes. During this period, 2 lakh metric tonnes were sold, including 0.92 lakh tonnes of Urea and 0.62 lakh tonnes of complex fertilisers. The remaining 9.09 lakh metric tonnes are stored across cooperative societies, Rythu Seva Kendras (RSKs), Markfed godowns, and retail outlets, with another 2.01 lakh tonnes ready for immediate distribution. For June 2025, the Centre has allocated 2.35 lakh tonnes to Andhra Pradesh to maintain consistent availability. Distribution is being carried out through RSKs, cooperatives, and private dealers. To enhance efficiency, the State is also encouraging the use of Nano Urea and Nano DAP as substitutes for conventional fertilisers.
