Dhanush to star as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in biopic unveiled at Cannes 2025
India's 'Missile Man' is heading to the silver screen, with National Award-winning actor Dhanush set to portray former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in a sweeping biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India. The film was officially announced at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Directed by Adipurush filmmaker Om Raut and produced by Abhishek Agarwal (of The Kashmir Files) and Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, the film will also feature a screenplay is penned by Saiwyn Quadras, known for critically acclaimed biopics like Neerja and Maidaan.
The film will trace Dr. Kalam's extraordinary journey — from his humble roots in Rameswaram to his pioneering work in India's missile programs, and ultimately, his tenure as the 11th President of India. Inspired by his bestselling memoir Wings of Fire, the story aims to explore the scientist and statesman, but also the poet, teacher, and philosopher.
'In an era starved of true statesmen, Kalam stood above politics and pettiness,' said director Om Raut. 'To bring his story to the screen is both an artistic challenge and a cultural responsibility.'
Producer Abhishek Agarwal called the project 'an emotional moment,' adding, 'We are privileged to tell this story, and each of us is giving our best to bring to life the journey of our true Bharat Ratna Kalam ji.' Bhushan Kumar echoed the sentiment: 'This is more than just a film — it's a tribute to a man who showed us how dreams, dedication, and humility can shape a nation's future.'

How Elisabeth Moss Got Taylor Swift's ‘OK' to Use Look What You Made Me Do in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6
Elisabeth Moss shared how one of her longtime dreams came true when she got Taylor Swift's permission to feature one of her songs on The Handmaid's Tale. The Emmy-winning actress and executive producer revealed that Swift allowed the use of Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version) in Season 6, Episode 9 of the Hulu drama, which aired last month. Speaking about the moment, Moss said, 'Honestly, the feedback was her saying yes.' The song plays during a dramatic scene when June Osborne, played by Moss, leads the Handmaids in formation to rise against the Commanders. Moss shared that she reached out to Swift by writing a personal letter about how much her music meant to her and the show's cast. 'That was really, truly such an honor that she took the time to read, you know I wrote her a letter about what I felt like the song meant for the episode, and her music means to me and our cast so the fact that she said yes to me was all the feedback that I needed,' Moss said. Why Elisabeth Moss chose 'Look What You Made Me Do' for the episode After the episode aired, Moss told Billboard that using a Taylor Swift song on The Handmaid's Tale had been on her wish list for years. 'I've been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her, and I'm so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment,' she said in a statement. She also shared her personal connection to Swift's music, saying that Taylor had been a huge inspiration to her. Moss mentioned that she considered herself a Swiftie and believed she could speak for her co-star Yvonne Strahovski and the rest of the cast, who were also fans. She added that it was an honor to feature Swift's music in the final episodes of the show. Moss showed off her Swiftie status last year when she attended Swift's Eras Tour in Toronto with her Handmaid's Tale co-star Bradley Whitford and his wife Amy Landecker. They even posed for a photo with actress Mariska Hargitay at the concert.

Vishal Pandey On Being Trolled For Cannes 2025 Debut Look: ‘Bura Laga'
Last Updated: Vishal Pandey recently addressed the trolling following his Cannes debut, clarifying that his presence at the festival was for a film project, not just for fashion. Vishal Pandey, the Indian actor and social media sensation, made a stunning debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival with his international film Far Away From Home. While many celebrated his achievement, others criticised his debut, labelling it a mere red carpet appearance. Recently, Vishal swiftly responded to the backlash, highlighting his passion for storytelling. He emphasised that his presence at Cannes was about more than just fashion. In a candid conversation with Telly Talk, Vishal Pandey shared his thoughts on the online criticism, saying, 'Pareshaan nahi, grateful hu joh bhi opportunities aaye. Vahan pe log mujhe itna appreciate kar rahe the. Mujhe laga jab main apne desh aaunga, aur zyada hoga lekin mere desh mein mixed opinions mile. (I am not worried, I am grateful for whatever opportunities came my way. People there were appreciating me so much. I felt that when I came to my country, there would be more, but I got mixed opinions in my country)." He added, 'Tab bura laga ki main apne country ko represent kar raha tha vahan pe. Aisa nahi hai ki main apna fashion show karne gaya tha. Cannes Film Festival is about films, not fashion. ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman' trailer: Jennifer Lopez steals the spotlight in old Hollywood musical
Jennifer Lopez is stepping back into the spotlight with Kiss of the Spider Woman, a new musical drama directed by Bill Condon. The film, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, pays tribute to the golden age of Hollywood musicals while telling a story of love, politics, and escapism. Lopez stars as Ingrid Luna, a glamorous screen siren who lives on in the fantasies of two prisoners, Luis (Tonatiuh) and Valentin (Diego Luna), locked in an Argentinian cell. The movie adapts the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig and the Tony-winning stage musical by Terrence McNally, John Kander, and Fred Ebb. Set against the backdrop of political repression, the story pivots between dazzling song-and-dance sequences and the emotional life of the inmates. Luis, who clings to the world of film to survive, escapes through his devotion to Ingrid's character, while Valentin, a hardened revolutionary, begins to see the power of art as political fuel. 'I've been waiting for this moment my whole life,' Lopez said during a tearful Sundance Q&A. 'The reason I even wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV when West Side Story came on. I was just mesmerised.' The trailer teases some impressive choreography, charged duets, and a striking contrast between Ingrid's world and the prisoners' bleak reality. With Kiss of the Spider Woman, Condon appears to be riding the wave of the genre's revival following last year's blockbuster success of Wicked. Kiss of the Spider Woman is set to open in theaters October 10
