How a Dubai doctor on tea break comes to the rescue of a man suffering heart attack after collapsing near metro station
cardiac arrest
. Shervin Sasidharan, 36, had just stepped out of work and had just started to walk towards the metro station when the incident took place. His vision got blurred, his legs buckled, and he collapsed on the pavement.
Sasidharan was completely unconscious, and he was barely breathing, and he was probably moments away from death due to a cardiac arrest. Just then, Dr. Niraj Gupta, a specialist in interventional cardiology at NMC Royal Hospital in Dubai Investment Park (DIP), who was out on a quick tea break, rushed to help after he noticed a crowd around someone on the ground.
Gupta, who was across the street, said that the person (Sasidharan) had suffered a cardiac arrest and there was a need for quick action to save his life.
Recalling the incident, Dr. Gupta said, 'I saw people standing around someone on the ground. When I reached him, I realized he was sweating heavily and breathing just four times a minute,' Dr. Niraj recalled. 'It was a cardiac arrest, and we had to act quickly,' as quoted by The Khaleej Times.
As the hospital was nearby, Dr. Gupta wasted no time and called for an ambulance and began CPR. The patient was given two shocks before reaching the hospital, followed by a third one, which was delivered inside the emergency department.
Live Events
Emergency, ICU, and cardiology teams acted swiftly, and a full Code Blue was activated at the hospital. Sasidharan was given treatment on priority. According to Khaleej Times, he was diagnosed with a critical cardiac condition, acute inferior wall ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), and ventricular fibrillation (VF).
An angiography revealed a 100 percent blockage in the right coronary artery and a 90 percent blockage in the left. Four drug-eluting stents were placed to restore blood flow. He was able to walk again freely in just two days due to swift medical intervention.
Sasidharan thanks Dr Gupta after recovery
Following his recovery, Sasidharan said that he was not even aware that he was suffering from diabetes. He thanked Dr. Gupta for taking swift action, which saved his life.
'I didn't even know I had diabetes. I thought I was healthy. If the doctor hadn't been there at that moment, I wouldn't be alive today. I am just so thankful,' Sasidharan was quoted by The Khaleej Times as saying.
Sasidharan also said that the near-death experience has changed his life. 'I've cut down on junk food. I started walking every day, and I'm making health my top priority. I got a second chance; I won't take it for granted,' he said.
Dr Gupta reveals major reasons behind heart attacks in young adults
Dr. Niraj, who performed the entire procedure without pause, said poor lifestyle habits are one of the biggest contributors to heart attacks in young adults. 'People in their 30s shouldn't be experiencing this. But stress, poor diet, smoking, processed food, and high cholesterol are major risk factors,' he noted.
He requested residents to take regular checkups seriously and recommended basic heart screenings, including the Treadmill Test (TMT), Lipid profile, Blood sugar levels, and a CT scan of the heart.

Are you being ‘banksied'? The latest toxic dating term, which is crueller than ghosting
Have you felt like your partner is slowly detaching themself from you? Emotionally pulling away and withdrawing their feelings? But there are no fights, no arguments, just widening distance. The latest toxic dating term, Banksying, is crueller than ghosting.(Photo: Adobe Stock) Feels like a concept that has always been there, and multiple couples may have fallen victim to it. Well, now there is a word for it, and it is called 'Banksying', a toxic dating term which makes 'ghosting' seem much more polite. You do not break up with your partner, but rather put them through a toxic cycle of constant emotional withdrawal, and they are left wondering in the dark about what went wrong. But how did this term get here? The word takes shape after the England-based street artist, Banksy, 50, who creates his work, makes it known to the public, and then just vanishes without any announcement whatsoever. People have taken this habit of his to describe someone who emotionally backs away from a relationship before a 'break-up' conversation is officially in place. But why do people do this? Is it healthy or toxic? Dating coach Pratik Jain tells us, 'We are not taught communication (especially in intimate contexts) etiquette in our younger years. So we find our safe way to deal with tough situations. When one person is clear that they want to end a relationship, they know that direct communication will lead to a lot of instant conflicts, tensions and drama from the other person. So, to avoid the burden of all these, detaching is a safe way to go about it (at least for the person initiating it)." What does this lead to? You still engage in everything you used to do, but something feels off. There are fewer texts, less enthusiasm to make date plans, and maybe even shallower conversations than what used to be the case. And when you do inquire, the said person says things like, "It's fine" and sometimes even accuses you of "overthinking", etc. It is like they are there physically but gone emotionally. Dr Pavitra Shankar, Associate Consultant- Psychiatry at Aakash Healthcare, explains that this emotional withdrawal could be considered a form of passive-aggressive behaviour or emotional manipulation. 'It's a covert way of expressing anger, discomfort, or disconnection, forcing the partner to guess or interpret the silence. While it may not always be intentional, this behaviour creates emotional confusion and shifts the burden of resolution onto the other person,' she says. Even the psychological impact on the partner being 'Banksied' can be significant and long-lasting. They may experience confusion, self-doubt, and a deep sense of rejection because there is no clear closure or communication; the individual often ruminates, replaying moments to decipher what went wrong. 'This can erode self-esteem and trigger abandonment wounds, especially in individuals with insecure attachment styles. It can also induce anxiety in future relationships, as the person becomes hypervigilant about emotional shifts, fearing repeat withdrawal,' says Dr Shankar. So, what can you do to protect yourself? The first step would be to be on the lookout for the signs of being banksied. Pratik shares a few signs you should notice if you suspect something is off: The partner is not sharing things with you as much as before. They create trivial issues while blaming you or making you feel that you are not contributing to the relationship. They avoid any direct conversation that addresses the need to keep the relationship moving smoothly. Spending less and less time on intimate dinners, activities, etc. Ghosting vs Banksying While they both mean withdrawing from a relationship without actually breaking up, banksying is much more mean and toxic than ghosting. Ghosting is when someone stops communicating abrupt without any explanation or warning. The person performing the ghosting simply disappears, leaving the other individual confused, hurt, and rejected. However, banksying is different. This act refers to a slower form of ending a relationship where one partner slowly and subtly withdraws emotionally from the relationship without openly discussing their intentions to end it.

Aurobindo Pharma to manufacture, supply long acting HIV treatment drug
The Hyderabad-based drugmaker has been selected as one of the generic manufacturers under the expanded voluntary licensing agreement between the Medicines Patent Pool and ViiV Healthcare Press Trust of India Aurobindo Pharma on Tuesday said it will manufacture and supply the long-acting injectable HIV treatment cabotegravir across 133 countries. The Hyderabad-based drugmaker has been selected as one of the generic manufacturers under the expanded voluntary licensing agreement between the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) and ViiV Healthcare, the company said in a statement. The agreement allows Aurobindo to manufacture and supply the long-acting injectable HIV treatment across 133 countries, including several low and middle-income markets, it added. This update now includes long-acting cabotegravir (CAB LA) for HIV treatment, in addition to its earlier use for prevention only. The treatment offers an alternative to daily pills, allowing patients to receive just one injection every one or two months. "We are privileged to be part of the sub-license expansion from MPP and ViiV to develop, manufacture, and distribute generic CAB LA in select markets for the treatment of HIV-1, in addition to the voluntary licence for PrEP," Aurobindo Pharma Vice Chairman & Managing Director K Nithyananda Reddy said. This is a significant and timely step towards increasing access to advanced long-acting treatment in LMICs, he added. Aurobindo remains committed to leveraging its global supply capabilities to make this vital combination long-acting injection therapy widely available and affordable, he stated. The consideration by ViiV and MPP to include the private market in royalty-bearing countries is a critical step toward expanding access across both public and private sectors, it added. ViiV Healthcare, the global specialist HIV company majority owned by GSK, with Pfizer and Shionogi as shareholders, and the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP), have announced an update to their voluntary licensing agreement to include patents relating to its use in a long-acting regimen. The announcement follows updated guidance from the WHO recommending long-acting injectable cabotegravir + rilpivirine as an HIV treatment option. Existing generic licensees for prevention will be able to develop, manufacture and supply generic CAB LA, for use in combination with long-acting rilpivirine, subject to required regulatory approvals, to help enable access to the long-acting treatment in 133 countries worldwide. This includes all least-developed, low-income, lower middle-income, and Sub-Saharan African countries, as well as countries where ViiV does not have patent rights for cabotegravir.
