Half of Al-Massiah Pilgrims Arrive, Serving Social and Tourism Delegations from 21 Countries Including Egypt
Al-Massiah Pilgrims Services Group — the official and accredited provider for Hajj pilgrims from Egypt's Social Solidarity and Tourism sectors (both land route and five-star categories) — announced that over 53% of the total pilgrims contracted for the 1446H (2025) Hajj season have arrived in Makkah. The pilgrims entered through various air, land, and sea ports.
Bander bin Abdulrahman Damanhouri, Vice Chairman of Al-Massiah, confirmed that the reception of pilgrims, including the Egyptian contingent, follows a meticulously planned, phased process to ensure smooth arrivals, seamless accommodation allocation, and efficient transportation — all leading up to the full arrival of pilgrims before the Day of Tarwiyah.
He noted that the group's field service offices have welcomed pilgrims from Egypt, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Indonesia, Singapore, Benin, Madagascar, Tanzania, Malaysia, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Guinea, and Sudan, in a warm and authentically Saudi atmosphere. Upon arrival, pilgrims were greeted with Zamzam water, dates, traditional Saudi coffee, flowers, and commemorative gifts.
Damanhouri added that the services are being delivered in full coordination with Saudi government entities to provide high-quality support in transportation, housing, catering, and crowd management. This comes in line with the directives of the wise leadership and within the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which places serving the Guests of Allah as a top national priority.
Several Egyptian pilgrims and others from different nationalities expressed their deep appreciation for the high level of service and organization. They praised the heartfelt welcome and care they received from the moment they arrived, emphasizing their gratitude for the Kingdom's ongoing efforts in serving Islam and Muslims.

A delegation from Egypt is set to visit China next month following last week's visit of a Chinese investment delegation to Egypt A delegation from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) is scheduled to visit China next month to promote the industrial opportunities available in the SCZONE, Mustafa Ibrahim, vice chair of the China-Egypt Relations Committee at the Egyptian Businessmen's Association (EBA), told Al-Ahram Weekly. The visit is part of ongoing efforts to boost Chinese investments in Egypt. Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong Province in China, was also in Cairo last week with a delegation representing Chinese government agencies and Chinese companies interested in investing in the Egyptian market. The delegation also included representatives from Chinese companies already operating in Egypt. Some 2,800 Chinese companies currently operate in Egypt, with total investments exceeding $8 billion, according to the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). Ibrahim expects Chinese investments to reach $12 billion by the end of 2025. The Chinese delegation explored investment opportunities in various sectors, including electric vehicles. The visit aimed to support the Chinese government's Belt and Road Initiative and to study investment opportunities in the Egyptian market. China plans to move many of its factories abroad due to its commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 2026 and to avoid obstacles that could affect its exports to various countries, including members of the European Union, Ibrahim explained. China is also keen on redirecting its labour force towards high value-added industrial sectors such as the technology industry, in which it has outperformed many of its competitors, he added. Chinese companies are interested in investing across several sectors in Egypt, including textiles, ready-made garments, electrical appliances, the automotive industry, and natural gas exploration. Ibrahim said that China has moved into a new era, transitioning from product imitation to innovation, which has made countries like Germany eager to learn about the technologies used in Chinese robots, for example. China is seeking partners with whom it can strengthen its ties, and Egypt stands out with its large market and trade agreements with many other countries that enable access to nearly three billion consumers, Ibrahim said. He noted that over the past year and a half visits from Chinese delegations have taken a new and more serious turn, with provincial governors and leaders from the ruling party heading the delegations. Chinese investors are also planning to invest in new sectors, including tourism and the establishment of hotels and are currently studying investment opportunities in that field. Ibrahim said that cooperation between Egypt and China takes three main forms, with China exporting production inputs and finished products to Egypt, undertaking projects managed by Chinese companies for implementation in Egypt, and injecting direct investments into the Egyptian economy. He stressed the need for consistent laws and a stable economy to attract foreign investors, making the investment climate more appealing. Ahmed Mounir Ezzeddin, chair of the China-Egypt Relations Committee at the Egyptian Businessmen's Association (EBA), told the Weekly that Egypt's infrastructural development, both in terms of urban expansion and power networks, has opened the door for the establishment of large and medium-sized factories and has encouraged various investments, including those from China. China's only industrial city on the African continent is in Egypt in the shape of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone on the shores of the Red Sea and south of the Suez Canal. This started on an area of three million square metres and has now expanded to 10 million, reflecting Egypt's importance to Chinese investors. Ezzeddin said that Egypt possesses several factors that attract Chinese investments, such as the new investment law, an improved business environment and a competitive labour force, in addition to competitive electricity and fuel prices. Mecca: Saudi local authorities inaugurated an expanded, climate-controlled pedestrian walkway to prepare for the Hajj, which starts Wednesday, June 4th. This initiative aims to improve the comfort and accessibility of millions of pilgrims, including those with disabilities. Additionally, environmentalists commend the project for its innovative employment of recycled materials and dedication to sustainable infrastructure in a significant global religious hub. According to the Roads General Authority, the cooled roads initiative has grown 82% since its launch in 2023. More than 84,000 square metres of roads in Arafat have been resurfaced using heat-reflective and recycled materials that lower surface temperatures by approximately 12°C and reflect 30–40% more sunlight during morning hours. These features help reduce urban heat island effects and provide a cooler, more comfortable experience for pilgrims in peak summer conditions. A key aspect of the project is the use of rubberised asphalt made from recycled car tyres obtained from local landfills. Saudi Arabia discards more than 23 million used tyres each year. Transforming these tyres into road materials mitigates environmental risks, prevents the release of toxic leachates, and lowers emissions from both incineration and prolonged degradation. The coverage of flexible rubber surfaces has increased by 33%, now totaling 16,000 square metres. The latest section stretches from Namira Mosque to Arafat Train Station, offering a softer walking surface that enhances comfort and safety, particularly for elderly pilgrims. Additional features include a green corridor along a 1,200-metre stretch, with tree planting, air-cooling mist systems, and water fountains installed in collaboration with the local charities to improve air quality and heat relief. A 4,000-metre pedestrian path leading to Mount Arafat has also been completed. It uses the same cooled, low-vibration paving to support individuals with disabilities and their companions.

Luxor Governor Receives US Senator Tim Sheehy to Discuss Strengthening Cooperation
Taarek Refaat Abdel Motaleb Amara, Governor of Luxor received Senator Tim Sheehy, a member of the US Congress, as part of his visit to Egypt and the accompanying high-level delegation. The meeting witnessed an open dialogue between the two sides, addressing ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The Senator began his speech by expressing his happiness at being in Luxor for the second time after 22 years. He expressed his admiration for the positive changes taking place in the city and his amazement at ancient Egyptian civilization, emphasizing that Egypt is a country with a rich civilization dating back thousands of years. Sheehy added that Egypt is an important and ally in the Middle East region, and that it has a promising economic future over the next five years. He expressed his hope for strengthening American partnerships in Egypt and praised the country's ongoing comprehensive development efforts, particularly in infrastructure modernization and the renewable energy sector. On his part, the Governor of Luxor welcomed the US Senator and explained the governorate's economy, which is based on the cultural tourism sector, followed by agriculture and industry. He emphasized that tourist bookings have increased this year compared to last year, and that the booking rate for the upcoming tourist season is very promising and exceeds previous years, despite global events. The governor added that despite the hot June weather approaching, the continued growth of tourism in Luxor has not been affected. He attributed this to the stability and security Egypt enjoys thanks to the wisdom of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who assumed the presidency 10 years ago. He also praised US support for the country. The US Ambassador to Cairo attended the inauguration of the new drinking water station in the village of El-Hanady, east of Esna, south of Luxor. This station will serve approximately 10 villages by 2024. The station was funded by the US Agency for International Development.
