Joshi criticises Congress govt. for prioritising internal conflicts over State's development
Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has lambasted the Congress-led government in the State for prioritizing internal conflicts over the development of the State.
Mr. Joshi pointed out that internal differences among Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other Cabinet Ministers have brought development of the State to a grinding halt.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Joshi said that though the Siddaramaiah-led government has completed two years in power, most of the welfare schemes never took off yet due to infighting within the State leadership.
The welfare schemes have failed to reach the intended beneficiaries, development works have been moving at a very slow pace and deteriorating law and order situation in the State has become a matter of concern, he added.
'Siddaramaiah shifting blame'
Holding the Siddaramaiah-led government morally responsible for the stampede during RCB's victory celebrations, Mr. Joshi slammed Mr. Siddaramaiah and his Cabinet colleagues over their 'disgraceful and desperate' attempt to shift blame for the stampede that claimed 11 lives.
Replying to a query, Mr Joshi clarified that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) sanctioned for the Kalyana Karnataka region will not be shifted to any other region. A special committee has been set up to decide on the proposed AIIMS establishment, he added.

She informed that a team of expert UK air accident investigators has arrived in India and is supporting the Indian-led investigation here on the ground. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, a dedicated government apparatus was activated within minutes to ensure swift and coordinated response efforts, said a statement from the CMO. Twelve teams are engaged in DNA sampling operations in shifts to carry out DNA matching procedures. In parallel, counselling support is being provided to the affected families. The Health Department has also deployed over 855 health personnel, including 100 healthcare workers at the trauma center, to support medical relief operations. This includes both regular Civil Hospital staff and supplementary manpower deployed specifically for this emergency response. As of now, a total of 250 blood samples have been collected from the relatives of passengers and local residents affected by the incident. Among these, 62 DNA matches have been established. Of the matched cases, 27 mortal remains have been handed over to the respective families. Additionally, 8 mortal remains, identified without the need for DNA testing, were handed over to the families day before yesterday. In total, 35 mortal remains have been handed over thus far. Only the samples of relatives of 3 passengers remain pending. These relatives are currently residing in the U.K. and are expected to arrive in the next 2-3 days to provide their samples. To coordinate the handover process of mortal remains and maintain continuous communication with the families of the deceased passengers, the district administration has appointed over 250 Nodal and Assistant Nodal Officers. Supervisory officers have also been designated to ensure that all procedures are conducted smoothly and in an organised manner. A dedicated team from Air India is present at the Civil Hospital around the clock. As more family members of the crash victims arrive, arrangements for air travel are being provided free of cost based on their individual needs. Earlier in the day, Air India expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of 241 passengers and crew members in the crash of Flight AI 171, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the families and loved ones of those affected, an official statement said. On Thursday, June 12, the Air India flight was en route to London from Ahmedabad when it crashed shortly after taking off from the airport and rammed into a doctors' hostel of BJ Medical College in Gujarat's Ahmedabad. Air India confirmed that it has successfully established contact with the next of kin of all passengers and crew. Over 400 family members have already arrived in Ahmedabad and are being supported by dedicated teams on the ground. 'Air India remains in mourning on the tragic loss of 241 passengers and crew members aboard flight AI171. Our hearts are with the families, loved ones, and communities affected by the accident,' the statement said. 'We have established contact with the next of kin/relatives of all passengers and crew members, expressing our condolences and helping them with the next steps. Over 400 family members have reached Ahmedabad and are being assisted by our teams on the ground,' it added. 'Every affected family in Ahmedabad has been assigned at least one caregiver by Air India. Air India is working closely with other Tata group companies to provide every possible assistance to the families and loved ones of those deceased, which remains our number one priority,' the airline said. "Indian students in Iran are calling for help": Congress leader Pawan Khera
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Sunday flagged the issue of over 1,500 Indian students being stranded in Iran's Tehran while slamming the Indian government for being 'largely unresponsive' amid the ongoing conflict between the Middle Eastern country and Israel. 'Indian students in Iran are calling for help. But the government remains largely unresponsive, even as missiles rain from the sky. With flights suspended, airspace over Tehran closed, and internet access disrupted, more than 1500 Indian students are left in a state of precarity and uncertainty - with no information about evacuation or safe zones,' Khera posted on X. Although the Indian embassy in Iran has issued an advisory for students, the Congress leader added that it remains 'unresponsive' for students who remain distressed. 'The Indian Embassy has issued a generic advisory urging the students to 'remain vigilant, avoid all unnecessary movements, follow the Embassy's Social Media accounts and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities'. Meanwhile, students remain trapped in distress as the Indian Embassy in Iran remains unresponsive: We are traumatised after last night's attack. There has been no response from the Indian Embassy. Our families are panicking,' Khera highlighted. He accused the Narendra Modi government of 'turning evacuations into propaganda opportunities' while stating that the government steps in late and does too little. 'This is not the first time Indian citizens have been left pleading for help during foreign crises. Whether it was Sudan, Ukraine, or now Iran, Modi's government has turned evacuations into propaganda opportunities - stepping in late, speaking too much, and doing too little, too slowly,' Khera said. He urged that the Ministry of External Affairs establish a coordinated evacuation mechanism before the window for safe exit of students narrows. 'The MEA must move beyond passive advisories and immediately establish a coordinated evacuation mechanism - complete with emergency response teams, real-time communication channels and logistic support - before the window for safe exit narrows any further,' he added. "Public safety shouldn't be afterthought": Congress leader Pawan Khera on Pune bridge collapse
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Pawar Khera expressed his condolences to the families of the people who were killed in the Pune bridge collapse incident on Sunday, saying that 'public safety should not be an afterthought.' Expressing sorrow over the people's deaths, the Congress leader said that the lives lost in this disaster were a reminder of the cost of negligence. 'The collapse of the footbridge over the Indrayani River in Pune's Maval tehsil is a heartbreaking tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, and our thoughts are with those injured or still missing. Each life lost in this avoidable disaster is a painful reminder of the cost of neglect. Public safety should not be an afterthought,' Khera posted on X. He went on to appreciate the efforts of the search and rescue teams invested in saving lives and rescuing those who have been trapped. 'In this moment of immense grief, we are deeply grateful for the brave and tireless efforts of the search and rescue teams. Grief must be met with accountability. But today, we stand first with those who are grieving, and honour the spirit of those still searching, and still hoping,' Khera added. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav-Patil informed that the rescue teams were working to save people, while the injured were rushed to the civil hospital for treatment. He said the bridge collapsed since many tourists flocked to the same area despite restrictions imposed. 'Till now, injured people have been admitted to the (Civil) hospital... The rescue operation is going on in full swing. NDRF and SDRF have come here for the same, along with volunteering organisations and locals... This bridge was restricted for people and two-wheelers, but since people were excited about monsoon tourism, many tourists flocked to the bridge, and it collapsed,' Patil told ANI. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who were killed in the Pune bridge collapse. The state government will also bear the cost of the medical treatment of the injured. 'CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge collapse incident on the Indrayani river near Talegaon in Pune district. Additionally, the state government will also bear the cost for the medical treatment of the injured,' CMO Maharashtra posted on X. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Devendra Fadnavis to inquire about the ongoing rescue operations after a bridge on the Indrayani river collapsed in Kundamala, which remains a popular tourist attraction in Talegaon Dabhade. The Prime Minister, currently in Cyprus, was briefed about the ongoing efforts to assist those affected. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi offered his 'heartfelt condolences' to the families of the deceased and hoped for the safety of those who still remain missing. 'The news of drowning of many people due to the collapse of the bridge on Indrayani river in Pune is extremely sad. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and hope for the safety of those who are still missing. There is an appeal to the administration that relief and rescue operations should be carried out with full promptness,' Gandhi posed on X. The NDRF is conducting search operations for those swept away, and all agencies are on high alert to expedite relief efforts. The injured are receiving medical care at nearby hospitals. (ANI)
