Irene Forte's London Townhouse Is a Masterclass in Earthy Minimalism

Vogue21-05-2025

Irene Forte, her husband Felix Winckler, and their two children moved into a townhouse on a quiet block in London's Kensington neighborhood just over a year ago. But she's felt connected to that address for far longer: 'The street I am on is the street where my primary school was, where I went from the age of three to 11,' she says. 'It feels a little like going back in time.'
The interiors are very much of the moment, however. Enlisting the help of designer Alice Gyllenkrok, Forte created a home that she describes as 'minimalist but still cozy.' Prints and patterns a few and far between, but modern marble furniture abounds. The walls, meanwhile, are covered in polished plaster.

Forte, who is the founder of the eponymous skincare line Irene Forte, always knew she wanted a palette of earth tones in her house—she uses the same tones for her branding, drawn to the sense of calm it provides. Her kitchen features a gentle eggshell, while her bedroom is swathed in a soothing flax yellow with ochre accents; a bathroom, meanwhile, boasts burnt umber. Natural accents are dotted throughout. (Many of them are courtesy of Irene's mother, who regularly drops off blooms and branches from her garden in Surrey.) 'It is quite a clean space,' says Forte. 'Lots of greens and earthy tones,' says Forte.

How to make your legs summer ready, according to a dermatologist

With the warmer weather comes blue skies, sunny days, vibrant blooms — and, of course, showing more skin. While summer style is all about light layers and bare skin, for those of us with dry, pasty, discolored or uneven skin (i.e. all of us?), shedding layers can bring a level of self-consciousness, if not downright panic. A first outing in shorts or a skirt can be especially daunting this time of year, as it means displaying a lot of leg. Even the most glamorous gams require at least a little extra TLC before the summer solstice arrives and, more likely, a full glow up. "Concerns that occur most commonly on legs are dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris [small, red bumps], ingrown hairs and varicose veins," says Dr. Dara Spearman, a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Radiant Dermatology Associates. "Generally, the best way to care for leg skin is by exfoliating to get rid of dead skin and prevent ingrown hairs, [and] also using hydrating body wash and moisturizer to keep the legs looking soft and shiny." Of course, long-term leg care is not simply a surface-level affair. "[For the best-looking legs] I recommend trying to be active daily — like walking more — plus staying hydrated and protecting the skin from environmental factors like the sun," Spearman explains. "For other concerns like varicose and spider veins, elevating your legs can help prevent them from forming, and laser treatments can diminish their appearance." Read on for Spearman's top solutions for all your most pressing leg-skin concerns, but don't be afraid to strut your stuff even if your pins are not camera-ready. My advice: Give yourself a close shave, slather on some inexpensive anti-bump cream, throw on a pretty dress and enjoy the ever-fleeting joy of a warm breeze on your bare, just-fine-as-it-is skin. No one likes the look of flaky, rough-textured knees and legs, but the good news is, with consistent use, quality products can treat these issues — and treat them fast. Though these formulas are gentle, as with any new topical treatment, consult with a doctor first if you have sensitive skin, particularly if your dermatological issues are severe. The bad news is: If you want to diminish the appearance of varicose or spider veins, you'll need to head to a doctor's office. Depending on the type and severity, these can be treated with surgery or, potentially, less invasive procedures like sclerotherapy and laser ablation. However, if you're prone to varicose and spider veins, Spearman says wearing compression socks and regularly elevating your legs can help prevent future outbreaks. If you want to disguise your leg veins, high-quality self tanners can aid in blurring the blue-purple hue and make the condition look less severe. The couple are proud parents of Lilly Gerrard, Lexie, Lourdes and youngest, son Lio. Gerrard announced his family was complete after he announced Lio's birth in 2017. He said: "Lio George Gerrard was born this morning at 4.55am. Both are doing great. Our family is complete." Lilly is the oldest of Gerrard's children, she celebrated her 21st birthday earlier this year. In a post uploaded to Instagram stories today, she shared six pictures of her and the former footballer. Lilly announced her pregnancy with partner Lee Byrne in January. Since announcing her pregnancy, the daughter of former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has shared updates throughout the pregnancy journey. When she first shared the news, she wrote on Instagram: "Our little secret. The best news, mini us is on the way." Lilly and her partner Lee Byrne have been dating for over two years, the two confirmed their relationship in 2022 with a series of pictures from time together in Ibiza, Spain. Last month, the 21-year-old told followers she was "almost there" as she posted two pictures of herself to her Instagram story, both showing off her baby bump. Since January, Lilly, who grew up in Formby, has received an abundance of love and support. Gerrard was one of the first to comment on his daughter's post when she shared the baby news. He commented: "We can't wait. Great news and congratulations we love you." Gerrard regularly shares family updates on social media and has always been vocal about the love he has for his children. Mum Alex, 42, took to the comments and said: "Can't wait." Gerrard's second eldest daughter, Lexie, 18, said: "Can't wait to be a auntie." Steven and Alex have been happily married since 2007 after they tied the knot in a luxurious ceremony at Cliveden House in Berkshire. Lexie Gerrard also shared a message for her dad on Father's Day. She shared a picture of Gerrard with his arm around her as she wrote: "Happy Father's Day dad. I love you so much. Thank you for everything." Another post from Lourdes Gerrard read "the best" alongside a red heart emoji. Away from his family life, Gerrard stepped aside from his duties as manager of Al-Ettifaq in January. Gerrard took to Instagram to reveal he had reached a mutual agreement to part company with the Saudi Pro League club after two years. He said: "After careful consideration, the club and I have mutually agreed to part ways. This was not an easy decision, but sometimes in football, things don't work out as planned. "The Saudi Pro League is a tough and competitive league, and I have nothing but respect for the players and staff who give their all every day. I want to sincerely thank everyone at the club for their support and hard work.

'I just want to be happy bout it. i love my kids loads even if life's a bit hectic,' she wrote. Despite her happiness, she's been overwhelmed with the demands of motherhood and life. 'I'm knackered n got sickness bad but still doin school runs n sortin all the meals n tantrums. nursery called again yday bout my 4yo n i just cried in the loo after,' she posted. Is one more in the best interests of the kids you have now? Are you married — does your husband/partner work — and are you independently financially secure with a job?' one person wrote. Another commented, 'Honestly, the thing that sticks out in your post is 'I know it's not ideal but it's happened now' — so this pregnancy was unplanned? Or more than one? That sounds deeply irresponsible to me.' Others offered the woman well wishes on her new baby. 'Congratulations! Babies bring their own joy. As long as you look after them and love them then ignore what anyone else says. It's your life and no one else's. If you don't want any more then ask your other half to get the snip, mine had it done and it's really not that bad at all apparently,' one wrote. 'As long as you/their dad are supporting them, I don't see a problem,' another said. In an update, the woman said she didn't expect to be 'grilled,' and she's 'not stupid i know it's a lot."
